TWELVE. face to face.

Selena was engrossed in her book when she suddenly felt a pair of arms wrap around her. She leaned back, placing her book down, and found herself in the embrace of her boyfriend, David Henrie.

"Good morning, Selena," David whispered.

"Good morning," She replied with a smile.

"How did you sleep?" He asked, his voice filled with genuine concern.

"I slept well. And you?" She responded.

"Last night was amazing, especially after we slept together," He said, planting a soft kiss on her lips.

"It was great," She said, pulling away and making her way to the kitchen.

David followed, grabbing a bowl to fill with food. Selena leaned against the counter, watching him with adoration.

"Like what you see?" He asked smirking.

"I love it," Selena replied, her eyes sparkling.

As she stood there, a sense of happiness washed over her. She could envision a future with David, her former co-star from Wizards of Waverly Place.

They had been dating for two years, and despite her initial hesitation, he had been there for her through thick and thin. Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door.

Selena went to answer it and was greeted by her best friend, Taylor Swift. She smiled.

"Hey, girly," Taylor said, pulling her into a tight hug.

"I've missed you so much," Selena replied, returning the embrace.

"I've missed you too. I wanted to invite you to a party at my house tonight," Taylor said.

"I'm excited for tonight," Selena replied, a smile spreading across her face.

"I need to tell you something, though. I don't want you to get mad," Taylor said, her voice filled with caution.

"I promise I won't get upset," Selena assured her.

"Ed is going to the party with his girlfriend," Taylor revealed.

"Who is he with?" Selena asked, her curiosity piqued.

"He's dating you-know-who," Taylor said.

"I'm happy she's moving on," Selena said, her eyes lighting up at the mention of her ex.

"You're not upset that they're going to the party together?" Taylor asked, surprised.

"We've moved on since the divorce two years ago," Selena replied confidently.

"I'm glad you're not mad anymore," Taylor said, relieved.

Selena's ears perked up as she detected the sound of footsteps drawing near. With a quick glance, spotted David standing beside her, his arm casually draped around her shoulder.

"What are you talking about?" David asked, his voice filled with curiosity and warmth.

"The party at my place," Taylor responded, a hint of excitement in her voice.

"I would love to go," He replied, his eyes gleaming with anticipation.

"I can't wait to see you there," She said, leaving the apartment with a sense of eagerness.

As they stepped outside, David tenderly kissed Selena's forehead, gently rubbing her arm. A smile effortlessly spread across her face, unable to resist the affectionate gesture.

David playfully pulled her down onto his lap, guiding her towards the couch where they both settled down. Selena wrapped her arms around his neck, resting her head against his chest, feeling a sense of comfort and security.

However, as the evening approached, Selena couldn't help but feel a wave of nervousness wash over her. The thought of seeing Eugenia for the first time since their intense argument made her exhale deeply.

"Are you okay, babe?" David asked, his concern evident in his voice.

"It's going to be weird to see her since the last time we spoke wasn't good," She admitted, her voice tinged with apprehension.

"Try to act normal around her," He advised, planting a gentle kiss on her cheek.

"We weren't really friends before we dated," Selena confessed, her voice filled with uncertainty.

"I don't know what to tell you, Lena," David responded, his voice filled with empathy.

"I'll figure something out," She whispered, running a hand through her hair and letting out a sigh.

As Selena listened closely to David's heartbeat, she hoped that the evening would unfold smoothly between them. David, sensing her unease, rubbed her back, offering a comforting presence.

However, there was a question lingering in David's mind that he felt compelled to ask. Summoning the courage, he looked at her.

"Do you miss her?" He blurted out.

Selena's eyes widened in disbelief, caught completely off guard by the unexpected question. She stared at him, momentarily speechless.

"N-no, I don't miss her," She stuttered, her response filled with a mix of confusion and determination and headed to the bedroom without a word.

With a resounding thud, forcefully shut the door, her head finding solace against its sturdy frame. As the echoes of their heated argument still lingered in her mind, couldn't help but wonder if, after a mere two years, still longed for her ex-wife's presence.

She hadn't given it much thought since they hadn't made any attempts to reconnect. Perhaps, deep down, missed her a little, but she never reached out after starting a new relationship with David.

As she leaned against the door, a realization struck her - she had never received closure on their relationship. Running a hand through her hair, shook her head, feeling the weight of unresolved emotions.

Selena emerged from the bedroom, opening the door and stepping out. She closed it behind her and looked at him.

"I'm sorry." He said.

"No need to apologize. It's just a sensitive topic for me." She replied, her voice filled with vulnerability.

"You should find closure," He said.

"I'm not sure if I'm ready to see her yet." She admitted.

"I'll be in the bedroom whenever you're ready to discuss it." He said.

"I hope you're not angry," She murmured softly.

"I'm not mad. I know you need time to think." He responded.

"Thank you, babe," She whispered gratefully.

With a smile, he made his way to the bedroom, lying across the bed. He was contemplating how he could truly make her happy once again.

Selena rose from her seat and made her way to the kitchen to whip up a quick meal. As she plated her food and rinsed the dishes, gazed out the window, lost in thought.

Memories of her tour with DNCE and her relationship with her former co-star, David, flooded her mind.  She couldn't help but feel a twinge of sadness as she thought about the health break that caused the tour to be cancelled and the documentary that was put on hold because of her mental breakdown.

Despite her past, Selena knew she was over her ex-wife, or so she thought. A small smile crept onto her lips as she reminisced about the woman she had dated and married for nearly two years.

Her thoughts were interrupted by David's approach. She put on a fake smile.

"Do you still have feelings for her?" David asked, his eyes searching hers.

"No, I don't love my ex-wife," Selena lied, shaking her head.

"Don't lie to me. I saw the way your eyes lit up when Taylor mentioned it," He said.

"I don't miss her, okay? Please drop it," She pleaded.

"I won't be upset if you do," He insisted.

"I'm not answering because I don't miss Eugenia at all," Selena said, walking towards the door.

As she heard David's footsteps behind her, winced as he grabbed her wrist. She bit her lip.

"I didn't mean to make you upset. I'm sorry," He said, turning her around to face him.

"I know you didn't mean it," Selena replied.

"Are we good now?" David asked with a smug smirk on his face.

"We're not actually. I want you to apologize to Eugenia for what you said about her," Selena said, her voice firm.

"That's not happening," David replied, rolling his eyes.

"Then you're not getting any for a while," Selena warned.

"I will talk to her tonight," He said.

"I do miss her. She's better than you in every way," She whispered, leaving David speechless as she retreated to the bedroom.

She knew she shouldn't have said that, but she couldn't help but be upset by his comment. She got ready for the party.

(Sorry, I just love this picture of her, she's so cute.)

-Hours later.-

Selena and David entered the house hand in hand. David smiled at Selena, causing her to smile back.

He gestured towards the door where Eugenia was talking to Ed. She couldn't help but smile at the sight.

"I'll go apologize now," David said, heading towards them.

"Hey there, David," Ed greeted, giving him a brief hug.

David stepped back from him, and Ed held Eugenia's hand.

"Can I talk to you?" David asked Eugenia.

"Sure," She responded, going to a corner with him.

"I'm sorry," David whispered.

"For what exactly?" Eugenia asked, feeling nervous about talking to her ex's boyfriend.

"I said bad things about you after I started dating Selena. I am sorry," He confessed.

"I forgive you," she said.

"I hope you're happy with Ed, like Selena is happy with me," David said.

"I'm happy right now. I'll see you around," Eugenia said, spinning on her heels to walk away.

David walked back to his girlfriend. Selena wrapped her arm around his neck and smiled.

He kissed the top of her head, sipping his beer. Selena looked around, noticed her ex-boyfriend Niall looking at her.

She took David's hand and led him to a corner. She leaned against the wall, hoping Niall didn't spot her.

"What's wrong?" David asked, pulling her closer.

"I saw someone I know here. I'd rather not talk to him tonight," She explained.

"Let's stay away from that person then," He suggested, kissing her nose gently.

"David," She giggled at the kiss.

He chuckled and went to a couch, with Selena sitting on his lap. She rested her head on his shoulder, a smile spreading across her face.

Eugenia looked around the room and noticed Selena sitting on David's lap. Their eyes met, and Eugenia winked before returning to her conversation with Ed.

Selena smiled at David, who was engrossed in his cell phone. She gently tugged on his shirt, capturing his attention.

"Yeah babe?" He asked swiftly pocketing his phone.

"Let's dance," She suggested, a smile gracing her features.

He rose from his seat, taking her hand as they made their way to the dance floor. Selena wrapped her arms around his neck, swaying to the music playing in the background.

His hands rested on her waist, his gaze locked with her warm brown eyes. She pressed her forehead against his.

They moved in sync, their bodies swaying back and forth. David dipped her, eliciting a joyful laugh from Selena as he pulled her back up.

In that moment, he leaned in and kissed her, his hand gently caressing her face. Selena's hands found their place on his biceps, returning the affectionate gesture.

A smile played on his lips as they kissed, couldn't resist the urge to squeeze her ass. She gasped breaking the kiss to meet his gaze.

"I want you," He whispered seductively into her ear.

"I'm not in the mood for tonight," She murmured softly.

"I'm sorry that I said it," He apologized, twirling her around.

"It's fine," She reassured him, coming to a stop.

He tenderly brushed a strand of hair away from her face, unable to ignore her beauty. He knew how fortunate he felt to have her.

"I love you so much," David confessed, resting his forehead against hers.

"I love you too," She replied, closing her eyes.

Even after all these years, Selena still felt butterflies in her stomach. She was genuinely happy in that moment.

With a smile spreading across her lips, opened her eyes, meeting his gaze filled with awe. Deciding to take a break from dancing, took his hand and led him to the couch.

David intertwined their fingers, pressing a gentle kiss to her cheek. As he excused himself to join his friends, settled onto the couch.

As Selena scrolled through her social media on her cell phone, couldn't help but bite her lip in anticipation. She smiled.

She felt a gentle hand on her shoulder, causing her to look up in astonishment. And there, standing before her, was someone she never expected to see.

The sight of this person made Selena's heart skip a beat, as she locked eyes with them. It was a moment of disbelief, a mix of emotions swirling within her.

But before she could gather her thoughts, the person spoke up, breaking the silence. She sighed.

"Look, I wanted to say I am sorry for what I said last time we spoke," Eugenia confessed, her voice filled with sincerity.

"I-it's fine." Selena responded, stuttering slightly.

"Does he make you happy?" She asked the raven-black hair beauty, searching for the truth.

"Yeah, he does. But are you happy with him?" She replied.

"He's a great guy and sweet." Eugenia admitted.

"You didn't answer the question, Eugenia." Selena pointed out.

"He's not you, though." She said.

"It's been two long years," Selena said, her voice tinged with frustration.

"I know, I'm trying my best to move on," Eugenia replied, her tone filled with a hint of sadness.

"I really hope you find someone special, just like I did," She said, her voice filled with genuine concern.

"Well, I'm not exactly dating Ed, but he's sort of my boyfriend," Eugenia confessed.

"What do you mean?" She asked.

"Ed is my beard." She explained.

"Oh, I see. Well, I should probably get going," Selena said, trying to hide her surprise.

"I'll see you around. I hope you find happiness with David," she said, her voice filled with sincerity.

"I am happy with him. Have a good night, Eugenia," Selena said, as she walked away to join her boyfriend.

Hand in hand, David and Selena made their way back home. Their love evident as they headed towards their car.

As they arrived at the house, Selena made a beeline for the bathroom to change, while David settled into the living room to catch up on some TV. But as Selena emerged from the bathroom, couldn't resist the urge to sneak up on David.

She leaned against the doorway and snuck up behind him, pulling him close for a kiss. David was caught off guard returned the kiss with equal passion.

As they pulled away, couldn't resist turning off the TV and scooping Selena up in his arms. He smiled carrying her to the bedroom.

"Goodnight, my love," He whispered, holding her close.

"Goodnight, handsome," Selena replied, closing her eyes and drifting off to sleep.

She slept as her dreams took her back to a time before David, to a time when she was with Eugenia, her ex-wife. She longed to spend time with her once again.
