Untitled Part 1
MEET DOCTOR ED
"Please allow me to introduce you
To our most amazing Doctor Ed,
The gentleman seated, I presume,
Right at the very front of the room."
My husband really was living proof
When patients are confined to bed
And are feeling desperately ill
That they can depend on Doctor Ed
To visit them and prescribe a pill,
To ease their concerns and show he cares
Without pushing them to write their will
But ensuring that they are aware
Of what to expect and how they stand
Re their state of health and how they fare,
Knowing Dr. Ed is in command.
No other doctor can be compared.
He is the best doctor in the land
For efficiency and prompt action,
Superb bedside manner, compassion.
For a little more than fifteen months,
Believe me; I could honestly vow
Doctor Ed deserved to take a bow.
Whenever my George was feeling low
His Doctor Ed would so quickly show.
Driving some nights in rain, hail or snow,
He'd be at the door, quick as a wink.
I scarcely had time to stop and think.
Sometimes I thought I could barely cope.
He would arrive with his stethoscope.
He'd quickly listen to George's chest,
Sometimes he would arrange a blood test.
He would bring his pad with triplicates,
Write prescriptions for the pharmacist.
When he needed to go out of town,
He sought out the best locum around.
Whenever I was in a real bind,
Quite close to going out of my mind,
He gently touched me on the shoulder,
(Though I must be twenty years older).
He assured me that George would be okay,
That tomorrow would be a better day.
He respected me like his mother,
Treated George like an older brother.
He kept me going and gave me strength
Regardless of the work or to what length.
I was so impressed by his dedication.
And George was fortunate to be his patient.
But Doctor Ed is one of a kind.
Only he could pacify my mind.
Doctor Ed did many a favor,
For many months was George's lifesaver.
Unfortunately, though, in the end
George was suffering, too ill to mend.
Doctor Ed tried his best not to let him die
But we all had no choice but to say, "Goodbye."

Dedicated to Doctor Ed.
A/N I hope as you read this bittersweet poem, if you have recently
had doubts about any individuals in the medical profession, your faith might
be, at least partially, restored. ~ Gail
