Chapter 2: A visit to my mom's
For the past five minutes, all I have been doing is staring into the restroom mirror.
Deep in thought.
In the mirror, there lies the reflection of a woman in her early twenties. Her dark hair tied into a high pony tail and her piercing hazel eyes lined with black eye liner. Her cookie dark complexion matching well with the checkered green t-shirt and skinny jeans that clung to her body. Her timberlands thumping against the restroom floor as she tries to make a decision.
"Medha! How long are you going to take!"Vaishu whines as she walks into the airport restrooms to check on me.
Breaking away from my reverie of thoughts, I smile back at her, but we both know it looks more like a grimace.
Slowly collecting my thoughts,I step out with Vaishu and head towards the airport terminal, leading straight to the business class seating. A single LV bag slung around my shoulder, I wasn't planning to stay long.
"EEEEE, this is going to be so exciting, I have never been outside Mumbai and now we are going to Waranjai, all the way in south India!" Vaishu squeals, I couldn't help but chuckle.
Waranjai is a beautiful city, traditional at its core and modern with its infrastructure.I loved it. Unfortunately, I don't visit often because of the fear that I would bump into an unwanted someone, who always followed me around. My so called dad never left the chance to meet me when I come to Waranjai. I hated it.
Thats why I prefer calling mom over to Mumbai every time I missed her, but of course, she hated leaving her beautiful city.
We sit in our seats and get comfortable as the plane starts to take off, leaving behind the crazy city of Mumbai.

"Ms.Acharya?" a man clad in back says, the moment we land in the airport of Waranjai. I just nod as he leads us towards the car I have pre-booked.
Vaishu and I get in quickly and we give him directions to our destination.
Our home is a lavish villa in the centre of Waranjai, the community of Blossoms, very rich and exclusive.I have made the purchase just a year ago so my mom could finally abandon the rusty house in the ram-shack streets of Waranjai and I must say, it was a great purchase.
The car pulls into the front yard and immediately 3 figures run towards me. All of them- visibly excited.
Two women that looked like twins- both carrying dark curly hair with dark eyes- their skin a little darker than mine. They wore traditional sarees, one red and another blue. The one in the blue saree had a very dominant cheek bone, much like mine. The other didn't.
My mom and my aunt Sahi obviously.
Beside them was a man with a loose white shirt matching his blue pants- his brown hair slightly ruffled. My uncle Kalyan.
My cousins and my mom's younger brother Vivek uncle were all in Bangalore so these three were the only one that stayed back.My aunts children were also in Chennai and hardly come to visit- a little upsetting.
Vaishu immediately engulfs everyone in a hug- even though this was her first time meeting them in person- except my mom that it.
"Hi Sumya aunty, Kalyan uncle and Sahi aunty!" she says enthusiastically.
They all respond with the same excitement before leading us into the house.
As soon as we entered, in front of us stood a 2 foot tall statue of krishna- a hindu deity. Decorated with rose petals and tulips.
On the right we could see a modern set of blue sofas and a giant tv that was currently turned off. The house had state of the art designing and put my apartment house in Mumbai to shame.
"Medha! Why didn't you tell me your house was this pretty!" Vaishu says breathlessly as she skips around, heading upstairs towards some guests rooms.
"I dibs this room!" she says playfully before dropping her heavy suitcase on bed and running back downstairs.
"Why don't you girls get changed while I get some food ready- its almost lunch time!" my mom says before walking towards the kitchen. Sahi aunty and Kalyan uncle in pursuit.
It doesn't take long before I walk downstairs with Vaishu behind- stopping every second to admire every little thing.
She even stops to stare at an ant on the floor- stating that it was a Waranjai ant and not a Mumbai ant, thus making it special. I couldn't help but roll my eyes.
We eat some delicious friend rice with a side of chicken curry before Vaishu heads back upstairs to sleep.
Leaving me and my mom alone.
"How are you mom?" I ask curiously.
"Everything is fine Medha, don't worry about it!" she chuckles, easing the days tensions away.
"He- he died, he got a heart attack or something..." I say slowly.
She only nods.
"When is the ceremony?"
"Two days from now...are you coming?"
"I think it is best if I didn't"
"okay..."
"You should rest dear, the trip here must have been tiresome!"
I nod before I head upstairs.
"What's your problem with your dad anyway?" Vaishu asks as she settles down on a chair beside my bed.
"You aren't going to stop bugging me until I tell you right?" I say frustrated.
She shakes her head enthusiastically.
My mom who must have over heard comes into the room and sits on my bed.
"If you are so curiously dear, then I can tell you..."she says calmly. I look at her in shock.
"The past is the past sweetie." she says in finality, and this makes me smile.
This only makes Vaishu excited as she sits down to listen to the story.
"Well..."
