Sixth Slice

Luffy swayed back and forth pulling the rope of the Oxford Bell as it rang. Marines tried to attack him countless times as swarms of them yelled with their battle cry, they were stopped in their path though. They fell, easily, to their enemies that were labeled as pirates. Jimbei, Rayleigh, and yourself protected Luffy as he threw down a bouquet of flowers and posed secretly for the nosey reporters to send the message 3D2Y across the seas.

The newspaper article captured the message splendidly, also capturing Luffy's trio of helpers as well. Ex-Warlord and first son of the sea Jimbei, Dark King Silvers Rayleigh, and a blurry image of a small and practically nameless pirate rookie named Commanding Leader (y/n). You always scoffed at the title they gave you as it made you seem, well as stated, commanding. The name itself made sense, that couldn't be argued with, but the title sounded like someone with a high and notable bounty unlike your own. Becoming wanted by the government was not your choice, to join Luffy's crew and become an actual pirate was.

Rayleigh has now decided to train Luffy on an uninhibited island no too terribly far off. The Kuja pirates were kind enough to transport them there. Along the way Jimbei took his leave, promising to meet Luffy on Fishman Island in two years. It seems everything would happen in two years, as that time flung around quite often.

"So Riley, that means he has to train on an island for two years?" You motioned towards Luffy who was goofing off.

"Yeah... and the name is Rayleigh." The man spoke casually as he stood on the decks of the female warrior's ship.

"I got it, Rye bread. I know he'll be okay but... I can't help but worry. Look at him he acts like a child with the determination of a king." You joked with Rayleigh, intentionally messing up his name that he soon caught on to after the second time.

"Last I recall you seem to be the same age as him."

"I guess so... And in two years I'll be his crew mate, so take care of my future captain, Right Lee." You felt the need to joke with him seeing as he was an easy going person that was also easy to get along with. You were comfortable with his presence much like with Luffy. They could both likely beat you to a pulp though.

"If I'm right lee, who is left lee?"

"Insulting my future captain I see." You pretended to feel hurt as Rayleigh chuckled at your actions. You waved him goodbye as you went to talk to Luffy before he left.

"Left Lee, are you excited to train with right lee?" You questioned Luffy while keeping the same joke from earlier.

"Uh huh. The others won't see it coming!" He giggled, flexing his muscles signifying he would grow stronger. He completely ignored the weird nicknames. "Oh so what was with the light? It was so awesome!" Luffy practically shouted with excitement. On the battlefield your devil fruit caused a blinding light to appear and unintentionally blinded the marines.

"Not until I join your crew, remember?"

"Aww you're no fun. A deals a deal though." Luffy pouted at first until he crossed his arms with a nod, agreeing that it's only right.

"Two years until we see each other..." You commented. Luffy agreed that you would be separated for the two years so you could train alone, after all you need to gain a better control with your powers. "So Luffy, do you think you could convince empress Hancock to let me stay on Amazon Lily for a while?" You specifically asked him seeing as the girl was clearly terminally ill with a lovesick infection over him.

"I guess so though she doesn't seem to like you for some reason."

"She's probably just jealous over something silly, I wouldn't worry about it." You ruffled Luffy's hair as he giggled.

You could practically feel the empress's glare from behind.

The ship eventually arrived at the island Rayleigh suggested would be perfect for him to train Luffy at. Personally you didn't want to say goodbye so soon.

"I'll make sure to bring you food from the isle of women every day." Hancock shyly and kindly suggested to Luffy. Either she knew one of the boy's weakness or she just somehow guessed he'd absolutely love the idea.

"What?! You sure about that?" Luffy was excited about the thought of food and her kindness. "Could you bring that Gorgan whatchamacallit? That was delicious!"

Hancock slowly back behind a rock as her face reddened and mumbled things about Luffy.

"Hancock, I can't have you spoiling him like this. While Luffy's training here, we're going to have a ban on woman." Rayleigh decided then and there that it was best that way. Luffy had to train hard, which meant hunting his own food.

You were a little disappointed but knew it was for the best. Hancock on the other hand didn't agree with it as much, clearly from how she argued and pinched Rayleigh's nose in a harsh manner.

She calmed down after hearing it was all for Luffy's sake.

"Ah Hammock!" Luffy called out to the empress who held her scarlet lovestruck face in her hands. "Could (y/n) stay on your island to train?"

"I-" She hesitated, looking back and forth at Luffy and yourself, deciding if she'd be rude to Luffy's friend or not. "I- guess she can but she'll have to work like a dog for her stay."

"Seems fair." Luffy agreed for you as you rubbed your arm, not yet prepared to depart. "Thanks!" He almost walked off as Rayleigh called him to go further into the island's forest. "Oh and (y/n), would you mind watching my hat?" He took it off and offered it to you with a smile.

"You'd trust me with that?" You questioned in surprise. You knew just how special his straw hat was to him.

"Yeah, we're friends." His smile seemed to grow even more.

"As much as I appreciate the honour, I'm going to have to decline it. You may trust me but I can't trust myself with protecting it." You smiled as he called you a friend. You grabbed Luffy's hat and placed it on his head in it's usual cozy spot.

"Shishishi I understand!" He smiled with a small laugh of joy.

As a departure you embraced him in a hug that he gladly accepted and returned. At that moment you could feel the chores and labor Hancock was going to put you through for that.

"In two years.." You mumbled over is shoulder.

     "Yep!"

You parted ways with the boy with a simple wave to meet again in two years time.
