-months later-
Selena stepped into the house, gently closing the door behind her. She settled onto the couch, only to hear footsteps approaching. Eugenia made her way over and plopped down beside her. She flashed a smile at Selena, returned it with a soft grin.
"We've officially set the date for the wedding, haven't we?" She asked.
"Yes, we have! I can hardly contain my excitement for our big day," Eugenia replied.
Selena leaned in, pressing her lips to Eugenia's forehead, her smile widening as she savored the moment. After a brief pause, she pulled back to meet Eugenia's gaze, drawing her closer. Turning to face her, Selena beamed, and Eugenia mirrored her joy, a blush creeping onto her cheeks as she felt a gentle kiss on her cheek.
"Sweetheart," Selena said softly.
"Hmm?" Eugenia responded, curious.
"I love you more than anything," Selena confessed.
"And I love you too," Eugenia replied, her heart full.
With a bright smile, Selena rose from the couch and made her way to the bedroom, taking a seat on the bed. Eugenia quickly followed her.
As Selena fiddled with her shirt, she marveled at the fact that she was engaged for the second time. She hoped this marriage would stand the test of time, turned to Eugenia and smiled.
"Are you looking forward to being married again?" Selena asked.
"Absolutely, I am," Eugenia answered with a nod.
"I really missed being with you," Selena admitted.
"I missed you too," She said, her eyes sparkling with affection.
"I'm sorry for being an awful fiancé to you baby." She said.
"It's okay, babe. Let's not dwell on the past anymore." She whispered.
She nodded, a subtle yet meaningful gesture that conveyed her understanding and acceptance of the situation. Biting her lip, she cast her gaze downward, her eyes fixed on the floor as she contemplated her next move. Leaning in, she placed a tender kiss atop her head, the gentle brush of her lips a gesture of affection and reassurance. A wide smile then blossomed across her face, her features radiating a profound happiness.
"I won't..." She whispered, her voice soft yet resolute, hinting at a decision or promise she had made.
"I am so happy right now," She declared, the joy in her tone palpable.
Without hesitation, she leaned in and kissed her, their lips meeting in a passionate embrace.
She pulled her close, their bodies pressed together as she smiled against her lips. Eventually, she pulled away, her gaze locked with the other's as she drank in the moment. Wrapping her arms around her waist, she rested her head against her chest, the steady rhythm of their heartbeat a soothing melody.
"I am going to sleep," Selena announced, her eyelids growing heavy with the pull of slumber.
"I should go," Eugenia mumbled, reluctance evident in her voice.
Rising from the couch, she leaned down to place a gentle peck on her lips before heading into the bedroom, where she settled into the bed and drifted off to sleep. Leaving the house, she stepped into her car and drove away, the road unfolding before her as she made her way to her own apartment. Closing the door behind her, she walked to the bedroom, her steps slow and deliberate. Sitting down on the edge of the bed, she leaned her head back against the headboard, her fingers idly playing with one another as she let out a deep breath.
After a brief nap, she groaned and opened her eyes, rising from the bed and making her way to the living room. Rubbing the sleep from her eyes, she sank down onto the couch, taking a moment to collect herself. Reaching into her pocket, she retrieved a necklace, studying it intently for a few seconds before clasping it around her neck. Tilting her head back, she exhaled slowly, the weight of the necklace a comforting presence.
Shifting her position, she settled into the bed once more, her eyes drifting shut as she succumbed to the embrace of sleep, Eugenia's slumber lasting for several hours. Eugenia slowly rose from the bed, her body aching with fatigue. She let out a soft groan as she moved her hand to rub the stiffness in her neck, trying to work out the tension that had built up. Taking a deep, steadying breath, she made her way to the living room, changing out of her rumpled clothes into something more comfortable.
As she settled onto the couch, Eugenia found herself fidgeting with her fingers, the nervous energy palpable as she leaned her head back against the cushions. Her gaze was drawn to the old scrapbook sitting on the coffee table, the worn cover beckoning her to open it and revisit the cherished memories within. Lifting the lid, Eugenia's fingers traced over the familiar photos, each one a snapshot of the passionate yet tumultuous relationship she had shared with her former fiancé. The first image that caught her eye was one of Selena, her girlfriend at the time, sleeping peacefully.
Eugenia remembered waking up that morning and being struck by how serene and beautiful Selena looked in her slumber, unable to resist capturing the moment on camera without her knowledge. It was only later that she had shown Selena the photograph, a bittersweet reminder of the intimacy. As Eugenia gazed at the image, a pang of nostalgia and regret tugged at her heart. All the ups and downs of their romance playing out like a well-worn film in her mind.
-Flashback.-
As Selena slowly awoke, the familiar warmth and comfort of her bed enveloped her. Rubbing her eyes and stretching her arms, she gradually became aware of her surroundings. Turning her head, she was met with the sight of her beloved Eugenia, camera in hand, a mischievous glint in her eye. Selena couldn't help but playfully roll her eyes, a small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
"Hey, babe," She said groggily, her voice still thick with sleep.
Eugenia's face lit up at Selena's acknowledgment.
"Yes?" she replied eagerly, holding the camera a little higher. Selena's curiosity was piqued. "What do you have there?" She asked, her interest piqued. Eugenia beamed.
"It's for you, babe." Eugenia said.
Selena's heart swelled with affection, realizing that Eugenia had likely been capturing a candid moment of her peaceful slumber. Sitting up, Selena moved closer to Eugenia, who immediately wrapped a comforting arm around her shoulder. Eugenia leaned in and placed a gentle kiss on the side of Selena's head, before showing her the captured image.
"That looks awesome," Selena breathed, admiring the way the soft morning light played across her features.
"Thank you. I'm glad you like it," Eugenia said, her voice filled with warmth and adoration.
Selena beamed, her gratitude evident in her expression.
"You're welcome," She replied, her eyes shining with love.
The two women locked gazes, Selena's smile widening as she pressed her forehead against Eugenia's, her arm snaking around Eugenia's neck.
"I love you," Selena whispered, her heart overflowing with the depth of her feelings.
Eugenia's face lit up, her own happiness radiating outward.
"I'm so happy to call you mine," She murmured, pulling Selena even closer. Selena's heart swelled with joy at Eugenia's words.
"I'm so happy to call you my wife," She replied, her voice soft and tender.
Eugenia's smile grew even wider, and gently pulled Selena into a warm embrace. Selena rested her head on Eugenia's chest, sighing contentedly to drift back to sleep, the feeling of her arms around her lulling her into a slumber.
-End-
Eugenia took a deep, steadying breath as she stood up from her seat, the weight of the news she had just received settling heavily upon her. With a sense of purpose, she made her way to the living room, her footsteps echoing in the quiet house. Carefully, she placed the worn scrapbook down on the counter, its pages a tangible reminder of happier times. Retrieving her cell phone, Eugenia sank down onto the couch, her fingers trembling slightly as she dialed a familiar number.
The conversation that followed was tense and emotional, each word laced with concern and uncertainty. When it was over, Eugenia shoved the phone into her purse with a frustrated sigh, her mind racing as she rose from the couch. Steeling herself, Eugenia made her way to her car, the drive to the airport feeling like an eternity as she processed the gravity of the situation. The flight to Arizona only heightened her anxiety, but Eugenia knew she had to be there for her fiancée Selena.
Slipping out of the car at their destination, Eugenia hurried towards the rehabilitation center, her eyes scanning the unfamiliar faces until she recognized the person she had come to see. Biting her lip, Eugenia tapped her foot nervously, exhaling a shaky breath as she flashed Mandy a weak smile, one that was not returned. Mandy's somber expression filled her face.
"What's wrong?" Eugenia asked.
"Selena checked herself into this facility to seek treatment for her debilitating lupus." Mandy said.
