Chapter Thirteen
Screaming, Tamara rolled over in the bed to find Josh's sleeping face right next to hers. Scrambling upwards, Tamara screamed again, panicking.
“What the fuck are you doing in the bed?!” She yelled at Josh, who just frowned with his eyes closed and groaned slightly.
“The couch had a bung spring.”
“That doesn't mean you can climb into bed with me!” Tamara squealed, trying to put more space between them but Josh just sighed, rolling onto his back.
“This isn't 1874 Jacobs, women and men can share beds these days without becoming a social disgrace.”
Tamara rolled her eyes, wiggling around again and Josh groaned again, grabbing her arm and yanking her back down. “Just go back to sleep, we were having such a good time.”
Tamara yelped when Josh pulled harder then he needed to, and she ended up with her upper half splayed across his, while their legs tangled underneath the sheets. She bit her lip, noticing all too well that Josh was actually half naked, like her, and as his eyes opened, hers connected with his, and the tension in the room mounted until all she could do was stare.
She felt his hand touch her neck, underneath her veil of hair, and her skin tingled as his fingers trailed her throat, watching as his Adam's apple bobbed.
And then, she leaned down and kissed him just as he pulled her towards him.
His lips were soft yet hard, yielding yet in control, and soon Tamara felt him pick up the pace. Letting him trace her bottom lip with his tongue, Tamara opened her mouth a little wider and moaned slightly when his tongue met hers. Running a hand through his hair and carefully moving her leg so she was now straddling him, Tamara gasped as he rolled them over, settling snugly between her legs as Josh gripped her neck and kissed her harder then before.
Tamara knew she should stop him. She knew that if she didn't, then there'd be a lot more then kissing happening soon, and that was proven when she felt Josh grind slightly against her, making Tamara lose all thoughts in the process.
His hands moved down to her shirt as hers tugged at his hair, and Tamara rolled them again, with little effort so Josh was obviously quite okay with it, and started to kiss him with as much energy as before.
Then someone knocked on the door.
Breaking the kiss with a small gasp, Tamara bit her lip as Josh kissed her neck, mumbling “Ignore it,” against her tender skin.
Whoever was at the door, however, wasn't quite so patient, so the banging started up again, this time a voice with it.
“Tamara! Josh! If you two are showering together I win the bet! Open up!” Sasha shouted, and Tamara stilled, scrambling out of the bed a few seconds later. Running towards the door, she swung it open and Sasha was leaning against it, dressed in a black pencil skirt and a white blouse. She raised an eyebrow at Tamara, glancing up and down her body, then over at Josh, who lay casually in the bed. When he saw her watching him, he waved, a grin on his face.
“Did you two share last night?” Sasha asked excitedly, and Tamara rolled her eyes, shaking her head.
“No, I had to take the couch.” She said quickly, and watched as Sasha eyed the couch, then seemed to believe her answer .
“Oh, okay. But that's rude, Josh, making the girl take the couch. Did they not teach you manners in Britain?”
Josh's mouth dropped open, and he was about to argue when Tamara cut in.
“What are you doing here anyway?”
“Uh, Tam, it's seven o'clock. We start in half an hour.”
“Are you serious?” Tamara yelled, then rushed back into the room, pulling frantically at the clothes in her suitcase. “I haven't even found anything to wear!”
“We have to wear what I'm wearing, you loser.”
“Oh.”
“I'll meet you in the lobby soon. No more wild, steamy sex while I'm gone.” Sasha winked, and Josh chuckled as Tamara blushed.
When Sasha shut the door, it dawned on Tamara that she had just been heavily making out with Josh not five minutes ago. Shit.
“So,” Josh commented, getting out of bed and giving Tamara a nice view of his chest. “What now?”
“We get ready for this conference.” Tamara said in a 'duh' tone, and Josh's face flashed with some unknown emotion before he hid it behind a smirk.
“Alright, but you'll have no time for a shower.” Josh said as he walked into the bathroom and shut the door a little harder then necessary. Tamara frowned, wondering what his problem was.
Shrugging, she set to work changing into the outfit she'd dug from the bottom of her bag, pulling on some heels and hurriedly putting on some make up and fixing her hair. By the time Josh was out she only had a quick minute to brush her teeth before rushing down the corridor into the elevator with Josh beside her.
As the door's shut behind them, Tamara turned to Josh and sighed, opening her mouth to speak.
“So this is a little awkward.”
Josh raised an eyebrow, turning to look at her. “Really? Why?”
“Because you know why.”
“Is the elevator music not your type or something?”
“Josh,” Tamara deadpanned, and he sighed, tilting his head back and breathing through his nose in annoyance.
“Yes Tamara?”
Woah. She blinked at him, surprised at her actual name. He never called her that, ever.
It was either Jacobs, or love, or a mean name. Never her actual one that was on the birth certificate.
“About what happened this morning...”
“Which part?”
Was he really going to make her spell it out for him. Tamara narrowed her eyes at him, and continued.
“You know, the part where we kind of made out.” She rushed out the last bit, her cheeks heated up a little as Josh just stared at her with an expressionless face.
“What about it?”
“I think we should talk about it, you know?”
“I don't know, actually.”
“Josh! Now's not the time to joke around!” Tamara half yelled, and he turned to face her fully in the elevator, now all traces of humour gone.
“You wanna talk? Fine, talk.”
“Well, look I'm sorry okay? For kissing you like that. I mean, it was kind of out of character and totally not me and it was a mistake and just...I'm sorry, okay?” Tamara waited for his reply, but Josh just stared at her for a few more seconds, before the elevator doors dinged and he stepped out, glancing over his shoulder.
“Okay.”
As he walked away, Tamara felt...disappointed. She was expecting him to laugh it off, or say something similar, not just walk away. So maybe she'd lied a little, saying it was a mistake and such, but it kind of was. Kissing him, she meant. It wasn't that she didn't like it.
Because she did. A lot.
“Maybe I hurt his ego,” she muttered as she walked hurriedly behind Josh's figure a few metres ahead. He'd get over it, anyway, she was just saying what she thought he wanted to hear.
“Stupid males.” Tamara muttered to herself again, finally joining the group that was going to the conference in the lobby. Once they had everyone, they departed in cars, and Josh turned the radio up a little louder then talking height as soon as they got into his truck, which told Tamara he was either pissed or just really liked the song playing.
Considering it was I Will Survive, she didn't think it was the latter.
“Josh, are you okay?” Tamara asked as they pulled into the hospital where the conference was being held and turned off the car.
“Yeah, never better. Hey look, there's a vending machine inside.” He said, jumping out of the truck quickly and heading towards the entrance before Tamara even had her seat belt off.
“Aren't you going to lock it?” Tamara called after him, shutting her door.
Josh held the keys up over his shoulder and clicked the lock button without stopping or turning around. Okay, so he was acting weird.
“Loser,” Tamara commented in annoyance as she followed in Mr. Split Personality into the hospital entrance.
She stood and chatted casually with Sasha and a few of the others as they waited to go and start the conference, and Tamara couldn't help but glance over at Josh every couple of minutes to see Josh trying to pick something out of the vending machine.
“He's taking a really long time over there,” Sasha commented in passing, and Tamara tried to shove down the feeling that he was actually avoiding her.
Shaking her head slowly, she started walking towards the conference rooms, annoyed at his behaviour. It wasn't like she had done anything wrong. She'd kissed him, then apologized for it, just like she should have, so whatever was up his ass could wait.
She wasn't going to let it spoil her conference.
As she sat down next to Sasha, she looked up to see Josh walk in, a snickers wrapped in his hand.
So he had been avoiding her, she huffed.
Turning to the screen just in time to see the professor start to introduce himself and start up the slide show, Tamara tried to forget about the extremely annoying guy sitting a row behind her.
He could be an idiot all he liked, but Tamara wasn't about to ask what was wrong and be bluntly ignored again.
Then she felt a metallic wrapper hit her back, and Tamara bit her lip to stop herself from turning around and yelling at the bastard.
