And Enemies Closer
Calling out his name made Enker freeze in place and his partners in crime waited further orders. Time and Oil were slowly recovering from the fight. The staff that had pinned Rock to Enker soon withdrew, giving him room to back out.
"How do you know me?" Enker asked suspiciously. Without a moment's hesitation, Rock took his helmet off.
"It's me. I know it's been months since we last saw each other."
"You are Megaman?" Enker stepped away, but the staff was still pointed toward Rock's neck. Upon entering his name, the two soldiers aimed their weapons, and the door to the power station slammed open. To Rock's shock, all eight of Wily's robots that he thought to have defeated weeks ago were alive and standing. Aside from Woodman and Metalman, all of them drew their weapons for a fight.
"You're all alive?!" He couldn't finish as all weapons fired. His eyes screwed shut to brace the painful impact. But it never came, and he looked to see Time hovering over him. The whole area was in a strange purple hue, but Rock recognized it as the same hue that emitted from one of the Chronos Institute's machines. The weapons were still moving toward them slowly, and the two casually walked aside.
"Time manipulation?" Rock asked. While the slowing was new, he recognized it as time manipulation as he had used it against the Wily bots once with Flashman's time stopper ability.
Timeman nodded before flicking his hand. The hue disappeared and the weapons exploded to dust as they came in contact. The purple robot next to Enker shielded him, and Airman blew the dust away. The Wily robots gasped realizing they missed their target and aimed weapons again.
"Stop! I'm not here to fight you!" Rock shouted.
"Yeah, like we're going to listen to you after you destroyed us! How did you find us?! How did you even know we were alive!?" Flashman spat.
"I don't know! Judge Peterson told me you were all dismantled weeks ago!"
Metalman perked up and ordered the fellow Wily bots to stop. Most of them showed surprise but lowered the weapons as told. The saw blade wielding robot walked within three feet to the two robots. "If you didn't know we were here, why did you come here?"
Rock swallowed and presented the note. "Wily contacted me and told me to come here. He said to give this. H-How are you even-"
Metalman grabbed the note forcefully, not once breaking eye contact. Rock felt himself tense up at meeting his eyes. His insides felt on fire like he was back at the factory of their battle, avoiding from being torn to shreds. The feeling of the oil- Metal's oil- on his hands as the metal blade shredded his enemy's side, the seconds he watched as he powered down presumably forever. But here he was standing with all of his brothers, still mad at him for destroying them despite knowing what they were doing.
Metal scanned the note several times, asked Enker to come, and the two read it together. Rock heard mutters between them before one of them snapped their finger. The purple and red robots from the fight gripped their shoulders and pushed them toward the shack, and all of the Wily bots stared him down with dark eyes.
"You've got some explaining to do." Metal said.
The door had closed and Rock was trapped by a circle of watchful robots. Enker, who he had hoped to say something to lighten the mood, was guarding the only exit. His breath shaking, he blocked off the idea of readying his blaster while keeping the possibility they could pounce on him any second. He gave enough details of the events that had occurred, from the discovery of a strange temple to the attacks and his brothers being taken, with him ending with the message from Dr. Wily. Despite the convincing argument he made, many of the Wily bots remained incredulous.
"You expect us to believe that Dr. Wily is being held captive by a genocidal alien robot?" Airman spoke up.
"I know it sounds crazy, but I am telling the truth! The world is in danger, people are suffering, and many robot masters are slowly being disabled by the field. I don't know how long it will be before we all fall as well." Rock argued.
"Why should we believe you? You destroyed us, sent our creator to jail and then forced to be protected by you and never contact us."
"That is not what happened! And if I was lying, then were are all the people in the dump? Have you heard anyone walking around? Are any of the machines making noise?" Rock said. He and Airman went back and forth before Metal stood.
"You did kill me before, but if you wanted to kill us again, you could've done it so easily. We are programmed to destroy you, but Wily gave us a command with this note. We need to save him, and if it means Megaman has to be on our side, then we have no choice." He said. Flashman and Quickman gawked at the order of their brother.
"So you will help me?" Rock asked, but Metal shook his head.
"No, you are helping us recover Dr. Wily. What you do next is none of our problem. But harm any of them, and you are mine." He said. Rock nodded along to keep the shaky alliance intact. With a shout, the Wily bots gathered around and headed towards the back. Allowing himself to calm down, Rock noticed large amounts of each Wily bot were welded with scrap metal. The only ones seemed to be complete were Enker and his two soldiers.
Time and Oil returned to his side, recovered but in a foul mood, and all three looked toward a small plane. "How did you-"
"We waited for Doctor Wily to give the order to retrieve him." Enker interrupted staring at Rock with thought.
"So Doctor Wily planned for all of you to live?" Rock asked.
"Of course he did. He planned all of it until the court's decision. I was sent to make sure the rest of the plan went smoothly. You were lucky the old man contacted you before coming to us." Without another word, Enker boarded the plane. Rock's arms twitched as he pulled all of the information together.
Wily planned for this to happen, he planned for the Wily bots to die. He knew that in order to stop them, he would have to kill them just so he could kill Megaman in a all out attack. All of this guilt on his shoulders for supposedly killing his brethren, and Wily did that just to toy with him? Irritation went through his circuits and thought of all the lies Wily may have made. If what Enker said was right, what was Wily going to do once he was freed of all charges? Was he going to contact the Wily bots and finish what he started? The more he thought about it, he wouldn't put it past the mad scientist to do that. To crush whatever lingering trust and hope he had developed with the man his dad saw as a friend.
As all the robot masters piled into the plane, Rock continued to think negatively of Wily. What if Timeman was right and Wily was doing something in the ruins on his own, something so important that he never told anyone? Was Dr. Wily purposely setting up this dangerous electromagnetic signal? However, he realized how he sounded and cleared his thoughts. If Wily wanted to spread the wave across the world for conquer, why did he look so scared and say someone was trying to catch him? Why would he potentially put his own robots that were waiting on his orders in danger of being fried by the signal?
There were a lot of questions that he wanted answers. He needed to find Doctor Wily and demand an explanation.
"Come on Megaman." Enker said.
"Fine." Rock muttered.
