Troubled family
"Are you nearly done yet?" Enker sighed while watching Dr. Wily working on his latest robot. Or maybe robots. He really didn't know at this point, it seemed Dr. Wily had worked on them for weeks. Every now and then, the doctor would take a break and assist in keeping the castle in check, but the two never really talked. Unless it was about getting parts for the other robots.
When Enker first arrived back to the castle, he didn't expect his creator to be on the table again working out plans for more robots. He scared him pretty bad when he came up from behind, but he got a shoulder pat and a semi-warm welcome afterwards. Which was fine, he thought after the initial shock. But everything onwards was pretty boring, and Enker was growing sick of it.
"Patience Enker! He is almost done." Dr. Wily responded, putting his tools down. As he wiped his hands, the robot leaned in to take a good look. The robot was a bright red with what appeared to be a golden "V" sticking out of his helmet and on the chest.
"What is this? Who is this?" Enker quietly asked. Wily seemed to be glowing, his grin growing wider.
"Meet Quickman, DWN-012."
"And how many does that make now?"
"4. Just four more to go and the next phase in my plan will move forward." After hearing that sentence, Enker made a tiny sign of annoyance, which unfortunately caught Dr. Wily's attention. "Some you want to share Enker?"
"Doctor, you've been working on robots for several weeks nonstop. You look awful and you have oil all over you. Take a break." He almost raised his voice a bit to get Wily to even look at him.
"Soon, I have to get this-"
"If you don't take a break, I am going to smash your work table into pieces." Enker interrupted.
"You wouldn't, don't you think about it Enker!"
"Then, for the sake of both of us, take. A. Break!"
"FINE, fine! I'll do it, you happy now?!" Wily threw his hands into the air, the tools put down on the table. Feeling victorious, Enker snooped at the blueprints of the robots soon to be constructed next. As he looked through, he put away the ones that were already built. Metalman, Bubbleman, Airman, and Quickman. But the others schematics, Enker almost did a double take.
"Doctor Wily?"
"What is it now? I told you I'm resting!" Wily groaned on the chair. He leaned back as Enker showed the prints.
"What is up with some of your plans for these robots?"
"What are you talking about?" Enker proceeded to scoot the motionless robot to sit down.
"Let's see; DWN-013 Crashman. The plans are a combination of two robots, one for durability and strength, and one for destructive capability. But I noticed one particular flaw, his arms. Where are his hands? Why are they replaced with drills?"
Wily sighed before making irritated hand motions. "It's where his weapons are to be stored. His weapon is going to be a bomb that latches to any surface upon contact and blow up. They need to be somewhere where he can launch them easily."
"Alright, but what if he's NOT using bombs? Are you not going to give actual forelimbs? Otherwise, how do you expect him to lift things with great strength? Or even function at all? That's another thing, Bubbleman earlier seems to have a similar problem. You have permanently attached flippers on his feet. How do you expect him to walk on land?"
"He's not...don't you go judging how I m-" But Enker continued to list his opinions on the robots, not paying attention to Wily's growing irritation.
"Why in the world is there a robot completely made of WOOD? That seems like a flaw in of itself. Let's see; a robot with seemingly no mouth, no hands, feet flippers, shaped like a box, made of wood, and...why is he bald? It's almost like you're actively trying to piss them off as soon as they wake up." It was only when Enker looked up did he see how mad he made his creator but it didn't bother him. He wasn't going to hurt him anyway, not after the doctor explained how hard he worked on him.
"Just do me a favor and be quiet. I'm tired."
"Yes sir."
After going through all the prints, Enker left the doctor to do his own thing. He'll leave the doctor to do his own thing, but what he could possibly do besides walk around the castle for the millionth time?
Maybe having more people to talk to might not be bad.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Never had a thought died so quickly in Enker's head. He hated these new robots so much! A majority of them were either cocky, bitter, or plain insane. When each of the robots were woken up, it only took a few moments for Enker to voice his opinions about them. Though Wily would smile at his creations and give them shoulder pats, dismissing the bot's discomfort about them.
Metalman, the technically second robot Wily built. Enker automatically felt off around being the red robot. Aside from the saw blades sticking out of his shoulder blades, the robot had this cold, dark gaze. Metalman would either cast him a glare or do a huff while throwing more blades at his room's walls. At first, he had no idea what he did to make the robot so mad, but it soon was apparent he was jealous of him. What a stupid thing to get jealous about, it wasn't like Enker could do anything.
Airman. Such. A. Cocky. Piece. Of. Bolts. Enker didn't usually see the hulking blue bot around the castle, but when he did, the robot would talk how unbeatable he is due to having the power of wind. Being so confident with just your ability isn't going to get you anywhere.
Wish Dr. Wily had the power to mute his vocal box, Enker would think every time Air would go into a rant.
As he expected, the bald robot that be activated as Flashman was distressed about having a shiny head. It was amusing to see the blue and yellow robot looking at himself in the mirror every time. Though he could lose the constant whining. The only time Enker ever saw him confident was when he would put Quickman in his place.
"Hey spike head! Watch yourself!" A cocky voice said behind him. As Enker turned around to glare at the person responsible, someone swept his foot and made fall hard on his back. Gasping at the sudden shock, he could only glare at the figures of the robots he despised in this household. And behind both of them were three more shadows.
"HAH! What, did you lose your footing or could your brain not keep up with your body?" The red robot with the yellow v's on his body teased.
Speak of the devil.
"No, I have a idiot that can't keep his own business tripping me up." Enker growled while staggering to his feet. Airman, standing proudly behind Quickman, chuckled with pride.
"Idiots or not, you're just a robot that has no business being in Dr. Wily's castle to begin with."
"Yes I do, you morons!" Enker snapped back quickly.
"And what would it be? Huh? To get parts and groceries or something? Some purpose." Enker could almost feel the oil inside him start to boil from the two cocky idiots cornering him. He briefly glanced at the three robots watching. Crashman who held a blank expression, and Heatman holding Bubbleman and keeping him stable.
He didn't know much about Bubble and Heat, other than the two were almost either hanging out together or minding their own business. Because of Wily's cruel joke, Bubble hardly walked around the castle himself, instead just cooped up in a tub or down by the mountain pond. Heat would sometimes be eating some random coal he found, or hiding from everyone else. Now that was something the golden robot could agree on.
"And what exact purpose do you have Quick-prick that's SO MUCH BETTER?" Enker spat loud enough for everyone to hear. Quick flinched slightly at the name, before angrily whipping around to Crashman who had giggled at the joke.
"You would know if you stuck around in the meeting a couple days ago." Quick glared.
"If he wishes to know, he deserves to know." Airman stepped up to tower over Enker, making him seem so small. "We are programmed with the task of destroying Dr. Wily's enemy. The blue robot that intervened if his first takeover."
"And once we help Wily defeat his enemy and help take over the city, I'll be glad to rub it in your face! How's that for a purpose?" Quick smugly stated and the deflated Enker. He was so frustrated, his teeth felt like they could shatter from gritting them too hard. Before anything else was said, a soft but deep voice cut through the tense silence. A big brown robot resembling a tree stump walked toward them with a stern look, shaking in disapproval at his brothers.
"That is quite enough Quickman, Airman. Enker does not deserve to be treated like this. Whether you like it or not, he is our brother as much as the rest of us, and needs to be treated like it." The brown robot bellowed.
"Fine Woodman. Come on Air, let's go train. You coming Crash?" After hearing his name, Crash gave a reluctant look at Enker before joining his two brothers. As the golden robot sighed, he realized both Heat and Bubble disappeared, most likely to hide again. Wood shook his head before approaching Enker and kneeling.
"I'm so sorry for that Enker. They're not usually like this."
"You sure about that?" He replied with a side look, Wood clearing his throat.
"Okay, they're a little jumpy. I think they just want to go out for a little bit. I would also appreciate being near the woods and the little critters myself." Wood gave a smile. Though Enker didn't want to admit, Woodman was probably the only person in the castle besides Wily he can remotely stand. The big bot never tripped him, never insulted his size, none of that. The only sane one here, if only he could see him more in the castle. Maybe staying would be more bearable.
"If you say so. It wasn't necessary for you to step in, I could've easily kicked him in the shin." Enker grumbled.
"Then you could have been ambushed by the others. Oh how I wish they would stop coming to you to vent their frustrations." He sadly sighed, rubbing Enker's head and moving the helmet slightly. "If you want, you are free to come join outside. It's nice having company."
Enker saved his hand dismissively. "I'll decline your offer, any longer staying in the castle, and I'll go nuts. I think a walk around the city will be enough." Wood's eyes brightened a bit before handing a paper.
"That's right, there was a reason I stepped in! Dr. Wily wanted me to give you this, he needs a couple more parts in the city. I would go with you, but the master insisted we all stay here."
"I see. I'll be off then."
"Be careful Enker."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dr. Wily was reading a book in his chair, peacefully listening to the tv when Woodman walked in. "I gave Enker the list sir." He said quietly.
"That's good. Soon my plans will come to fruition!"
Something was on Wood's mind, which promptly made him stop Wily from going on another rant. "Master Wily?"
"What is it?"
"Is it possible that you create another robot master?" Wily whirled around to face Wood, who took a hesitant step backwards.
"What do you ask such a thing? You already have seven brothers, is that not enough for my plans? Is it?!"
"No, of course not. It's not about the plan sir, it's about Enker."
Hearing the robot's name made Wily do a double take. "Really? Why is it about Enker?"
"Master Wily, for many days since we were brought to life, I have noticed Enker often wandering the halls by himself. I've seen him grow restless, and I don't think it helps that he knows we have a purpose while he doesn't right now. Quick and Air confronted him about it earlier, and he seems more than distressed."
"Quick and Air bothered him again? I'll have to give them another lecture about it later!" Wily growled. Woodman regained his composure and continued.
"Please do something to fix it Dr. Wily. It doesn't feel fair to leave Enker out on this, just give him a purpose. Or even give a companion for him like the rest of us do for each other." Wood awaited for Dr. Wily's response. The doctor turned his head slightly and nodded, which was more than enough for Wood. The robot left the doctor in peace once more, wanting to go comfort the animals just outside from his brothers' ruckus.
