Selena glanced at the text, unsure of whether or not to reply. She decided to put her phone away and shook her head, trying to hold back her tears.
Suddenly, her manager Aleen tapped her shoulder, causing her to jump. She looked at her.
"Hey, are you okay?" Aleen asked.
"I'm so sorry, Aleen, but I need to do something," Selena said, standing up.
"You can't leave. You're about to go on," Aleen yelled.
Ignoring her, Selena ran out of the building without taking her car. She sprinted through the streets as if she were in a marathon, eventually stopping to catch her breath.
She arrived at the house and walked up to the porch, placing her hand on the doorknob and taking a deep breath. She turned the knob, stepped inside, and closed the door behind her.
Eugenia was sitting on the couch with her phone in hand. She bit her lip.
"Baby," Selena said, walking towards her.
"I got the pictures," Eugenia said, standing up and biting her lip.
"I know I messed up," Selena started, but Eugenia interrupted her by raising her hand to silence her.
"I'm going to sleep in the guest room tonight," Eugenia said, grabbing her things from their room.
Selena didn't have the energy to stop her. She put her head in her hands and began to cry as her phone rang, and answered it, wiping her eyes hastily.
"Hey, babe," He said.
"Hey, it's not a good time right now. I'll call you back in a bit," She replied.
"Okay, I love you," He said.
"Love you too," She whispered, ending the call and smiling.
She stood up from the couch and walked towards the guest room, where her wife was setting up her things. She leaned against the doorway, a small smile spreading across her face.
Eugenia rolled her eyes and glanced at her. Selena let out a soft sigh.
"What are you staring at?!" Eugenia snapped, making her flinch at her voice.
"I knew it was wrong. I couldn't help myself," She said and sat down on the bed.
"I can't believe you would do this to us, Selena! I trusted and loved you with all my heart, and this is how you repay me? Is this what I deserve after everything we've been through?!" Eugenia screamed, her heart pounding in her chest.
"Don't you think I know that now? I've finally realized that my actions were completely wrong!" Selena yelled back, her voice filled with regret.
"I'm sorry if I wasn't good enough for you!" Eugenia shouted, her voice filled with hurt.
"I would do anything to make things right between us," Selena admitted, her voice filled with sincerity.
"Tell me one thing," Eugenia said, running a hand through her hair and taking a deep breath.
"I promise I will tell you the truth," Selena said, standing up from the bed.
"How long has this affair been going on?" Eugenia asked, her voice trembling.
"Six months," Selena confessed, nervously playing with her ring and biting her lip.
Selena looked at Eugenia, unsure of what she was thinking. Eugenia frowned at her, her expression is filled with disappointment.
Eugenia shook her head, her heart heavy with pain. Selena rubbed the back of her neck anxiously, feeling the weight of her mistake.
"I can't believe you would do this to us, Selena. You've been lying to me for months," Eugenia said, her voice filled with a mix of anger and sadness.
"I never meant for any of this to happen. I am truly sorry for hurting you, Eugenia," Selena whispered, her voice filled with remorse.
"I can't even look at you right now. I am so furious with you," Eugenia said, storming out of the bedroom towards the front door.
"I'm in love with you!" Selena shouted, desperation evident in her voice.
Eugenia stopped in her tracks, her eyes filled with tears. She looked at Selena, seeing the remorse and regret in her eyes and shook her head.
She stormed out of the house, sliding into her car and slamming the door shut with a resounding thud. Collapsing into the driver's seat, took a deep breath, trying to steady her racing thoughts, before finally turning the key in the ignition and setting off.
As she aimlessly drove around town, her eyes wandered from one house to another, each triggering a flood of memories that threatened to overwhelm her. A single tear escaped her eye, and quickly brushed it away, frustrated by the pain that Selena's continuous betrayal had caused her, unable to bear the weight of her emotions any longer, pulled the car over, cutting the engine, and sought solace in a nearby store.
Walking through the aisles, absentmindedly scanned the shelves, her mind preoccupied with the turmoil in her heart. Lost in her thoughts, accidentally bumped into someone, causing them both to stumble.
An annoyed voice snapped at her, demanding she watch where she was going. Sheepishly apologized, her eyes meeting the stranger's, and in that moment, recognition washed over her.
"Eugenia?" The stranger, Courtney, exclaimed.
"Hey there." She replied.
They embraced in a warm hug, the familiarity of their connection bringing a sense of comfort. Courtney inquired about her well-being, and she couldn't help but confess the truth.
"I'm not okay right now," She admitted, her gaze falling to the wedding ring adorning her finger.
"Do you want to talk about it sometime?" She said.
"I would like that." She said.
For the next two hours, they poured their hearts out to each other, finding solace in their shared experiences. By the end of their conversation, they had made plans to hang out in the future, a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness.
Returning home, she entered the house, her eyes scanning for any sign of Selena. But she was nowhere to be found, made her way to the guest bedroom, sinking onto the bed with a heavy sigh.
Just as she settled in, her phone rang, jolting her from her thoughts. With a mix of anticipation and trepidation, she answered the call, ready to face whatever awaited her on the other end.
"Hello?" She said, her voice trembling with worry.
"Is this Eugenia Howard speaking?" The person on the other end of the line asked.
"Yes, who's this?" She replied, her heart pounding in her chest.
"I'm calling from River Hospital. Your wife, Selena Gomez Howard, had a stroke about an hour ago, and your listed as her emergency contact," The doctor's voice was calm, but the news hit Eugenia like a ton of bricks.
"I'm on my way," She said, her voice filled with determination.
Eugenia quickly hung up the phone, rushing to her car and speeding through the streets towards the hospital. Every second felt like an eternity as she anxiously navigated through traffic, her mind consumed with worry for her beloved wife.
Finally, she arrived at the hospital, her heart racing as she turned off the car and sprinted towards the entrance. Panic and fear coursed through her veins, urging her forward.
"My wife, Selena, is here! What room is she in?" She screamed desperately at the nurse behind the front desk.
"Ma'am, you need to calm down. Please, take a seat," The nurse tried to soothe her, but Eugenia's anxiety was overpowering.
"I want to see my wife right now! What room is she in?!" She shouted, her voice filled with desperation.
"You need to quiet down this instant. Please, take a seat and wait for someone to assist you," The nurse replied firmly, trying to maintain order in the chaotic situation.
But Eugenia couldn't bear to wait. Ignoring the nurse's orders, she frantically searched through several nearby rooms until she finally found Selena, lying in a hospital bed, connected to various IVs and peacefully asleep.
The sight of her wife in such a vulnerable state caused Eugenia to gasp, her heart breaking at the sight. Overwhelmed by emotions, the room seemed to spin around her, and before she knew it, darkness enveloped her as she collapsed, unconscious.
