Sarah and Leah caught me wobbling in the hallway.

"Damn Jass. You look like you're going to pass out in any second! What are you doing at school?" Leah asked me concerned.

I'm at school because if I'd stayed home I would be sleeping by now, and I cannot sleep, I wanted to answered but didn't.

"I'm perfect!" I answered and got out of their grip.

"What's going on with you?" Sarah asked me.

"Nothing, alright!" I said too loudly and everyone in the hall stared at me.

"Jasmine, something is obviously wrong. You haven't been yourself lately..." Leah said.

Like I needed her to remind me!

"Just let it go!" I said and walked to my class, my head spinning and my eyelids begging to close.

When I reached my classroom I let myself fall on my seat and rested my head on my desk.

"Busy night?" Aston asked, while sitting at the desk beside mine, smirking.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I answered him, my eyes narrowing.

"Well, someone is a little slow this morning!"

"Leave her the hell alone" Matt said, walking towards us and sitting at the desk behind mine.

"Oh, if it isn't Mister Overprotective" Aston said but lay back in his chair.

And then the teacher came in and started to give her lesson, but I couldn't form coherent sentence with the words she was saying.

At one point, Matt started to tap my shoulder and I raised my head to notice I was almost falling asleep.

"Sleepy, aren't we Miss Roberts?" the teacher said to me.

"Hmm, I'm sorry, what?" I started to mumbled.

"I asked you, who invented the first thermometer?" Mrs Clarkson told me, her voice almost angry.

"I'm sorry, I don't..."

"Galileo" I heard Matt say, but it didn't come from behind me. It came from my mind.

Alright what the hell!!!?

"Galileo..." I mumbled and Mrs Clarkson went on with her lecture and I turned around to stare a Matt.

"How did you..." I started to whispered but the teacher stopped me.

"Miss Roberts! Is there a problem with my class?" she asked me, her eyes narrowing.

"No, no. Everything's perfect Mrs Clarkson. I'm really sorry."

I kept my eyes on the teacher throughout all the class but my mind was in a daze.

How the hell did I hear Matt? Usually, I heard what he was hearing in a far distance, not what he was thinking in a near place.

Something was definitely wrong with me... Or maybe it was Matt? Matt could have been projecting his mind... I thought.

But that was least likely. I was the freak after all.

And it wasn't like thing like that were possible...

When the class ended, I turned around and stared at Matt.

"Matt...?" I started to say.

"Oh what? You're talking to me now?" he asked is voice filled with anger and pain and sadness and... damn I wasn't a good best friend.

"Look Matt, I don't want to keep anything from you... it's just, sometimes there are things I can't even understand myself and I feel so confused and I just don't know how to tell you..." I started to mumbled, my eyes on my shoes.

Matt tilt my head back up, his fingers on my chin and stared at me with eyes so intense I felt like blushing.

"Jasmine, you can tell me everything. And I really mean everything! You know that?" he said his eyes shining.

"Ya I know..." I answered.

"And you need to sleep." he added, frowning.

"I can't sleep..."

"Because you're scared?" he asked me.

"Yes..." I answered my eyes falling on my shoes again.

"Of what?" he asked, his voice tense.

"Nightmares..." I answered in less than a whisper.

Matt walked me to my next class in silence. He looked like he was concentrating on something, like he was trying to resolve a really really hard math problem.

I spent the next period in what felt like a cloud, or a giant cotton wool. I couldn't concentrate on anything, and everything around me felt out of reach.

My eyelids were burning, my eyes were filling up with tears and my hands were shaking.

What was I thinking?

I can't "not" sleep!

When lunch time arrived I didn't know how I could survive another minute without sleep.

Matt was waiting for me beside the door and he walked with me to the cafeteria.

"What are they about?" he whispered to me, his eyes on his tray when we were in line to get our food.

"Nothing really... It's just... I'm scared of what is going to happen..." I whispered back.

"Going to happen?" he asked, one of his eyebrows rising.

I just stared at him and sighed.

"Alright alright... I'll stop the questioning..."

We walked to our table and started to eat in silence.

"Hey! Did you guys remember we had that educational play this afternoon in the auditorium?" Aston asked when he sat at our table.

"No" me and Matt answered at the same time.

And then we looked at each other and smiled.

"Linked spirit" Matt whispered.

"Enough with the nice moments. It's driving me insane!" Aston said when Sarah and Leah joined us.

"Are you guys ditching school?" Aston asked them.

They both looked confused.

"Am I the only one reading these memos? There's an educational play in the auditorium this afternoon ergo, no class, ergo, I go." he answered.

"And if you get busted your mommy is going to get mad at you and she won't clean your room anymore" Sarah said in a teasing voice.

"She'll understand." he answered seriously "It's not like that crap is important. It's probably going to be about no underage drinking, no drugs and no sex until you're forty because hanging at the library and spending quality time with your parents is way more cool" he said and rolled his eyes.

"What's wrong with the library!!?" I said my voice getting high again.

"Nothing Sainte-Jasmine" Aston said and chuckled.

"For your information Aston Parker, the only girl that loves you and that you spend time with is your mom so you're in no position to speak" Sarah said with an evil grin.

"And he gets tipsy with his mouthwash" Matt said under a few cough.

Aston didn't hear it, but I did and burst into a hysterical laugh. Might have something to do with the not sleeping thing but whatever...

"You guys are always teaming up to destroy me... It's mean you know!" Aston said and sulked in his food.

"Aww, come on Aston, you know we only tease the one we love!" Sarah said pushing his shoulder playfully.

"Ya well it would be nice if you guys loved me a little less!"

The rest of our lunch time went out pretty uneventfully except for the many times my face almost fell into my spaghetti plate.

And then we all got up from the table, picking up our trays and heading towards the auditorium. We each went to see the teacher we were supposed to have for that class and gave our intendancy before going to find a seat.

But as I walked in the big room I started to freak out. How in hell would I stay awake when all the lights would be out and the play boring?

Matt grabbed my hand before I started to freak out too much.

"Come on we got seats over there" he said and towed me to where everyone were.

"Matt..?" I said, pulling on his hand to make him stop "I'm going to fall asleep!" I whispered desperate.

Matt looked at me, not sure what to say.

"You know technically you should be sleeping..."

I just stared at him desperate.

"Alright alright. Don't worry, I'll keep you awake" answered and walked again, dragging me along.

"This is going to be sooo boring" I heard Aston whine at the end of the row.

"If you're complaining, then why are you here?" Sarah asked him.

He didn't answer.

"Coward up, as usual" Sarah said playfully.

And then I heard her giggle so I think he was tickling her, but I couldn't see anything anymore cause the lights were closing.

I instantly felt the weight on my eyelids increase. I gripped the armrest of my chair, trying to get some control but my hands were so weak I was barely holding it.

Concentrate on the play, keep your eyes open, I kept telling myself.

My head slowly tilt to the left and rested on Matt's shoulder without me even realizing it.

"Sure you want to stay up?" Matt whispered to me, bringing me back from my zooming out, before kissing the top of my head.

I blinked a few times, not so sure about where I was.

"Ya..." I answered and raised my head back up.

"Alright" Matt answered and started to go through his pocket and got a pen out.

"What are you doing?" I asked him when he took my left arm and started to draw a small tic-tac-toe grid on it.

"Keeping you concentrated" he answered and gave me the pen.

It was dark but I could still see the lines on my forearm, so I placed my X on the right corner and gave him the pen back.

We played like that throughout all the play. At one point we didn't have room on my arm to draw more grid so we did it on Matt's arm but since the closest was his right and he had to write with his left and was right-handed it was pretty funny, looking at him concentrate on trying to trace something that looked like an O.

Plus the whole drawing on our arms and touching all the time was kind of distracting...

Alright I'll admit it, I think I like Matt... like a lot...

And having him touching me was nice. I like it. And it was strange because I was so use to have him kiss the top of my head or my forehead, or having him holding my hand or hugging me but I don't know... I just felt different with the lights out... Like I was really aware of him physically...

When the play was over and everyone started to applause I was completely taken by surprise.

It was already over?

I wanted to keep on going for ever...

Matt turned to face the stage and he looked like he wasn't sure what was going on too, but then started clapping.

I joined but only weakly, I mean I was still tired.

The lights opened again and I was blinded for a few seconds.

"Well, that wasn't so bad after all!" Aston said getting up.

Matt stretched his arms in front of him, making the joints pop.

"Really. Well, I didn't get any of it" he answered and yawned.

Aston stared at our arms and frowned.

"What have you guys been doing?"

"Well we played tic-tac-toe Mister Obvious" Matt answered in a duh voice.

Alright... is it just me or everyone were eying us curiously...?

Matt and I got up at the same time and walked out of the auditorium with our friends behind us.

"Hey Matt, you didn't forget the track team meeting right?" Aston asked walking away from us.

Matt's eyes almost popped out of their sockets.

"Shit... hey Leah mind driving Jass home?" he asked her.

"No problem!" she answered smiling.

"Thanks" he answered and turned to face me.

"I'll come over tonight to drop some things over, alright?" he said to me his head bending a little to be more on my level even though I still had to look up.

I just nodded.

He kissed the top of my head, gave me a half smile and walked over to Aston.

I started at him until he turned in another hallway and then sighed and looked at Leah.

"Let's go" I said and we walked to her car.

When we were both seated Leah turned to face me.

"Jass, seriously, when are you going to tell Matt you like him?"
