Abhira entered inside the room and held her phone. Unable to contain her desire anymore, she gulped the lump that formed in her throat and dialled the number.
Armaan was sitting in his room, waiting for the clock to strick 12. His heart started to pound loudly in his ears with a mixture of nervousness and anticipation. He looked at his phone, his hands trembling as he waited. A sense of dread washed over him as he paced the length of his room. His eyes flickered at the clock and then back at his phone. The emotions swirling within him that threatened to take his breath away. His hands clenching and unclenching at his sides. His anxiety grew with each second that ticked by. He looked up sharply and glared at the clock.
Kya hai? Thoda dheere chal.
Armaan chided crossing his arms across his chest, glaring at the clock. He waited, pacing the length of his room glancing at the clock again and again. His heart felt too heavy for him to carry, his steps uncertain.
His phone rang jolting him out of his thoughts and he picked it up.
Hello.
A husky voice came from the other side. Abhira,s grip on her phone tightened a bit. Her heart skipped a beat and then her breath trembled out.
Hello Armaan.
Abhira said, her voice chocked as she felt tears welling up in her eyes.
Abhira.
Armaan said, his voice laced with disbelief as he held his phone tighter. His breath hitched.
Happy birthday Armaan.
Abhira wished, her voice soft yet filled with a mixture of love and warmth.
Armaan,s heart skipped a beat. A tear rolled down his cheek which he didn't wipe. They both were silent but they could hear each other,s beeathes through the phone. Unspoken words hung heavy in the air as their breathes synced in a rhythm of shared longing.
As they both stood in silence, a sense of tranquility enveloped them both. They both wanted to say a lot but words had abandoned them. Their hearts pounded with a mixture of longing and love in unison.
She knew he was there. She could hear their breathes running in sync.
Woh.....
Abhira fiddled with the edge of her dupatta, her fingers curling into the fabric nervously
Gathering some courage, she tightened her grip on the phone and spoke, her voice barely above a whisper
Happy birthday.
She wished again causing his heart to skip a beat.
Thank you.
He whispered, clutching the phone tighter, his voice barely above a whisper.
A silence followed, unspoken words hung heavy in the air and the moments of their shared history played in front of their eyes.
Main hoon na.
It's just noddles and water
Ji Rani sahiba
Humara adesh hai raja sahab.
The words rang in their ears on loop, the ticking of the clock was now a distant murmur in the background. Their breathes started to run slowly in sync. Their hearts beating in a rhythm of shared longing.
Gulping the lump that formed in his throat, Armaan spoke, his words, a soft whisper, the tremor in his voice betrayed the longing he felt for her
I miss you.
Abhira felt her breath hitch. The weight of her own longing suffocating her. She could feel the sense of abandonment he might have felt when his father told him that he hated him.
The call was cut.
After Armaan cut the call, a shaky laugh escaped him and he stepped backwards, a tear trailed down his cheek and he sunk down on the bed.
She remembered.
Armaan whispered, his voice barely above a whisper as his emotions chocked him up, a shaky smile gracing his lips.
On the other side. As the call was cut, Abhira,s hands trembled as she placed the phone back. The weight of her own longing started to suffocate her. The freedom she got to fulfill her dreams now felt like chains, binding her heart to an ache of longing. She felt herself chock up with sobs.
Abandonment was an ugly feeling and she hated how it washed over her in cold waves.
I miss you.
The whisper, laden with emotion rang in her ears. She could feel his longing, insecurity and vulnerability in his whisper and then, she felt her chest tighten. In that moment, she realized that maybe she had unknowingly abandoned him. In a bid to fulfill her dream, she had made him insecure. She knew that he'll never complain but still she felt an undefinable ache in her chest.
A sense of longing washed over her in cold waves. Sweat beads formed and rolled down her forehead but she couldn't feel anything except the sense of emptiness that clouded her heart.
Unable to bear the weight of her emotions, she sank down on the cold floor. Her cries loud and restless, bounced off the walls in a desperate attempt to fill the void that was left behind after the call ended.
I can't....
She trailed off crying, the ache in her heart intensified with each second that ticked by. Keeping a hand on her aching heart, she cried with all her might. The realization that she might have made him feel abandoned and insecure crashed over her like a tidal wave, leaving her gasping for breath in the sea of greif.
Covering her mouth with her palm, she started taking deep, trembling breathes in an attempt to compose herself and then keeping a hand on her heart, she whispered, her voice laced with sincarity
I'm sorry.
Then gulping the lump that formed in her throat, she wiped her tears, her head aching because of crying but she didn't cared and stood up, clutching a table for support.
She looked at the pale moon in the sky and spoke, her voice carrying a blend of love and devotion while her eyes shone with determination
I'm coming back Armaan. You were never a distraction for me.
Rani sahiba laut rahi hai, apne raja sahab ke paas.
She added, a smile playing on her face
