Chapter 2
After Om and Nivanya were done eating their ice cream, they left the place and went into the car.
Om: now we are going home.
Nivanya: why?
Om: because where else would we go?
Nivanya: do we have to?
Om knew why she was talking like this. Like all little kids, she did love her mother but unlike most little kids, she didn't feel happy around her mother...Nivanya tried to build a bond with her mother over and over again but Svetlana refused to let her build a bond with her. Svetlana always yelled at Nivanya or always did something to show that she hated her daughter.
He didn't know what was Svetlana's problem with Nivanya.
Om: yes princess, your mama has gone to a party so no one will yell at you.
Nivanya: pakka promise?
Om: haan meri jaan, pakka promise.
Nivanya smiled knowing that her mother was at a party. Om and Nivanya came back home and once they were home, Nivanya went to her cousin sister Arista's room so then she could play with her and Om went to his room. No he didn't share a room with Svetlana anymore...Svetlana got annoyed with Nivanya then and now coming to their room in the middle of the night and she used to create so much drama that Om moved to another room. This was because he hated sharing a room with Svetlana in the first place, they didn't share a bed, he just slept on a recliner and also if Nivanya wanted to, she could come to him at night.
He sat on his bed and went on his laptop to resume work. Yes you may think of him as a workaholic but working helped him because it distracted him. It distracted him from the mistakes he made 4 years ago.
...
London:
Gauri was done for the day. She had a big meeting tomorrow and because she was stressed a lot, she decided to leave the office early so then she could go to the spa and destress a little. Gauri saw from her window that it was raining so she went to Prerna's office to get an umbrella.
Prerna: why are you in my office?
Gauri: to get an umbrella.
Prerna: why?
Gauri: because meri pyaari se di, you have so many umbrellas in your office for some reason so I thought to take one.
Prerna: then you could have at least knocked the door before coming in.
Gauri: we're sisters, knocking on the door doesn't exist. Besides you didn't knock on my door this morning now bye, I am going to the spa.
Prerna: dad is allowing you to leave early?
Gauri: yes didi. Now bye.
Prerna: bye enjoy.
Gauri: I will.
Gauri went out of the Prerna's office. She left the building and opened up the umbrella. Rain...it reminded her of him.
You couldn't see his face but the man and Gauri were walking hand in hand, they were talking and laughing as they reached a car. The man went in the car but before Gauri went into the car, it started raining.
Gauri: yay it's raining!
Man: urgh it's raining.
Gauri ignored him and even though everyone hurried to their cars to avoid getting drenched by the rain, she didn't mind getting drenched. The man went out of the car and stood in front of her.
Gauri: now you are in the rain!
Man: to make sure you go in the car.
He grabbed her hand and tried to take her to the car but she refused.
Gauri: why do you hate rain so much?
Man: rain makes me feel miserable and now we have to deal with traffic.
Gauri: that's great. You are stuck with me for longer and rain feels romantic.
You could see the man smile as he kept his arms around her waist and pulled her close to him.
Man: rain feels romantic?
Gauri nodded.
Man: how?
Gauri: why tell you when I can show you?
She took his lips into hers.
Gauri: if he was in London, he would get so annoyed with the rain. Does he still hate rain?
She went into her car and started to drive after closing the umbrella. As she was driving, she got stuck in traffic.
Gauri: and he would have hated the traffic caused by rain....why am I thinking about him?
She waited for the traffic to start moving, she tried to distract herself from thinking about the man in her flashback. She looked around her surroundings but she still kept thinking of the man.
Finally the traffic started to move and she started driving once again. Soon she reached the spa...she was so happy when she reached the spa because then she could destress by getting a nice mani-pedi and an aromatherapy massage. As she spoke to the receptionist, she saw a small family entering the spa. A couple and a small baby daughter. The father took the baby girl and she heard him saying: have some time to yourself babe, I will look after Leah.
Mother: you sure?
Father: yes I'm sure now enjoy your time.
Mother: fine.
He kissed her cheek and the baby girl tried to hug her mother. Gauri smiled seeing the scene but she also remembered her pain, her past and a memory she wished never happened. Gauri took a deep breath and went with one of the spa staff to the room where she could get her massage.
...
It was now late at night in Mumbai. Everyone in the Oberoi family had their dinner and now were in their respective rooms. Svetlana still hadn't returned from her party. Tejvi, Shinky and dadi were getting concerned for Svetlana but the O'bros and Anika were not that concerned because none of them were Svetlana's biggest fans.
Om was in his room, on his laptop, typing up something important for work when Nivanya came, looking so adorable in her Snow White pyjamas.
Nivanya: daddy?
Om looked up from his laptop and replied: yes princess?
Nivanya: I feel sleepy.
She went on the bed, going next to Om.
Nivanya: and I want sleep with you.
Om: okay princess.
He shut his laptop and kept it on the surface of the bedside table. He went up to turn the main light off. Once the main light was off, Om went back to the bed and laid down next to Nivanya. She hugged him and within five seconds, she was asleep. Om stroked her hair, kissing her forehead. When Nivanya was asleep, he was reminded of someone, someone special to him. She looked so much like her but how?
...
Gauri was done with her spa treatment and went back into her car. As she was driving, she saw that there were so many mothers with their small babies. Gauri focused on the road, she felt happy for those mothers who had their babies by their side. She really did but she was also reminded of her pain seeing them.
As she drove her car, she suddenly got a call from someone. Connecting the phone to bluetooth, she spoke: yes Claire?
Claire: do you think you can come over to my house please?
Gauri: yeah, is everything okay? You sound upset.
Claire: it's just...Ellie...you know she tends to open up to you easily.
Gauri understood what she was on about. Ellie, her sister, faced something heartbreaking two months ago and refused to talk about it. She shut herself in, only communicating with Claire sometimes. Though Ellie and Claire were sisters, Ellie found it easier sometimes to confide in Gauri.
Gauri: I'm coming. Let me get through this traffic.
Claire: come soon please.
Gauri: okay.
She cut the call and managed to get through traffic. Gauri stopped by Claire's house and went out of her car to talk to Ellie.
Claire: she's in her room.
Gauri nodded as she knocked on the door of Ellie's room. Ellie opened the door with tears coming out of her eyes.
Ellie: today would have been the day that I would have given birth to Lucas.
Gauri hugged Ellie before the two sat on her bed.
Ellie: he was so tiny, so damn cute and I planned to make memories with him, why did Lucas leave me Gauri? Why?
She said crying. Gauri hugged her tightly.
Gauri: God loved your baby so much Ellie that he wanted Lucas to be with him in heaven.
Ellie: I wish God didn't love my son so much to take him away from me.
Gauri: I wish the same every damn day with my daughter.
Ellie got up and went to her cupboard to get out a small baby blue blanket before sitting next to Gauri again. She showed Gauri the blanket and then showed 'Lucas' seen on the blanket.
Ellie: he was wrapped in this blanket for the first time. He looked so cute in this blanket.
Gauri: I had a blanket made like this for my daughter. It was pink with 'Nivanya' sewn on it.
Ellie: I thought knowing your baby gender before birth is illegal in India.
Gauri: well I always knew that I was expecting a little girl. She was tiny, cute and she held my finger tightly as if she was telling me that 'mama don't ever let me go'.
Ellie: why is life so unfair? My husband left me for some bitch who is plastic. I then got kicked out of my apartment. I then get the one good news in my life which is me being pregnant and life didn't even let me be Lucas's mother!
Gauri: I don't know Ellie but remember you are always Lucas's mother and he is alive in your heart. Also remember it's okay to not feel okay. Even as you rightfully grieve, please know that you are deeply loved. I care about you and Ellie, don't punish yourself. It was not your fault and it never was your fault.
Ellie hugged Gauri and then Claire came in to see how they were doing and she also joined the hug. Gauri and Claire allowed Ellie to cry for Lucas and they also shed tears for the little boy who was only there for a couple of hours.
That day, Gauri went back to her house. She was home alone so she went to her room and got out what she called a baby box for her rainbow baby.
She opened the box lid and picked up the baby pink blanket. Gauri smiled seeing it with tears in her eyes before hugging the blanket. She then looked at the name on the blanket 'Nivanya'. Gauri always loved the name and she wanted to name her daughter that name but like Ellie said, life was unfair.
Gauri then kept the blanket to a side and picked up a birth certificate for her daughter. She didn't want a death certificate.
1st August 2015....the day she gave birth to her daughter and the day she lost her daughter to God. She didn't have the guts to see her daughter's face when she was announced no more and she regretted it.
Gauri did keep the little hospital bands she and Nivanya had that day, she kept the blanket, all the scans, she kept the little gifts her dad, jiju and sisters gave Nivanya when she was born. She kept all the little things that was meaningful to her and they would always be meaningful to her.
...
Mumbai:
Nivanya: daddy?
She said as her dad was stroking her hair and hugging his little girl.
Om: I thought you was asleep Princess.
Nivanya: I decided what I want for my birthday next month.
Om: and what do you want Princess?
Nivanya: a new mummy and a unicorn.
Om: a new mummy?
Nivanya: my mummy is very mean and I think she is Cinderella's stepmother in disguise.
Om. I think so too.
Nivanya: so I get a new mummy for my birthday and a unicorn?
Om: a unicorn, yeah sure I'll see where I can get a unicorn from.
Nivanya: a unicorn comes from a pet store. You should know daddy.
Om chuckled as he kissed her forehead.
Om: okay the birthday fairy will consider your birthday wishes now sleep.
Nivanya snuggled against her dad, losing her eyes as he continued to stroke her hair. He thought about the new mummy thing. Why couldn't Svetlana be the mother that Nivanya deserved?
Om: I love you Princess.
Nivanya sleepily: I love you too superhero.
Om smiled. He loved this little girl like he loved someone else years ago. He loved that one girl and he loved her so much. He loved how she used to look at him and make him only focus on her. He loved how she used to take forever sometimes selecting an ice cream flavour when she was bored of her roasted almond ice cream. He loved how her eyes twinkled seeing jewellery. He loved how she would order a bad dish then eat all of his food. He loved how she loved the sound of rain and he loved how even now she ruled his dreams.
He missed her smile but every time he looked at Nivanya, he found his lover's smile in his daughter's face. He shouldn't have let her go yet being an idiot and a jerk as she called him, he let her go.
Soooo I unpublished this at one point but now this book is back. I really hope you all liked this and I know at the moment some of you may be confused but everything will make sense as the story progresses. Thank you for reading guys and have a great day ❤️
