The Great Unveiling

Rock watched the crowds from his car seat, the little kids holding their parent's hand with glee. Barricades lined the front of the stage with reporters and cameramen ready for the event to start, small serving robots handed adults complimentary drinks, and the children were given small signed flags and plushies shaped like his superhero form Megaman. He wasn't aware that they were selling Megaman merchandize for the event, but he found it amusing that the little kids looked up to him. To the far right of the stage stood a towering object obscured by a obscenely large tarp. A soft grunt came from the tarp as his brothers Gutsman and Elecman peeked out.

"You should be all good little man." Guts said.

"The last circuits have been put together so Dr. Light should be good for the presentation. If we don't count potential reprogramming that is." Elecman added.

"Hah oh please! With the security doubled, nobody should be that dumb to ruin this event! Plus we have our own little hero right here! Isn't that right Megaman?" Guts patted Elec's shoulder enthusiastically. Rock rubbed his head in embarressment of being called his superhero name so close to pedestrians.

"I still don't see why Dr. Light wants me to present myself as Megaman. Doesn't that undermine the whole "superhero keeps their identity a secret" thing?" He asked.

"The mayor wants the public appeal to be huge for this event. He thinks you being here for the city's renaming will boost the morale in the crowd." Elec explained.

"I suppose that makes sense." Rock huffed.

"Hey," his electric brother started as kneeled to his level with calm eyes, "you will be fine. You can handle this for a couple of minutes, then you can join us in the crowd. It is as much of your event as it is the doctors."

A smile was exchanged between one another before Roll called for him beyond the curtains. As he was dragged backstage, Mayor Leo grabbed his hand aggressively. With his slicked back hair and formal looking attire, Rock almost mistook him for a celebrity as he stood their in shock. Only moments later was he able to snap out of it and return the shake.

"Thank you so much for joining us Megaman! I'm sure this will be an excellent event that shall be remembered for years!" The mayor said.

"Thank you for having me Mayor Leo. So what is it that you want me to do?" Rock asked. Leo rubbed his chin thoughtfully and snapped his fingers.

"It's quite simple! I give out my speech with your good old Doctor Light and once his introduction is finished, I will hype up your introduction. When your name is called you will hop towards the front of the stage and transform in front of the crowd. Everyone out there will love you for it!! Are you ready?" Leo pumped his fist in the air, as if to hype himself up rather than Rock. The noises from the crowd grew louder as the time began.

"Sure am sir! I'll be ready!" Rock matched his enthusiasm, which succeeded in making the mayor happy. The leader of the city said nothing else as he exited onto the main stage with confidence. Roll straightened a few strands of hair before directing her brother toward the top of the stage.

"I won't spoil it, but dad has a special gift for you after the show." She whispered. Rock didn't get to ask her what she meant before she climbed down and joined Doctor Light. The crowd erupted in delight as the mayor gave his signature greeting. Taking a deep breath, he waited for his name called throughout the presentation.

"GOOD MORNING EVERYONE! I certainly hope everyone is excited for what we have in store for today! I want to thank Thomas Light for helping bring this event together, and for the help his wonderful creations have done for our city! While the past few months haven't been the brightest for us, rest assured that from this moment on the brilliant scientist will help bring a new era to the public. But before I hand the mic over to Doctor Light, I'm sure most of us are aware of the robot hero that has saved us from the evils of Doctor Wily? Megaman?" As the name of the blue robot superhero was spoken, the crowd erupted into applause.

"I thought so! Megaman had done so much for this city and bringing back order. From rescuing Doctor Light's robot masters from the clutches of Doctor Wily," he paused as some children booed at the latter's name, "to defeating the robot masters that attacked many good citizens and companies. He has done so much for us that I think we should take a moment to not only congratulate this city's hero, but thank the doctor who brought such an icon into our world! Ladies and gentlemen, I give you MEGAMAN!!"

Rock figured that was his cue and jumped off the top of the stage. The crowd gasped at the sudden appearance before erupting into chaotic applause as he morphed into his blue armor and helmet. They chanted his hero name like a sports ring audience, his two brothers in the crowd nodding along. Roll was cheering for him as well while he could wave sheepishly. Only a couple of grumpy people watched from the background.

"Without Doctor Light creating our hero, none of us would be standing here without fear of robots hurting any of us. To thank him for saving us I, Mayor Leo, herby rename the city as "Mega City" to honor him!!" The mayor finished and handed the mic over to Dr. Light. The crowd was roaring in approval and the chants grew louder. Rock felt himself heat up from the enormous amounts of affection. His creator gave a soft gaze and allowed him to stand by his side. The crowd gradually quieted down when he coughed from the mic.

"When I had constructed the robot masters, I had intended to bring both robots and humans closer together by having them experience emotions similar to us. However, earlier this year I saw that even with the special abilities each robot master is built with, they are unable to deal with extreme situations. A lot has happened between the first construction of my robot masters and the present, which is why I have moved forward in the next stage for both humans and robots. Megaman may be the city's protector, but my newest project guarantees protection to the world!!" Dr. Light waved to Rock to head to the tarp. He grabbed the tip of the tarp and ran with a strong enough force that it flew off with ease.

"GAMMA may be large in size, his highly resistant armor is designed to keep out of reach of major catastrophes both manmade and natural. From earthquakes and wildfires to hurricanes and tsunamis, GAMMA will assist humanity in ways the robot masters are unable to." Dr. Light carried on. The giant robot stood over twenty stories with thick blue plates covering the entire chest and torso. Its hands, which were almost twice as large as the stage, had spikes down the knuckles to upper arm. The head had striking similarities to Rock's older brother Gutsman from the dome shaped forehead and cartoonishly big eyes to the square lower jaw. Rock overheard his creator discussing the plan to give off GAMMA to some officials but tuned it out afterward.

As the presentation ended, the crowd erupted in applause when Mayor Leo returned and gave his finishing speech. He scanned the crowd's faces with a smile, the children waving enthusiastically with their dolls in hand and grumpy people huffing away. Then he rested on a pair of green eyes, and his core hiccupped from the familiar pale hair. The golden robot stared at him with a dazed look and turned away.

"Are you okay Rock?" Roll asked when they walked down the stage.

"I thought I saw Enker." He said.

"Really?! Where is he?" She said excitedly. Their eyes scanned the entire crowd, but there was no trace of the pale haired robot master. Any sign of movement was just a excited child demanding for a Megaman plush or a teenager's head badly dyed.

"I thought he was there." Rock huffed in defeat.

"You never know. It could've been just a convincing human in the crowd." Roll said and tugged her brother's sleeve. Dozens of pedestrians thanked Rock for his efforts and saving the world, children and adults asking to sign their plushies. They weaved through the endless concession booths as their car came rapidly to view, the drive to the house a blissful silence. The car was put to park with Roll bursting through the door with a skip in her steps. Rock closed the door after his father, confused at their mysterious behavior.

"Stay right here my boy. Close your eyes until I say it's okay." Dr. Light said with a soft smile.

Rock heard both his father and sister's footsteps around the room, their excited whispers remaining out of earshot. There was a creak from the lab's door and a strange sound similar to panting before the panicked gasp from Roll made him force his eyes open. His breath hitched before he reached out in glee with the animal leaping into his arms. The red robot dog, which was almost the size of him, licked his face as Rock laughed. His sister giggled behind him while scratching the red dog's ears.

"Hey down boy! Down boy! He...is a boy right?" Rock asked, the dog still nudging his hand affectionately.

"Yes. I wanted to gift you a pet on your birthday but after what you have done it felt right to give it to you now. His name is Rush." Dr. Light laughed at the sight. After wiping the slop off Rock went to a sitting position and beckoned Rush forward. The animal sniffed him with every step, resting its head against his legs and tail swaying happily. They stared at each other in silence as if they engaged in a conversation only they knew before Rock reached down and hugged the dog's head.

"I love him Doctor Light." He murmured softly.

"Hey, I helped build him too." Roll hugged her brother and Rush jumped to lick her face. Doctor Light laughed at his daughter complaining of the saliva and Rock attempting to calm his dog. The latter's eyes shone bright with an innocence he hasn't seen in a while. However, the tender moment was interrupted by a phone buzzing in his coat pocket.

"Hello?" He said into the phone.

"Thomas, I have some great news! First of all, congratulations on the unveiling of GAMMA at the town. I can't believe you had enough space to fit that titan in your own lab! You got to tell me how you keep room in your workspace!" The excited chatter of Lucy Lavender went through as he hastily walked up the stairs.

"Thank you very much Lucy, but I was..." He spoke quietly into the phone and hoped his children weren't alarmed by the sudden retreat.

"Oh, did I interrupt something?" She asked.

"I wouldn't say that, but-" He started.

"Then I'll cut to the point! You'll be delighted to know that the robot masters you lent me have successfully continued operations on the asteroids, and even sent back one of the energy elements a few days ago!" Lucy was giggling in joy over the speaker. The news had not struck Doctor Light for a few seconds until he dropped the phone. His heart skipped and breaths felt heavy as he leaned against the wall to settle down. The space scientist on the phone repeated his name with increase concern until he answered back.

"That's great news Ms. Lavender. I'm happy to know they could be of help."

"According to Magnetman's reports, the other three are close to excavating the other energy elements I documented. I already sent the data of the energy element to the rest of the institute, and my boss had agreed to expand the project to try and excavate any potential new elements. This energy is like nothing we've ever documented before. Your robot masters are going to change the world Dr. Light." Lucy said.

"I know they will. Thank you Lucy. Will you keep me updated on their behavior?" He asked.

"Of course! Talk to you later!" Lucy said in a chipper tone before the phone beeped once. Rock's laughter echoed from behind, the red body of Rush sprinting past him holding a broom between the teeth. His two children were not far from the robotic hound, ordering him back and yanking the broom out of his mouth.

"Bad dog!" Roll huffed.

"That was great!" Rock grinned.

"I'm glad you enjoy your new companion Rock. I know I haven't been around for you much-" Dr. Light started.

"It's okay. You and Doctor Wily were busy constructing GAMMA after all. I'm just happy to have Rush now. Will you be building any more projects that will need me?" Rock said. His hand scratched the bottom of Rush's chin, making the dog's tail wag faster.

"And where is Doctor Wily anyway?" Roll chimed in. Doctor Light chuckled as he settled down onto the couch, the two robot children sitting on both sides.

"GAMMA was my largest project yet. I will be here for the two of you now, at least until I get any more requests and deals. As for Albert, he is getting some coffee and will return shortly. We have nothing to fear anymore." Light said.

From beyond the window and a few trees into the forest were red eyes with a body of purple and white armor. The tall figure of the Wily robot Ballade poked from the brush with his yellow V-shaped crest brushing against the clustered trees, listening to every detail possible without detection. He retreated back when he heard the name of his creator and with a slim smirk walked into the darkness, the sound of a teleporter activating filling the silence.

"You think too little of Doctor Wily old man." He chuckled.
