chapter two
the night of the comet
⎯⎯⎯⎯

The next morning, the hale siblings were eating breakfast, "Are you sure you're okay?" Laura asked Willow the next morning at breakfast. "Yeah, last night was just freaky." Willow said. "Do you still think it's a vampire, the ones from moms stories?" Derek asked before taking a sip of his coffee. "I don't know, but I know no animal would leave her alive, not like that." Willow said. "Well I hope Matt's sister is alright," Laura said with a shake of her head as she put her plate in the sink.

"Same," Willow muttered as she got up and took her car keys from the hook in the kitchen. "Well, I've got to get to school, I'll see you guys later, you guys are still coming tonight right?" Willow asked and Laura nodded, making Willow smile before she waved goodbye to her siblings before leaving the house and getting in her car.

Caroline, Bonnie and Willow were walking through the halls talking. "I'm confused. Are you psychic or clairvoyant?" Caroline asked Bonnie confused. "Technically, Grams says I'm a witch. My ancestors were these really cool Salem witch chicks or something. Grams tried to explain it all, but she was looped on the liquor so I kinda tuned out. Crazy family, yes. Witches? I don't think so." Bonnie said, making Willow furrow her brows. If Bonnie really was a witch, maybe there were other supernatural creatures out there other than werewolves, and Willow hadn't even thought about that before.

"Yeah, well, feel free to conjure up the name and number of that guy from last night." Caroline said bitterly, making Willow confused. "What guy?" Willow asked. "She apparently saw an attractive guy last night, but I didn't see him, she did." Bonnie explained before turning to Caroline. "Why didn't you just talk to him?" She asked. "I don't know. I was drunk." Caroline said which caused Willow to sigh. "You'll find him Care," she said, making Caroline send her a smile.

Later that day, Elena and Willow had met up with Matt, wanting to see how Vicki was doing. "They're keeping her overnight to make sure there's no infection, but she should be able to come home tomorrow." Matt said and Willow could see the relief in his eyes that his sister would be okay. "That's good news." Elena said."Yeah." Matt said with a nod.

"Did you manage to get in touch with your mom?" Willow asked as she hiked up her bag on her shoulder. "Called and left a message. She's in Virginia Beach with her boyfriend, so...we'll see how long it takes her to come rushing home." Matt said, making Willow sigh, she may not have known Matt like Elena, but she felt for her friend.

"Vicki's lucky that she's ok." Elena said. "I know, and now there's talk of some missing campers." Matt said. "Did she say what kind of animal it was that attacked her?" Willow asked, remembering her conversation with her sister this morning. "She said it was a vampire." Matt said. "What?" they asked in sync, Elena's letting out a confused laugh while Willow's heart dropped.

"Yeah, she wakes up last night and mutters 'vampire' and then passes out." Matt respondes. "That's weird." Willow said tensely. "I think she was drunk." Matt replied before he turned to Elena. "So what's up with you and the new guy?" he asked, nodding his head towards Stefan, making them look over towards him, unaware that Stefan was sitting on a table, listening to their entire conversation. "Matt, the last thing that I want to do is hurt you." Elena spoke softly, and Willow suddenly wanted to be anywhere but there.

"You know, I'm...I'm actually gonna go back to the hospital. I want to be there when Vicki wakes up, get the real story about last night." Matt said, not really responding to Elena. "Okay." Elena nodded and Matt walked off, leaving the two girls to watch as he left. "Everything will work out, life has a way of sorting things out." Willow said as she linked her arm with Elena, "Who said that?" Elena asked. "My mom." Willow responded softly, making Elena get her a comforting smile before they both walked off, arms still linked.

Later that day Elena, Bonnie, Caroline and Willow were sitting out front of The Mystic Grill and folding pamphlets for The Night of the Comet as Bonnie was explaining to them what her Grams had said to her this time. "Well, I was talking to Grams, and she said the comet is a sign of impending doom. The last time it passed over Mystic Falls, there was lots of death, so much blood and carnage, it created a bed of paranormal activity." Bonnie explained.

"Yeah, and then you poured Grams another shot and she told you about the aliens." she said sarcastically before turning to Elena. "So then what?" Caroline asked. "So then nothing." Elena responded. "You and Stefan talked all night? There was no sloppy first kiss or touchy feely of any kind?" Caroline asked. "Nope. We didn't go there." Elena responded. "Really?" Willow spoke up as she gave Elena a look as she folded a pamphlet.

"Not even a handshake? I mean, Elena, we are your friends. Ok?" Caroline motioned to her, Bonnie and Willow. "You are supposed to share the smut." Caroline remarked, causing Willow to laugh. "We just talked for hours." Elena replied, making Caroline more frustrated. "Ok, what is with the blockage?" Caroline asked. "Just jump his bones already!" she exclaimed.

"Ok, it's easy. Boy likes girl, girl likes boy, sex!" she added. "Profound." Elena remarked as she folded a pamphlet as she thought for a second before grabbing her jacket off the back of the chair and Willow noticed her getting ready to leave.

"Where are you going? We still have pamphlets to fold." Willow asked. "Caroline's right. It is easy. If I sit here long enough, I'll end up talking myself out of it instead of doing what I started the day saying what I was going to do." she said as she got up and left. "Welp, you are down a helper Care." Willow remarked as she grabbed Elena's pile of pamphlets and split them between herself, Caroline and Bonnie while Caroline sent her a playful glare.

⎯⎯⎯⎯

The next day, Elena, Bonnie and Willow were standing and handing out pamphlets to people. "Tonight, night of the comet! Would you like a program?" Willow asked as she held a pamphlet out to a person who took it from her before she turned to Elena. "He didn't call, did he?" she asked. "Or text." Elena added. "But I realized we never even exchanged that stuff. We've never gotten to the texting part." Elena explained. "That's an important milestone in any relationship." Bonnie remarked and Willow nodded in agreement.

"Isn't it? The timing is wrong, anyway." Elena said as she handed out a few pamphlets. "When is it ever right?" Willow asked rhetorically. "I'm not ready, Bonnie, Willow." Elena told them. "Who is?" Bonnie asked. "At least I put myself out there." Elena said and Willow smiled at her friend. "Is that what you're calling it?" Bonnie asked, making WIllow snicker. "What do you mean?" Elena asked her, confused. "All we're hearing is reasons why you can't." Willow explained.

⎯⎯⎯⎯

Willow was with her sister and brother when Caroline came up to them. "Hello Hale family." she greeted, making Willow laugh. "Hello Caroline." Laura greeted with a smile while Derek nodded. "Here." she said to Willow, holding out her candle so she can use hers to light Willow's. "Thanks Care." Willow thanked her before she walked off, to where Willow assumed to find Elena and Bonnie. "I have no idea how you're friends with her." Derek grumbled. "Oh stop being so grumpy, der bear." Laura teased, causing Willow to laugh.

"She's chill once you get to know her," Willow said, defending Caroline. "Look, there it is." Laura said, gaining her younger sibling's attention, pointing to the sky, seeing the comet. "It's so beautiful." Willow breathed out before she felt Laura pull into a side hug as well Derek. Willow may miss her mother, father, uncle and other family terribly, but she was lucky she still had her older siblings, for if she lost them, they wouldn't know what to do.

⎯⎯⎯⎯

Later Willow, after the comet, was with her friends in The Mystic Grill. Laura and Derek had gone home. "Hey, has anyone seen Vicki?" Jeremy Gilbert asked as he approached them. "You're her stalker, you tell us." Tyler said angrily, causing Willow to slap his arm. "I can't find her." Jeremy told them. "She probably found somebody else to party with, sorry, pill pusher, I guess you've been replaced." Tyler said, and Willow noticed Matt staring daggers into Tyler's head. God what a dick. She thought,

"What's with the pill pusher?" She asked Tyler.  "Ask him." Tyler motioned to Jeremy. "You wanna do this right now?" Jeremy asked him. "Are you dealing?" Elena asked him, Jeremy looked over at her but before he could respond Tyler talked again. "She's never gonna go for you." Tyler told Jeremy.

"She already did." Jeremy shot back. "Over and over and over again." he added, shocking everyone. "Yeah, right." Tyler said, not believing him. "You slept with Vicki Donovan? I mean, Vicki Donovan slept with you?" Caroline corrected herself. "There's no way." Tyler said with a shake of his head. "And I didn't even have to force her into it." Jeremy said, making Willow's eyes widen. "What the hell is he talking about, Ty?" Matt finally spoke up as he looked at his best friend.

"Nothing, man, just ignore him, he's a punk." Tyler dismissed him. "You know what, how about all of you shut up and help me find my sister?" Matt suggested, and Willow nodded. "We'll go check the back." she said, motioning between her and Bonnie. "I'll check the square." Matt said before Bonnie and Willow left.
