Scent

Nightshade

I smelled her as he put her on my back.

  It wasn't good. Very bad.

She smelled sour. Sick. Not the way my angel usually smells.

  She usually smells like flowers.

Once he climbed on and I knew he was safe, I charged.

But he said we needed to hurry.

  That's exactly what I did.

I ran faster and faster, nearly running out of breath.

But I kept focusing on her. She needed to get there. And fast.

I was about to take off, but we were already there.

He jumped off, carried her and bolted in.

I paced around, not knowing if my angel will be okay.

I didn't stop until he came out.

He had a clipboard and pouch.

  The pouch smelled like her.

I hung my head. I wanted to be with my angel.

I wanted her to hug me. Tell me she's okay.

When he said he would send me back to the bots, it made me feel better.

At least the kids would pay attention me.

  Arcee is nice, too.

He put the board on my back, but I barely felt it.

I walked in slowly, wanting my angel to be next to me, her hand on my neck.

I hoped she would be okay.  I wanted her to come back to me.

I wanted to see her again.

I keep the board balanced as I walk.

  I smelled Optimus.

His scent was more metalic than anyone elses. But it had something sweet at the very end of it, just in the background.

I trot through, and the portal closes.

Optimus was typing on the panel with letters flying by.  I wondered how he could read it.

  I snort, stomping my hooves.

He looks down at me, noticing the clipboard.

I slide it off my back by shaking, pick it up, and fly up to his eye level.

S wouldn't have sent me here with it unless he wanted one of them to see it.

He takes it with his fingers, and it grows and grows until he can easily read it.

I land where the humans usually hang out, sad that they weren't here yet.

Arcee walked by. She smelled different.  She usually smelled electric, full of energy.

But now it was dull and tense, like a rope with too much strain.

She must be worried about my angel. I had a feeling everyone was.

  She notices the clipboard.

"That about Moon?" She asks, eyes worried.

Optimus nodded, handing it to her.

It shrunk so it could fit in her hands.

She flipped through the pages, reading and re-reading.

  Then she looked at me.

Something was wrong. I could see it in her eyes.

She looked at the board again, and more text was coming up.

"Optimus." She said, giving him the clipboard again.

He took it, his eyes scanning the new text.

  He frowned.

  That wasn't good.

He handed it back to Arcee, going back to typing.

She kept looking at the board, leaning up against a ledge.

I glide down to the ledge, nuzzling her.

She pets my head softly, and I lay down, hoping any information would come my way.

But I can't read.  Numbers, colors, and symbols I can understand.  Just not text.

She glances at me. "She'll be okay."

I can tell she's fibbing. She's a little hesitant.  Unsure of the words coming from her mouth.

I get up, gliding down to the main floor.

  I smell someone.

My angel.  She shouldn't be here.

She smells off.  It is still a little sour.

But that doesn't stop me from rearing, flapping my wings, and stomping my hooves.

  They get the message quickly.

I charge down the hallway, going where her scent got stronger.

They were following me. I could hear the stomping of thier feet as I bolted down the hallway.

Her scent climbed into the sky.

I took to the air, following it.

  They were still behind me.

My angel's scent fades away the moment I reach the sparring room.

I smell the air and ground all around, trying to find her again.

  I find something.

Her sweatshirt was just laying in the middle of the sparring room floor.

The moment I pick it up, it dissolves into a plume of smoke.

I sneeze, losing her scent again.

I stomp my hooves and shake my mane in frustration. I huff and snort, nieghing in protest.

  I failed.

I could have found her.  I failed her.

Optimus looks at me with understanding.

Arcee looks at me with worry.

I snort loudly, angrily trotting back to the human area.

I plop down beside the couch, trying to hide my face beneath one of the pillows.

I didn't want to face the facts that I lost her scent.

I didnt want to see that I failed her.

I hear Arcee come near me, petting me.

  I ignore her.

  But I hear Bee.

  He must have the kids.

I lift my head, and both Miko and Raf hop out.

Hopefully they would make me feel better.

Arcee puts the clipboard on the console facedown, out of the humans reach.

Miko runs up the stairs, plopping down beside me, using my belly as a support.

I grab a pillow, put it on the floor, and put my chin on it.

Raf walks to Miko, sitting next to her.

  He leans against me, too.

  Miko looks suspicious.

  She's eyeing the clipboard.

I decide not to move until she does.

Raf is looking at her with worry in his eyes, and I can see him holding her back.

I keep my eye on her.

Then I hear an alert come up on screen.

Optimus types a reply, and a portal opens next to his feet not much later.

S steps through, then he nods to Optimus.

He signals someone on the other side of the portal, and she is carted in on a gurney.

  My angel.

Two angels are dressed in protective plastic clothes, hooking up her IV and giving Ratchet directions on how to give her the medicine.

They both go back through the portal, and S walks up the stairs to us.

"Hello, Miko." He says, putting his hands in his pockets.

"Hi." She replies, looking at him.

I stand up, gliding down to the main floor, sniffing her hair.

  She smelled completely sour.

The two angels dressed in plastic try to get me to back away, but I won't let them.

  She's mine to look after.

  She's my angel.

No one will get in my way.

I snort and neigh in protest, keeping my eyes locked on her.

Something gets injected into my neck, and I hear yelling.

The room goes blurry, spinning around me.

It all goes black as I hit the floor.
