DISCLAIMER

Rebecca Turner

Although I hadn't seen Uncle Paul and Aunt Sally in forever, I was sleeping over at their house. All grandparents were in Florida for the winter, and both of my parents had a pressing engagement with work that they couldn't possibly miss as everyone was counting on them to go.

In reality, both parents insisted that they go, as their marriage was breaking down. What they haven't realized, though, is that they're going to the same exact thing in the same exact hotel on the same exact flight.

But anyway- back to about the sleepover at my relatives's place. (During the school break, thank goodness.)

So there I was, being shuttled to my relatives's place, when my parents started to make conversation with me to make themselves feel less guilty for abandoning me.

"So sweetie, we'll only be gone for a few days- the time will fly so fast!" That was my mom.

"Don't forget about your cousin Percy. He was on a trip with his friends last time we visited, so now you have someone close to your age to talk with."

Percy? Never met him.

"How old is he?" I asked.

"Your cousin is... seventeen, I believe."

"I thought he was sixteen!" My dad argued.

"Well I'm right and he's seventeen!"

I tuned out the squabble in favor of looking at the scenery.

After a while, we finally arrived. I convinced my dad to drag my suitcase so my mom could lead the way-she remembered the way. We went up until we reached the apartment.

As soon as I knocked the door opened-like Aunt Sally (who opened it) was waiting right next to the door.

"Hello? Rebecca! How have you been?" She asked with a smile.

"As fine as a twelve-year-old can be, Aunt Sally. You?"

"I'm wonderful. Have you seen Percy yet?" Aunt Sally answered her own question. "No, of course you haven't, you just came in."

My parents hugged and kissed me goodbye bye and left after thanking Aunt Sally for taking me in for a while.
Auntie dragged my suitcase to my temporary residence and then practically dragged me to another room with a boy and a girl in it.

"Hey Sally. Is this Rebecca?" The older girl questioned. The guy, who probably was my cousin Percy got pulled out of his daydream.

"Yeah, I'm Rebecca. Who're you?" I politely asked.

"I'm your older cousin Percy and this is my girlfriend Annabeth." The older boy said.

I waved and shot a smile.

A while later, after Uncle Paul came home and my cousin and his girlfriend fell asleep on the couch and I took a picture of them for Aunt Sally (she wanted another to go on her walls), I leaned back on the guest room bed and grinned.

This may not be so bad after all.
