THIRTEEN. unexpected.
As Selena rose from her slumber, she eagerly made her way to the kitchen to whip up a delicious breakfast. Once there, she settled into a cozy seat at the kitchen table, ready to savor her meal.
As she savored each bite of her meal, her mind wandered back to the unforgettable party from the previous night. Despite finding closure, a sense of emptiness lingered within her as she departed.
An overwhelming surge of anger coursed through her veins upon witnessing Eugenia with someone else, even though she herself had a boyfriend. Determined to escape the situation, she rose from her seat and made her way towards her car.
Driving to the park, she stepped out and locked her vehicle. As she strolled through the serene surroundings, she retrieved her phone from her pocket, eagerly anticipating a response.
"Hello?" Taylor's voice echoed through the phone.
"I need to talk to you urgently," She whispered, her voice filled with urgency.
"Why?" Taylor inquired.
"I lied to David. I still have feelings for her," Selena confessed, her voice trembling with vulnerability.
"But you've moved on, and she's trying to do the same," Taylor reasoned.
"I've come to realize that I want to be with her," Selena admitted, her voice filled with a mix of determination and uncertainty.
"Does David know about this?" Taylor questioned.
"He believes I'm over her," Selena replied.
"I'll be there soon," She said, ending the call abruptly.
"I'll see you in a little bit," She murmured, clicking the end button.
Putting her phone away, a smile graced her lips as she caught sight of the person she longed to speak with. She smiled.
"I'm going to end things with him soon," She declared.
"Don't do that. She's not worth it," Taylor cautioned.
"Feelings resurfaced at your party," Selena explained.
"Then talk to her," Taylor suggested.
"But I don't want to end things with David," Selena confessed.
"Aren't you over her?" Taylor questioned.
"I honestly don't know if I ever stopped loving her," Selena admitted, her voice filled with uncertainty.
"You need to figure this out," Taylor advised.
"Thank you," Selena expressed her gratitude.
"You're welcome. Talk to you later," Taylor said, rising from the bench.
"Goodbye," Selena said.
She walked to her house going to her driveway to the front porch. She smiled entering the house.
Selena closed the door and entered the living room where David sat on the couch. She smiled.
"Hello, beautiful," David greeted, standing up to give her a quick kiss on the lips.
"I went for a walk," Selena informed him.
"I'm taking you out for dinner tonight, babe," He announced.
"I'm excited," She replied, making her way towards the bedroom.
He smiled, eagerly anticipating his proposal later that night. She winked at him and closed the door behind her.
As Selena lay on the bed, a smile played on her lips as she reflected on Taylor's words from earlier that morning. However, her thoughts quickly shifted to Eugenia, who had looked absolutely stunning the previous night, it was a bitter pill to swallow, but Selena couldn't deny the truth.
Lost in her thoughts, Selena suddenly remembered her ring and began searching for it. As she held it in her hands, memories flooded her mind, causing tears to well up in her eyes.
She wiped them away, gazing at the ring before sliding it onto her finger. Adjusting it carefully, she couldn't help but feel a sense of comfort.
Leaving the bedroom, Selena made her way to the kitchen where David is preparing food. Just as she was about to greet him, his eyes fell upon the ring on her finger, and he abruptly stopped speaking, confusion filled her face.
"What's wrong?" She asked, her gaze fixed on him.
"Take that ring off now," He demanded, his tone firm.
"No, it's mine," Selena replied, instinctively hiding her hand behind her back.
David stepped closer, his grip tightening around her waist. She gasped, attempting to push him away, but his hold remained unyielding.
"I said do it," He repeated, his voice filled with authority.
"Please, just let me go first," Selena pleaded, her eyes filled with desperation.
Relenting, David released her wrist and leaned back against the counter. Selena quickly slipped the ring off her finger and discreetly tucked it into her back pocket.
As David's arms encircled her waist, pulling her close. Selena wrapped her arms around his neck and let out a quiet sigh.
In in that moment, she couldn't help but wonder if she was making the right choice with him. Pressing his lips against her cheek, David smiled not wanting to lose her.
"Maybe you could get rid of that ring," He suggested, his voice gentle.
"I promise I will," Selena assured him, trying to convince both him and herself.
With David retreating to the bathroom and closed the door behind him. Selena placed the ring in her purse before answering a call.
"Selena," She said.
"Hey," Selena replied, her voice filled with a mix of surprise and curiosity.
"Can we talk about our relationship face to face?" Eugenia asked, her words hanging in the air.
Selena's face contorted with confusion, unsure of what to make of this sudden request. She bit her lip.
"Umm, sure," She finally managed to say, her voice laced with uncertainty.
"I will see you at the park," Eugenia declared before abruptly ending the call, leaving Selena to process the whirlwind of emotions that now consumed her.
With her phone safely tucked away in her pocket, Selena made her way out of the house, her hands finding solace in her pockets. As she approached the park, her eyes scanned the surroundings until they landed on a familiar figure sitting on a bench.
It was her ex-wife, Eugenia. Eugenia stood up as Selena approached, pulling her into a tight embrace.
Selena hesitated for a moment before reciprocating, holding onto the embrace as if it were the only thing keeping her grounded. She pulled away.
"What's up?" Selena asked, her voice filled with a mix of curiosity and caution as they both took a seat on the bench.
"I can't stop thinking about you," Eugenia admitted, her voice filled with vulnerability.
Selena's heart raced, unsure of how to respond. She stood up abruptly, feeling overwhelmed by the flood of emotions that threatened to consume her.
"I can't do this right now," She managed to say, her voice trembling.
"Tell me it's over, and I will leave you alone for good," Eugenia pleaded, standing up and locking eyes with Selena.
"I don't want you," Selena whispered, her words barely audible as she brushed her lips against Eugenia's, a mixture of longing and uncertainty lingering in the air.
"I need you," Selena added, pulling away, her voice filled with a raw honesty that she couldn't deny.
"Do you want me?" Eugenia whispered into Selena's ear, a mischievous smirk playing on her lips.
"More than ever," Selena confessed, her hand intertwining with Eugenia's, their fingers fitting together like pieces of a puzzle.
"Can I ask you something?" She inquired, her voice filled with curiosity.
"Go ahead," Selena said.
"Did you really think I was seeing your friend Cara after our divorce?" She questioned, her tone tinged with disbelief.
"Yeah, I did," She admitted, her voice holding a hint of regret.
"Well, she's just a friend," She clarified, her words laced with reassurance.
"Now I know that. That's why I went out with Samuel to get back at you. I was upset seeing you two together," Selena confessed, her vulnerability shining through.
"Wait, really?" Eugenia asked, her surprise evident.
"Yeah, I used him to try to get you mad," She confessed, her voice tinged with mischief.
"You knew how much I didn't like him, so it did work," She admitted, her voice filled with a mix of guilt and satisfaction, biting her lip nervously.
"Oh, I do know. I'm pretty sure you punched him in the face, remember?" Selena teased, a playful tone in her voice.
"I definitely remember that. I really thought he was trying to break us up," She admitted, her voice filled with lingering doubt.
"Well, he wasn't," She assured, her voice holding a sense of finality.
"I'm sorry," She apologized, her voice filled with sincerity.
"It's fine," Selena said, her tone forgiving.
"Yeah," Eugenia replied, her voice filled with a mix of relief and regret.
"I'm sorry for yelling at you that night. You didn't deserve it," She added, her voice filled with remorse.
"I forgive you," Selena said, giving her hand a gentle squeeze.
Eugenia lifted her hand and pressed a tender kiss to it. Selena's cheeks flushed, and she looked down at the floor, trying to hide her blush.
Eugenia couldn't help but feel the desire to kiss her, but she resisted the urge. Selena wrapped her arm around her waist, drawing her closer.
"Sorry, I just remembered something I need to take care of," Eugenia said, looking at her with a mischievous smile.
"What is it?" Selena asked.
Without hesitation, Eugenia leaned in and pressed her lips against Selena's, gently cupping her face. Selena's heart skipped a beat as she eagerly returned the kiss.
Their connection intensified as Eugenia pulled her closer, their lips locked in a passionate embrace. Lost in the moment, they didn't notice the distant sound of cameras flashing, capturing their stolen affection.
Finally, Eugenia pulled away, but not before giving Selena's lips a sweet peck. Selena couldn't help but smile, her heart fluttering as she held Eugenia's hand tightly in hers.
Eugenia's hand squeezed tightly as she looked around. Her lips spread into a wide smile across her face.
"I've missed doing that," She said, her voice filled with nostalgia.
"I can't believe it's been three years since we last kissed," Selena stated, her eyes locked on Eugenia's.
"You look amazing," She whispered, her words sending shivers down Selena's spine.
"You still know how to make me blush," She said, her voice barely above a whisper.
"You look absolutely adorable when you blush," Eugenia insisted, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"Stop it right now," Selena said, playfully rolling her eyes.
"It's not my fault you're really cute," She teased.
"You're lucky I'm in a good mood today," She said, trying to suppress a smile but failing miserably.
"Why is that?" Eugenia asked, curiosity evident in her voice.
"You'll find out soon," She replied, a hint of excitement in her tone.
"I hate surprises," Eugenia pouted, crossing her arms.
"I know you do," She said, chuckled knowing Eugenia all too well.
The pair continued walking through the park as if nothing had happened between them. She rested her head against Eugenia's shoulder, feeling a sense of comfort and warmth.
With her arm around Eugenia's waist, she leaned in and kissed the side of her head, a gesture filled with affection. Selena didn't feel guilty for cheating on her boyfriend with Eugenia; their connection was undeniable.
As they walked, her head rested on top of Eugenia's, a silent display of their bond. Eugenia stepped back looking at her with a mix of longing and determination.
"I want you back, Selena," She said, her gaze fixed on her.
"I'm still seeing David," Selena whispered sadly, conflicted by her feelings.
"I won't give up that easily," Eugenia promised, her voice filled with determination and love.
"I should get going. I told him I was going to meet with Wiz in the studio," Selena said, taking a step back from Eugenia.
"See you later, Selena," Eugenia whispered, putting her hands in her pockets, a hint of sadness in her eyes.
"See you around," Selena replied, her voice filled with uncertainty, as she walked towards her house.
She headed to the porch, opening and closing the door behind her. Looking around, didn't see David anywhere.
She made her way to the bedroom, closing the door shut behind her. Lying on the bed, she fiddled with her phone, contemplating whether or not to tell David about what she had done and knew it wouldn't be easy, but she couldn't keep it a secret forever.
She had the ability to control herself, but deep down, she couldn't help but wonder why she would even want to. And then there was Eugenia, a person who had the power to make Selena's heart race and her cheeks flush with a mix of excitement and confusion.
Selena couldn't quite put her finger on it, but being in Eugenia's presence always left her feeling flustered, as if her emotions were in a constant state of turmoil. She smiled softly.
She fixed her appearance a little bit, stepping away from the bed, and made her way to the living room. As she entered, was surprised to see her mother walking up the driveway with her younger sister Gracie.
"What are you doing here?" Selena asked, rubbing the back of her neck.
"I came to visit you. Is it a crime to see how my own daughter is doing?" Her mom Mandy replied.
"Come on in," Selena said, opening the door for her.
"Nice to see you too, Selena," She said walking inside the house with Gracie.
Selena picked up her younger sister Gracie and pulled her close to her chest. She placed her purse on the couch and sat down.
"What brings you to the neighborhood?" Selena asked.
"I wanted to see how you're doing," Mandy replied.
"I'm good," Selena said quietly.
"You're lying," Mandy stated, raising an eyebrow at her.
"You know me so well," Selena said, laughing softly.
"What's going on?" Mandy asked.
"I met up with Eugenia," Selena confessed.
"Please tell me you didn't talk to her," Mandy said, playing with Gracie and sighing.
"We did a bit more than talking," Selena mumbled.
"What do you mean?" Mandy asked, her worry evident.
"We might have kissed," Selena admitted.
"What? Why?" Mandy exclaimed.
"It just happened," Selena explained.
"I can't believe you cheated on David with your ex-wife!" Mandy screamed.
"I know what I want, and it's to be with Eugenia again. I am going to get back together with her," Selena declared.
"She's not the one. You know your relationship is always up and down," Mandy whispered, shaking her head.
"I am willing to work things out with her," Selena insisted.
"You were a mess after the divorce. I don't want you anywhere near her, and that's final," Mandy said angrily.
"I realized I want her more than ever now. She's the love of my life," Selena pleaded.
"I don't know if I can agree with you, Selena," Mandy replied.
"I spent two years getting over her. I realized I still have feelings for her," Selena confessed.
"You need to figure out who you want to be with," Mandy stated firmly.
"I'm breaking up with David today," She declared.
"What?!" She exclaimed, her voice filled with shock.
"I've come to the realization that I can no longer pretend to be happy with him when my heart still yearns for Eugenia," Selena confessed.
"Fine, don't come running to me when it all blows up in your face," She retorted, standing up and leaving the house with Gracie in tow.
Selena rose from the couch, letting out a heavy sigh. Making her way into the kitchen, she settled down to work on the music for her upcoming album.
She couldn't fathom her mother's behavior, although it didn't come as a surprise. She knew she had to have a conversation with David about the kiss she shared with her ex, and she knew it had to happen soon.
Her thoughts were abruptly interrupted by the sound of the doorbell ringing. Curiosity piqued, she stood up and opened the door, only to find a package with a note resting on the porch.
Bringing it inside, placed it on the table, her brow furrowing in confusion. She looked at it.
"I know what you did with her today. You'll get caught soon enough." - No name.
Opening the package, she discovered a bouquet of roses on top. She absentmindedly scratched the back of her head, tossing the roses into the trash.
Selena couldn't believe that someone was blackmailing her. Shaking her head, she made her way to her car and drove to the studio.
Parking the car, stepped out and entered the building, ready to immerse herself in her music. She went to the studio.
Glancing at her phone, was taken aback by the texts from Taylor and her friends. As she opened them, her heart sank at the sight of a picture capturing her kissing Eugenia earlier.
"Oh my god, no..." She whispered, her voice barely audible.
In a state of panic, she hastily left the building, feeling the weight of her mistake. She drove home fast.
"I messed up," She cursed herself, the regret evident in her voice.
Driving through the busy streets, her mind raced with thoughts of how to fix the situation. She hurriedly entered her apartment, only to find her boyfriend, David, sitting on the couch, his expression a mix of anger and hurt.
"How could you do this to us?!" David's voice boomed as soon as she stepped inside, slamming the door shut behind her.
Nervously, she tried to find the right words to explain herself. David's piercing gaze made her face pale, especially when she noticed the picture of the ill-fated kiss on his cell phone.
