interview 11 A chat with @AdriannaRaines3172
1. When do you begin your writing routine? (morning, afternoon, day, evening)
In most cases, it's the evening when I start my writing routine but it largely depends on how busy I am during the day/night.
2. What do you need for your writing routine? (laptop, notebook, ect)
I just need my laptop and headphones for my writing routine. Ambient playlists always help me get in the mood for writing!
3. What is your main focus, when you're working on a story?
I guess a story has numerous elements that need to be focused on for it to make sense as a whole. However, since I'm primarily a mystery writer, tying up all the loose ends and aligning my characters (and their character developments) with the plot twists they bring about in my book are my main priorities.
4. What is something important you've come to learn, since you've begun writing?
That not everyone will like what I write. Literature is a very subjective topic and what one finds good may not do the job for someone else. Aiming your work to be loved by every person is futile.
5. Do you believe having some sort of writing routine is helpful?
Absolutely, but it mostly boils down to all the tasks you have in a day. Following a strict writing routine can increase anxiety and depression (as it once did for me), so I'd suggest writers to follow a flexible writing routine that doesn't exhaust them.
6. What is a writing strength of yours?
Character development and dialogue, I'd say.
7. What's is a writing weakness of yours?
Writing about too many characters at once. And also working on multiple projects at a time. I'm terrible at multi-tasking.
8. Do you ever share your writing outside Wattpad? (other social media platforms, family, friends)
Yes, I love using social media like Instagram and Tiktok to promote my books!
9. What's a good piece of writing advice, when it comes to beginning a new story?
Having a definitive understanding of what your book is going to be about. I've discontinued so many projects just because I didn't have a good idea of what I wanted the story to be, nor did I have a proper outline at the time.
10. Who is an author you admire and why? (on or outside wattpad)
Casey Mcquiston! I love their writing and they seem like a really kind person. Also Tahereh Mafi is such a cool person from what I've seen of her, though I have yet to read the Shatter Me Series.
11. Do you believe an author interacting with their readers is important?
Definitely! Writers would be nothing without their readers and every writer should acknowledge that.
12 How do you believe a writer can build a fanbase?
Being genuine about your book and writing has to be the first step. You can definitely make/edit graphics and videos for promoting your book but what really captivates your readers is the way you talk about your book and how writing makes you feel.
