Commander Iverson had me, Shiro, Dr.Holt and Matt to report to the science lab like we always do every morning sense the internship began.

I was sitting on a table and I was wearing jeans an old crop top and a loose jacket. Matt was leaning on the table beside me and Shiro and Dr. Holt were standing across us with Iverson in the middle of all of us.

"Why are we all gathered here?" Matt asked Iverson.

"As you all know the Kerberos mission leaves in two weeks." We all nod out heads waiting for Commander Iverson to continue. "Dr. Holt is the Commander and Shrio is the pilot." Iverson turns his head so he is looking a Matt straight on, "Matt your the scientist other than your father of course." Commander Iverson then looks at me. "Amber this was originally goning to be a three person team but because of your improvement. You are the engineer of the Kerberos Mission. Congratulations."

My body feels numb everyones eyes are on me. I can move cant speak. I fix my posture on the table so im looking commander Iverson in the eyes. "Thank you sir. This is an honor." He nods his head and walks out of the room.

This is the best thing to ever happen to me. "Congratulations Amber." Shiro says breaking the slience.

My mouth is still dropped. "She's speechless." Matt says pulling me into a hug.

"This is amazing." I finally get out closing my mouth. "Wait." I stand up from the table. "My family I have to go and tell them."

Shiro looks at me and clasps my shoulder looking into my eyes. "They already know."

I look into his brown eyes, "You knew?" I look at Shiro as he drops his hand to his side.

"We all did." I look at Dr. Holt, Well now its commander Holt.

I let out a laugh. We all begin laughing. "We should celebrate." I look up and Shiro continues to speak, "Sense we are all going to be in close quarters for awhile. Dinner?"

"Im in." I say smiling.

That night the four of us went to a tai restaurant and had fun. Shiro and Dr. Holt each had a beer while I had tea and Matt had a glass of water.

We laughed. Until the subject changed and I asked, "how am I gonna say goodbye to my family?"

Shiro took a long drag from his beer while, Matt and Dr. Holt but their lips Shiro set down his beer,  "Goodbye is just a different hello. Your family shaped you into who you are, We will help create your future. Goodbye and Hello. Youll be where you want to be in no time."

"Wise words." I said nodding my head taking in the words he said.

"From a wise man." Dr. Holt said

"We got a whole night. Tommorow we can worry." Matt says as he holds up his glass, "To Kerberos."

"To Kerberos." We all clink are glasses of beer, tea and water.

My MeeMaw once said that 'Thoes who tend to dwell on the present never see the future.'  I think she was right. If I keep worrying about how to say goodbye to my family tommorow given they already know I'm leaving. I still have to say goodbye in person.

he rest of the night goes quickly next thing I know I'm walking to my room talking with Matt about my younger sibling Luis. "I really think he's honna join the Garrison one day."

"And follow in your footsteps." Matt add as we approach the stairwell.

"Well mine, Veronica and Lances." I say "I followed in Veronicas footsteps and Lance followed in mine." We begin to ascend up the staircase.

"I think my sister, Katie is gonna join the Garrison as well. Shes got the brains." Matt smiles lost in thought.

"I'm surprised she hasn't joined under a fake name and age already."

"She wouldn't do that."

I smile as I grab my door knob, "you never know."

"Goodnight Amber."

"Goodnight Matt."

I don't bother turn on the lights I'm too tired to do anything. I lye down in my bed and hug my pillow drifting into sleep. Knowing the future is right in front of me.

I HAVE OFFICIALY SUTVIVED 2 WEEKS OF HIGHSCHOOL!!!
