1 What provide the inspiration for your story?
This story actually started off as a fun idea at a summer camp. My cowriter, Izzy, and I thought it would be funny to write a story and completely twist our camp experience into something out of an adventure book. (For example, we never saw the kitchen ladies, for all we knew, they were robots or prisoners)
2 what is something you struggled constructing with your story?
Izzy and I actually only saw each other in person for that one week a few years ago. As a result, our communication hasn't been that great and we often ran into conflicting storylines. However, after a few phone calls, we got most of it sorted out (haha).
3 what did you enjoy writing most of your story?
My favorite part of the writing process was coming up with the dialogue. One of the main characters is basically the extreme version of me, where I can say/do whatever I want without real-life consequences (cussing people out, for example).
4 what's the overall response of your story from your readers?
I've had a few responsive readers that really brighten up my day. So far, the response seems positive (yay!) and that they're really invested in the characters. I'd love to hear more feedback on how to improve my writing, though!
5 is your story a stand alone novel or a piece of a series ?
The book was originally supposed to be a trilogy, but plans changed so now it's just two parts!
6 what would you like your readers to take away from your story?
I wanted my book to be just a fun escape from reality and to make people think about how we're all human, no matter what our backgrounds are.
7 what advice would you provide to fellow writers, when it comes to focusing on their own story?
I learned this the hard way, but definitely outline your whole story. Even if you don't have everything planned out, make sure you make a timeline with everything you want to happen and when.
8 does your main character share any similarities to yourself?
Stephanie is actually based off of my co-writer and made a little more extreme. Minhyuk, however, is me without the consequences of reality. It's fun to put myself in his shoes and think of every outrageous response I could give.
9 what is something about your story you believe would draw in new readers?
One of the main points of my story was having a very diverse set of characters without making them seem like they were from completely different planets. No matter your ethnicity, sexuality, etc., you're still human.
10 do you have any future projects?
After I finish writing the second book, I wanted to try a completely different genre, so I have a rough plan...but we'll see how that goes.
