Bones

Half Moon

I knaw my nails, wondering how the bounty hunters got Nightshade.

  He was always so careful.

His breathing was steady now, only his nostrils and chest moving.

  And a rare tail flick.

"Moon" Ratchet calls me, gesturing to his station.

I lay down, and he attempts to do a full body scan of me.

  I see Nightshade twitch.

I jump up as the scan was about halfway through, running to him.

  Was he okay?

I pet him, and he seems to calm down.

He nickers in pain, his eyes telling me he was hurting.

I pet him until he falls asleep again.

Ratchet looks a little mad at me.

I keep my head down, going back to get my body scanned.

After it was finished, I walk away.

But Ratchet stops me with a "I'm not finished."

I huff, going back to the gurney.

I sit down, and he takes out a pair of pliers.

  I wince.

I was still a little sensitive about people touching my wings.

But I know he wouldn't hurt me.

I cooperate, letting him tighten the casts.

"Ow!  That's attached to me, ya know!" I screech as he accidentally tugs one of my feathers.

"Stay still!" He grumbles, continuing to tighten the casts.

He lifts me into his hand, taking me to one of the smaller consoles in the back.

He puts me down on the keyboard, loading something on the screen.

He looks down at me. "Do you know what your bones are made of?"

"Calcium and marrow." I reply, feeling like I was being quizzed.

He nods, his expression saying I was wrong.

He pulls up a scan of my body, my bones healed and nothing out of place. The only thing was broken was my wings.

"How?" I ask out loud, my jaw open.

I know Starscream broke at least a couple of my bones.

"I was just about to ask you that."

  He pulls up another scan.

My ribs were cracked, some parts completely broken off.

My ankles were sprained, my tailbone shattered.

I had a crack in the side of my skull, my left forearm chipped.

My jaw dropped further.  How did I survive all that?

"This was last night, when we first found you." Ratchet said, my head shaking in disbelief.

My bones were fully healed. In less than 24 hours.

  How?

"I was always a fast healer, but never that fast." I look at Ratchet, and he nods.

He pulls up the scan he took last night.

He points to a miniscule line in between my bone, acting like it was holding it together.

"That line emits a magnetic field. I believe it attracts any broken bone fractures to thier proper place. Once there, it seals them in place."

"Magnetic field?  How does that work?" I was confused.

"Your bones are made of the same metal alloy the rest of us are made of."

  My mind freezes.

  How was that possible?

  "How do you know?"

He pulls up a third body scan, my bones highlighted and the rest of my body faded.

"This is a scan for metals." He says, watching my legs become weak.

  I wasn't angel.

  I wasn't human.

  What was I?

My legs shake. "Are you alright?" Ratchet asks, and I shake my head.

"Would you be alright...  Knowing that everything you thought you were was a lie?"

  He goes quiet.

"Your casts might be disrupting the magnetic field of that line."

  "And if they aren't?"

He sighs. "They'll have to stay on for at least a month, at the least."

I nod shakily as he sets me down on the floor.

  Everything I thought I was.

I thought I still had some human left in me.

I thought I was an angel.

  What was I?

I go over to Nightshade, feeling my power buzz in my hands.

I put my hands on his neck, feeling my power flow out of my hands and onto his body.

The burn on his side closes enough so it wouldn't get infected.

The fresh wounds on his face did the same.

  I was already exhausted.

  I hug him tight.

  "Come on." Bee said.

  Time for a drive.
