Me, The First Half Immortal Half Spirit (2)
I ran through the house with my breakfast in one hand and a watering can in the other. I had only fallen asleep three hours ago and couldn't get out of bed in time; it was hard to just open my eyes.
"Hurry up Jasmine! Matt's waiting in front!" my mother yelled at me from the kitchen.
"I'm hurrying mom! But these flowers won't water themselves on their own, now will they?"
"Well it would be a first" my mother answered back with a low chuckle before adding "Damn flowers..."
Ah the hating phase again...
"Matt's honking Jasmine!" my father yelled.
"I know! I know!!" I cried back and rushed through the kitchen, threw my dishes in the sink and then through the living room and grabbed my bag.
"Love you mom, love you dad! Bye!" I screamed and ran towards Matt' 1967 Ford Mustang painted in green "Viper's Style" with two white stripes in front. I'm not a car fan, but the boy is obsess with the thing! It's kind of a running joke between us. I say he's in love with it; he can get so annoying when he starts talking about it, like it's alive! He always says he would pick his car over me if it ever came down to it, and I don't argue with that.
At least the fact that he has a car means we drive to school together and that way mom and dad don't have to drive me everyday and loose some of the precious minutes they need to give to our flowers.
"Hey there. Someone looks tired. New book?" Matt said as I closed the door beside me.
What should I answer? No you played your loud violent video game till four in the morning and all I could hear was the bang! bang! sound of your guns.
"Ya" I crooked.
And then I added just because I had to, "You don't look so awake yourself..."
"Really? Nah... I slept fine..." he replied smoothly while taking left on Main Street.
Hmm? Why was he lying to me?
"You can't fool me Matthew Allen. Your eyes can barely stay open!" I told him, smacking him on the arm with the back of my hand.
I don't know how he managed -well I usually don't anyway- but he grabbed me around the neck with his right arm, ruffled my hair with his left hand and still managed to not deviate an inch.
"You got me Blondie!" he laughed.
I tried to get some order back in my hair but gave up considering the fact I just have so many of it.
"Why did you lie then?" I finally said in an exhausted tone.
Boy this day was meant to be long...
"I was just testing you." He answered with a hint of a smile on his lips.
"Did I pass the test?" I answered sarcastically.
"Sure."
"You're annoying in the morning Matt." I complained
"You're susceptible in the morning Jass." he chuckled.
"So why couldn't you sleep last night?" I asked, checking if he would lie to me again.
"I had a lot on my mind. Played video games to distract me, didn't work."
Good boy! I thought.
"Wanna talk about it? What you have on your mind, I mean."
"Nah..." he just answered and turned his head slightly to the left, cutting my access to his eyes, the easiest way to read him.
By then we had reached the school parking lot and we were getting out of the car.
"Matt!" I said while he darted towards the school "What's wrong?"
He stopped and turned so abruptly I bumped into him. I raised my head to look at his face but all I could see was his chin. Damn giant!
He closed his arms around me and hugged me in silence.
Alright what was going on?
"Matt? Are you okay?" I whispered against his chest.
"No. No, Jass I'm not okay." He answered and held me a little further from him so I could see his face.
Where did the guy who was making jokes just minutes ago had gone? That was something Matt mastered -hiding perfectly his feeling to everyone. But right now he wasn't hiding them.
He looked so sad and desperate; I wanted to hug him again, anything that could take the pain away from his beautiful face. It was hard for me to see Matt vulnerable like that. And I wasn't used to it. I wasn't good at comforting people.
I brushed my hand on the side of his face and left it there.
He sighed heavily and then started to talk.
"Dad wants to leave..."
"What!?" I hissed
Matt couldn't go away! I couldn't loose him!
"You're moving?" I moaned.
"I don't know... He wants to go on these humanitarian trips with my uncle. With Katherine gone and me almost done with school he wants to sell the house..."
"But what about the Auto Shop? And your mom..." I trailed.
"What do you think I've been trying to use to make him stay!?" Matt said shaking his head in disapproval.
"But that doesn't mean anyone will buy the house, I mean it can take a while..."
"Dad already book the first trip...Even if we don't sell right away, we're leaving in a week..."
"WHAT!?"
One week! How could Matt leave me in ONE week!!? And most of all how in hell had I missed that? With all the eavesdropping I'd been doing you would have thought I would have known things like that! If I didn't catch news like that then why the hell was I hearing in the first place?
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?! Matt what were you thinking!?"
"I didn't know how to tell you Jass..." he whispered and I saw so much pain and sadness in his eyes I just hugged him again.
He held me tightly, resting his cheek on top of my head and I couldn't help the little sob that escaped my throat while my tears were staining Matt's shirt.
"Aw...what am I going to do with you Jasmine Roberts?" he said while backing up and patting my hair.
"Bite me! I'm crying cause you're a bad best friend!" I mumbled and whipped the tears with the back of my hand.
Matt chuckled and he was back to normal.
"And what about your car? Can't take that thing up to Africa!" I told him while we walked side by side towards the school.
"Shhh! Not too loud! I haven't told her yet. She'll probably try to kill herself if I tell her the news... What wouldn't I do to bring her up with me...I could totally sell you on Craig's List!"
"Jackass!" I groaned and smack his stomach with the back of my hand.
He caught it and tickled me on the side, not letting my hand escape from his.
"What do you want me to say? You're my best friend but she's my love..." he explained while laughing.
"I liked you better when you were all sad and vulnerable..." I mumbled.
"Ya right!" he snorted
"Hey Matt! Guess who didn't beat your record last night at the track?" Aston yelled out from across the parking lot running towards us.
"Told ya!" Matt yelled back and mocked punched him on the shoulder when he reached us.
"Steven?" I asked.
"Right! Last night he told everyone on the track team that he could beat Matt's record. The coach said if he did he would get first place in the team." Aston answered me with a big smile.
"I didn't even bother going" Matt snorted.
"Like someone could beat the cheetah!!" Aston shouted and everyone stared at him while he growled and Matt joined him.
"Stop acting like idiots!" I hissed and smacked them both on the back of their heads.
"We're just trying to teach those sophomores some manners!" Aston said.
"You're being immature that's what you're doing!" I told him frowning and I stuck my tongue out at him and he did the same.
"I know you want me Jass!" Aston crooned, and Matt punched him on the stomach.
"Someone's... jealous..." Aston gasped.
"No! Someone's just being nice!! Jackass!" I answered giving him a flick right on his nose.
"Can't leave you three alone without starting a fight can't you?" a singing voice said behind me.
"She started it!" Aston moaned.
"Sure!" Leah answered as she snorted and slid her arms under mine, making her black curls flip from one side to another.
"You're all taking her side! It's soo not fair!" he continued.
"Of course we do! Look how cute and defenceless she seems. Someone ought to take care of her!" Leah went on and she pinched my cheek.
God I hated when she did that!
Matt had his head raised up and he was chuckling
"Go on, laugh!" Aston whine
"Never asked your permission" Matt answered and laughed again.
Other friends were starting to gather around and I smiled at Sarah who slid her arms with Leah's.
"Fighting with Aston again?" she asked me.
"He started it" I mouthed to her.
"Did not!" Aston spoke up.
"Did too!" I answered back.
"Cut it out kids!" Leah said and she punched Aston on the shoulder.
"You're all so mean to me!" Aston cried and Matt laughed again.
"Come on we got to get to class" Matt said and he pushed Aston in front of him.
Just then Matt released my hand and followed him.
"Wait!" I said and he turned around.
"Our conversation wasn't over! We're still talking about this! I'm not letting you leave." I told him in a firm tone.
"I know! That's why you're my favourite person in the whole wide world" he answered chuckling and kissed my forehead.
I just stood there and kept staring at him. Gosh he was cute in his V neck gray shirt, dark jeans and green puma shoes...
"Isn't he some hot piece of meat?" Sarah said beside me.
"You got that right" I answered.
Wait!! SHIT! Did I just say that???
Leah and Sarah were staring at me with wide eyes.
"Did she just say that?" Leah asked.
"I'm positively sure she just did..." Sarah answered.
"But that's not possible Sainte-Jasmine doesn't find anyone hot!" Leah gasped.
"But did you see how she was just drooling right there?" Sarah kept on going.
"Hey! I'm right here! And I didn't say anything, you heard me!! Whatever you think you heard you haven't!!" I answered dryly and walk/ran towards my class.
"This is big!" I heard Sarah say from a distance but I couldn't listen to their nonsense babbling.
Why had I just said that? Matt was my best friend not some "hot piece of meat" and most of all, even if he were, I never acknowledge that about anyone! NEVER! What was going on with me?
