Equal Pay

Ciao! Today I feel very honored to share my poem with you today, not only because it's Women's History Month, but I have also been told that my book is inspirational. That alone means more to me than having a million reads.

Hello everyone, today I feel very honored to write today and not only because it's Women History month but I have been told that this book is inspirational and that alone to me means more than having a million reads. While it would be nice to get more reads on this book my purpose is to help not only women but to help everyone use their voice. Meghan Markle actually stated this but everyone has a voice they just have to use it. I hope that I can help you find your voice.

The topic that I'll be writing about today is drumroll please.......... Equal pay. It is a known fact that women are not being paid the same amount of money as men when they work just as hard and sometimes even more hours than them.

Sometimes I dream of Lupita.

Her smooth chocolate skin sweating as she works on the set,

Her heart swooning as her career is taking off as if it's on a jet,

Not having to worry about not being paid or being in debt.

Sometimes I dream of Emma,

Interviewing others about their stories,

Going through their personal inventory,

While somehow bringing them up with glory.

Sometimes I dream of Michelle,

Not afraid of lifting her hands off the rails,

Gliding confidently to the center stage,

Unmasking hollywood's darkest secrets while letting go of bottled up rage.

Sometimes I dream of myself,

Encouraging women to unite together.

Our wallets will no longer be as light as a feather,

Instead, we'll take charge dressed in pleated leather

Paragraphs

Why do we as women, or people in general, feel the need to bring each other down? We all want to be successful, so why don't we encourage one another? Believe it or not, but the person that you envy has their own battles that they're fighting in the dark. Instead of criticizing each other to make ourselves feel better, why don't we all unite as one and strengthen each other? As lovely as it would be if one person could single-handedly change the world, it's not realistic, and the reality of it all is that we have to work together if we want to achieve our goals.

The wonderful women that inspired me to write this poem is Lupita Nyong'o, Emma Stone and Michelle Rodriguez. They are all diverse from each other, but one thing that they have in common is that they stood up to their directors and demanded equal pay. A lesson that can be taught from their experience, is that you should always use your voice and those around you to demand what's right.
