21. Wish It Was A Dream

Dean opened his eyes to find the room filled with the bluish, purple light of the sunrise. He sat up and stretched. Finally Saturday. . .nothing to do. Well at least Cas was taking them to a carnival before he left. . .where he was going was still something Dean had to ask.

Oh and he had a horrible dream . . . his dad had found them and--

"Dad?" A small voice squeaked from the living room. There was footsteps then silence.

"Sam. . .I am so sorry. . ." He heard someone whisper.

Dean quickly pulled his glasses on and ran into the living room.

"Sam!" He called as he ran in.

He found Sam, wide eyed, staring off somewhere as John wrapped his arms around him in a hug.

Dean stood there in shock...he would've thought their father would try and hurt Sam again.

Sam's eyes slowly drifted towards Dean.

John pulled away and wiped his eyes.

"I'm sorry son..." he whispered. Sam nodded and ran behind Dean.

John stood up and looked at Dean.

"Morning Dean." He stated scruffily...he was already sounding like his usual self. He wondered how long it would take until he came home drunk.

"Morning..." Dean said through gritted teeth, he made sure Sam stayed behind him.

He left, taking Sam into his room and changed into some regular clothes before walking back, he had to be ready to leave at any moment.

John eyed him up and down, scoffed and walked away into the kitchen.

"You know you can stop wearing that get up and wear your normal clothes."

Dean looked down at himself and sighed. John was right. I mean they were found. There was no point in wearing these clothes anymore. He should just go back to his regular jackets, jeans, combat boots and plaid. And he should buy new contact lenses.

But it was just for one more day. . .he just needed Cas to see him like he always has. . .then he'd explain everything when he came back.

Sam stood there for a while before running back to his room. He could here John making eggs in the kitchen. Dean followed Sam and made sure John wasn't following them.

"Hey Sammy."

"Why is he here Dean?" Sam asked, looking up at him with those adorable but sad puppy eyes. Dean knelt down next to him and shook his head.

"I don't know how he found us Sammy. . .but I have a surprise for you. . .to get your mind off this." He said smiling. Sam tilted his head to the side in confusion.

"What surprise?" He asked.

Dean smiled widely and stood up.

"Cas is taking us to the carnival you've been dying to go to."

Sam's eyes widen as much as his smile-- which was pretty wide. He ran and wrapped his arms around Dean's waist in a hug.

"Thank you Dean!" He squealed. Dean smiled and ruffled his hair.

"We just have to wait until he picks us up later today. But shhh don't mention it to dad. I'll talk to him about it later."

Sam pulled away and nodded before walking over to the area of his room filled with legos.

Dean smiled and walked back into the kitchen to find John sitting at the table, eating his meal.

Dean tried avoiding a conversation with him as much as possible but unfortunately that's not what happened.

"So Dean."

"Y-yea?" Dean asked, walking back to him.

"Sit." He stated, taking a swing if beer that Dean had no idea where he got.

Dean sat down and waited for John to say something.

"How...how far did you think you'd get?" He asked, eating more of his meal.

"Far enough." Dean stated firmly.

John scoffed and took another swing of beer.

"Well not far enough huh? You left the state, that's for sure. But to think you thought this was far enough, well...at least you tried." He smirked.

Dean rolled his eyes and got up to leave. John just sat there laughing to himself.

Dean ran towards his room.

"You know you guys aren't getting rid of me this time!" He called after him.

Dean ran into his room and slammed the door shut. He laid on his bed and sighed.

He knew if he tried to leave again, it would be easier for John to find them...and when he did, he might do something to Sam...

It was still early...and John was in their house so there was no way Dean was going to sleep.

He heard footsteps, the front door opening, and shutting. It swung open again.

"I'm going out Dean! Don't try and escape again!" Of course he'd only he acknowledging Dean...he was trying to get back on little Sammy's good side. Play with his head while he was still young.

Once the door closed again Dean waited...he waited a while before screaming. He grabbed a pillow, hid his face and screamed.

When his phone started ringing he stopped screaming. He uncovered his face and reached for his phone.

"Hello?" He asked quietly.

"Hello? Dean? It's Cas."

"Yea I know..."

"Well I'm just calling you to tell you I'll be picking you guys up at around five."

Dean looked at his clock. It was barely 9:34 what was he gonna do until five?! He sighed and spoke again.

"Y-yea...okay. That's fine."

"...Dean?" He heard Cas ask. Almost in a whisper.

"Yes?"

"I...well um-- I-- never mind. Well I'll see you then."

"Yea...see you." Dean finished and hung up the phone.

"Dean?" A small voice asked from outside the door.

Dean quickly got up and opened the door for his younger brother.

"Who were you talking to on the phone?" Sam asked.

"Cas...why?"

Sam smiled and shook his head. He couldn't believe that he was a five year old and could see how much they loved each other. Dean deserved to be happy. And he would.
