friday night bites
⎯⎯⎯⎯

"I'm not saying don't date the guy, I'm just saying, take it slow." Bonnie said as she, Elena and Willow stepped out of her car. "Weren't you the one telling her to go for it?" Willow asked and Elena pointed to her in agreement. "Now, I'm saying take it slow." Bonnie remarked. "Why the about-face?" Elena asked. "It's not an about-face. You're single for the first time in your entire high school career, it's the perfect time to play the field." Bonnie responded. "Oh, because I'm so that girl, seriously, what are you not saying?" Elena laughed as she looked at Bonnie.

"It's stupid." Bonnie dismissed her but Elena stopped her. "Bonnie..." Willow trailed off as she looked at Bonnie, crossing her arms. "What?" she asked. "Spit it out." Elena demanded. "I accidentally touched Stefan... and I got a really bad feeling." Bonnie explained and Elena gave her a look while Willow played with her bracelet, wondering what kind of bad feeling. "Is that it?" Elena asked and Bonnie sighed before beginning to walk off. "Bonnie?" she asked and stopped her again.

"It was bad, bad!" Bonnie insisted. "Is this the whole witch mojo thing again?" Willow asked, trying to ignore the sinking of her stomach. "You know what? I'm just concerned. This is me expressing concern about my best friend's new boyfriend." Bonnie said, making Elena put her hands on Bonnie's shoulders. "And I love you for it, I do. But I feel good, it's been a hard year and I'm starting to kind of feel like things are getting back to normal again and you know what? Stefan is a big part of that." she said with a smile. Bonnie smiled, trying to be happy for her friend, ignoring the bad feeling.

As they began walking again, Stefan approached them. "Good Morning, Elena." He greeted her before turning to Bonnie and Willow. "Good Morning, Bonnie, Willow." he said. "Hey, um, I gotta find Caroline, she's not answering her phone so, see you guys.." Bonnie made an excuse. "Bonnie, wait." Elena tried, but Bonnie wasn't listening and she left anyway. "I better go after her, see you guys," Willow said, waving them goodbye before catching up to Bonnie.

"Do you believe me?" Bonnie asked once Willow was next to her. "I– I think you're worried, and you're trying to protect her." Willow responded, making Bonnie sigh as they walked in silence for the next few moments. Willow wanted to believe Bonnie, and she did, and WIllow knew there was some truth to her mother's old stories, and she was just hoping it wasn't Stefan.

⎯⎯⎯⎯

Willow sat bored in History class, she was taking down her notes– slowly. "World War II ended in?" Mr. Tanner asked the class but no one answered. "Anyone got anything?" he asked. "Miss Hale?" he asked, making Willow lift her head. "1945." she answered. "Correct," he responded. "Pearl Harbor?" Mr. Tanner asked but once again, no one answered. "Miss Gilbert?" Mr. Tanner asked, making her turn away from Stefan. "Hmm?" she hummed, "Pearl Harbor?" Mr. Tanner asked. "Um..." she trailed off, not knowing. "December 7, 1941." Stefan answered .

"Thank you Miss Gilbert." Mr. Tanner said sarcastically as the class laughed, Willow along with them. "Anytime." Stefan answered. "Very well." Mr. Tanner said. "The fall of the Berlin wall?" he asked. "1989. I'm good with dates, sir." Stefan answered. Willow decided that if Stefan wasn't the dangerous 'vampire' roaming around Mystic Falls, then he'd be perfect for Elena. "Are you? How good?" Mr. Tanner asked. "Keep it to the year." he added.

"Civil Rights Act?"
1964."

"John F. Kennedy assassination?"
"1963."

"Martin Luther King?"
"'68."

"Lincoln?"
"1865."

"Roe versus Wade?"
"1973."

"Brown versus Board?"
"1954."

"The battle of Gettysburg?"
"1863."

"Korean War?"
"1950 to 1953."

Throughout the entire time, Mr Tanner had walked towards Stefan, now he was almost in front of his desk. "Ha! It ended in '52." Mr. Tanner laughed, having thought he caught Stefan, he walked back to the front as he laughed. "Uh, actually, sir, it was '53." Stefan said, making Mr. Tanner turned to him. "Look it up, somebody." Mr. Tanner demanded. Willow quickly grabbed her phone from her pocket, quickly searching up the question. "It was 19... 53." Willow answered as she looked up from her phone as the class applauded Stefan.

⎯⎯⎯⎯

Bonnie and Willow were sitting outside, stretching, getting ready for cheer practice when Willow caught sight of Elena walking towards them, looking ready for cheer practice. "Oh my god! You're here!" Willow squealed excitedly as she and Bonnie jumped up and hugged Elena, who laughed. "Yep, I can't be sad girl forever, the only way to get things back to the way they were, are to do things that were." Elena said. "Oh, and you're both coming to dinner tonight." she added as she bent down.

"We are?" Bonnie and Willow asked in sync. "You, Willow, Me and Stefan." Elena said, making Bonnie give Elena a look as Willow snickered, knowing that was the last thing Bonnie wanted to do. "You have to give him a chance." Elena said and Willow sighed. "Tonight's no good." Bonnie tried making an excuse but Elena knew better and gave her a look. "Have you seen Caroline? I texted and called, but haven't heard from her." Willow said, changing  the subject.

"Don't try changing the subject Willow," Elena playfully glared at her before turning to Bonnie. "You're going to be there." she said, like it was final. "Fine. I'll go." Bonnie relented. "Good." Elena smiled, satisfied. "But guys, seriously, where is Caroline?" Willow asked, serious this time. Elena shrugged. "I don't know, it's not like her." she said. "I'll try her again." Bonnie said, picking up her phone and began ringing Caroline. "Uh..." Elena trailed off, pointing behind Bonnie and WIllow, making them turn to see Caroline in the passenger seat of a car.

"Oh, my god." Bonnie muttered. They saw her kiss the person driving. "That must be the mystery guy from the grill." Bonnie said. "That's not a mystery guy, that's Damon Salvatore." Elena informed them as they stood up. "Damon Salvatore? As in Stefan Salvatore?" Willow asked as Caroline got out of the car. "I got the other brother, hope you don't mind." Caroline sassaed as she walked past them.

"Sorry I'm late, girls, i, uh, was busy." Caroline said as Damon looked over at the girls, looking between Elena and Willow. "Alright, let's start with a double pike herkie hurdler, what do you say?." Caroline asked in cheer captain tone. A little bit later, the girls were practicing with their music playing. "One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight." Caroline counted as the girls did the routine, except for Elena.

"One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight." Caroline repeated as the girls continued doing the routine, but Elena was a bit off. "One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight." Caroline repeated. "Elena, sweetie, why don't you just observe today? Okay?" Caroline asked and Elena just sighed before walking off the side, Willow giving a sad smile. "Keep going! Okay. Do it again from the top." Caroline called out. "And five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight." Caroline counted as the girls did the routine.

⎯⎯⎯⎯

Willow was sitting at Elena's kitchen island as her and Bonnie got stuff ready for dinner, "You explain it. Last night i'm watching Nine-O, a commercial break came on and I'm like 'I bet it's that phone commercial' and sure enough it's the guy and the girl with the bench, he flies to Paris and he flies back, they take a picture." Bonnie explained, making Elena laugh. "Oh, come on, that commercial's on a constant loop." she said as she took food out of the bag. "She's kinda right." Willow agreed. "Fine. Well, how about this? Today I'm obsessed with numbers. Three numbers, I keep seeing eight, fourteen, and twenty-two, how weird is that." Bonnie asked.

"Maybe we should play the lottery." Elena said before laughing as Bonnie gave her a deadpanned look. "Why don't you talk to your grams?" Willow asked. "She's just gonna say it's because I'm a witch," Bonnie answered as they began putting the takeaway food into bowls. "I don't wanna be a witch, do you wanna be a witch?" she asked. "I don't wanna be a witch," Elena responded. "Wouldn't mind it," WIllow shrugged, better than being a werewolf, she thought.

"Also, putting this all into nice bowls isn't gonna fool anyone." she quipped, making Elena give her a pointed look. "Okay, serving spoons, where are the serving spoons?" Elena asked, looking around, trying to think of where they were. "Middle drawer on your left." Bonnie told her, pointing to a drawer, which Elena then opened, and pulled out the serving spoons.

"Okay, so you've been in this kitchen like a thousand times," Elena dismissed it while Willow looked at Bonnie curiously, maybe she was a witch, "Yea, that's it." Bonnie uttered before the doorbell rang. "Okay, he's here, don't be nervous, just be your normal loving self." Elena said, talking to herself before walking off to answer the door, leaving Willow and Bonnie in the kitchen. "Birthday candles." Bonnie said, making Willow look at her as she opened a drawer, and sat on top of a wine opener was birthday candles, making Bonnie scoff softly before looking at Willow who sighed.

⎯⎯⎯⎯

It was so awkward, Willow would rather be anywhere else. No one was talking, it was silent as they all ate. "Did Tanner give you a hard time today?" Elena asked Stefan, breaking the silence. "Well, he let me on the team, so.." he trailed off. "I must have done something right." he added, making Elena chuckle as she turned to Bonnie. "Bonnie, you should have seen Stefan today. Tyler threw a ball right at him, and–" She was cut off.

"Yeah, I heard." Bonnie said bluntly, making Willow press her lips into a thin line. "Why don't you tell Stefan about your family?" Elena offered to Bonnie, who gave a look. "Um, divorced. No mom. Live with my dad." Bonnie explained. "No, about the witches." Elena corrected, making Stefan look at her, which Willow noticed, he looked intrigued. "Bonnie's family has a lineage of witches, it's really cool." Elena explained, giving Bonnie a look.

"Cool isn't the word I'd use." Bonnie admitted but Elena kept giving her a look as Willow watched between them from where she sat next to Bonnie, like a tennis match, hoping she wouldn't have to talk about her family. "Well, it's certainly interesting." Stefan said, breaking the tension, making Bonnie look at him.

"I'm not too versed but I do know that there's a history of Celtic druids that migrated here in the 1800s," he said. "My family came by the way of Salem." Bonnie admitted. "Really? Salem witches?" he asked. "Yeah," Bonnie confirmed with a laugh and a smile, finally lighting up the mood. "I would say that's pretty cool." he admitted, making Elena smile.

"Really? Why" Bonnie asked. "Salem witches are heroic examples of individualism and nonconformity." he said, making Bonnie smile wide. "Yeah, they are." she said happily. "What about you?" he asked Willow, causing Bonnie and Elena to share a look as Willow looked down at her plate but before Willow could answer Elena's doorbell went off, "Oh thank god." she uttered.

"Wonder who that could be." Elena said as she put her fork down and got up from the table to answer the door. "Surprise!" They heard Caroline, making them look over to see her at the front door with Damon Salvatore behind her. "Bonnie said you were doing dinner so we brought dessert." Caroline said, "Oh." Elena laughed, "Hope you don't mind." Damon cut in as Caroline walked into the house, handing the dessert to Elena but Damon stayed outside.

Stefan got up and walked towards his brother as Bonnie and WIllow watched from the table, having stood up, but not walked towards everyone. "Waiting for Elena to invite me in." Damon said. "Oh, yeah, you–" Elena started but  Stefan stopped her. "No, no, no. he, he can't, uh... he can't stay." Stefan said, confusing everyone, except for his brother. "Can you Damon?" he asked his brother. "Get in here." Caroline demanded. "We're just finishing up." Stefan said hoping Elena wouldn't invite him in. "It's fine, just come on in." Elena said, inviting Damon into her house. Damon smiled towards his brother before stepping past Stefan, into the house. "You have a beautiful home, Elena." Damon complimented her. "Thank you." She said,

⎯⎯⎯⎯

"I cannot believe that Mr. Tanner let you on the team." Caroline said with a laugh. "Uh, Tyler must be seething but good for you, go for it." she added. "That's what I always tell him, you have to engage, you can't just sit out and wait for life to come to you, you have to go get it." Damon said. Willow narrowed her eyes at him. "Yeah, Elena wasn't so lucky today, it's only because you missed summer camp." Caroline said. "God, I don't know how you're ever gonna learn the routines." she said, having no sensitivity.

"We'll work with her, she'll get it." Willow offered, gesturing between her and Bonnie who nodded in agreement. "I guess we can put her in the back." Caroline muttered. "Hey, you know, you don't seem like the cheerleading type, Elena." Damon pointed out. "Oh, it's just 'cause her parents died, Willow was the same way." Caroline said, making Willow suck in a deep breath. "Yeah, I mean she's just totally going through a blah phase, she used to be way more fun." she continued, talking about Elena.

Willow and Bonnie gave her glares. "And I say that with complete sensitivity." she added. "I'm sorry Elena, you too Willow, I know what it's like to both your parents, in fact, Stefan and I have watched almost every single person we've ever cared about die." Damon said, causing Willow's heart to leap, she may think Damon might be weird and Bonnie's bad feeling about Stefan, but no one deserved to lose the people they cared about.

"We don't need to get into that right now, Damon." Stefan cut in. "Oh, you know what, you're right, Stef, I'm sorry, I... Last thing I wanted to do was bring her up." Damon apologised, but Willow could tell it was fake. It was now awkward, the underlying notice that he was talking about another girl, who mattered to Stefan. It wasn't long before Elena went to clean up, Willow volunteering to help.

"One more." Damon said as he entered the kitchen with a glass, after Elena and Willow had packed the dishwasher and cleaned everything. "Oh, thank you." Elena siad, going to grab it but it fell, but Damon caught it in time, making Elena gasp and laugh. "Nice save." she said before grabbing it from him. "I like you. You know how to laugh." Damon said, moving to lean against the counter.

Willow watched from her spot at the kitchen island. "And you make Stefan smile which is something I haven't seen in a very long time." he admitted. "Earlier, did you mean... Katherine?" she asked as she went to put a plate in the dishwasher but Damon grabbed it and did it for her. "Mm-hm." he hummed. "How did she die?" Elena asked. "In a fire, tragic fire." Damon answered, making Willow swallow thickly as she felt Elena looking over at her before back at Damon.

"Recently?" Willow asked, looking up at him, making him look at her. "Seems like it was yesterday," he answered. "What was she like?" Elena asked. "She was beautiful. A lot like you in that department." he responded. "She was also very complicated and selfish and at times, not very kind but very sexy and seductive," he added. "So which one of you first dated her first?" Willow asked, making him chuckle as he helped Elena with putting the plates in the dishwasher.

"Nicely deduced." he complimented. "Ask Stefan, I'm sure his answer differs from mine." he told them as he shut the dishwasher before Elena moved to help Willow fold placemats and soon enough Damon was as well as she sat down next to Willow. "I'd quit cheerleading if I were you." he said to Elena. "Why do you say that?" she asked. "Oh, I saw you at practice, you looked miserable." Damon said. "I hate to agree, but he's right, you looked like you wanted to be anywhere but there." Willow said.

"You saw that?" Elena asked. "Uh-huh." Damon nodded. "I used to love it, it was fun. Things are different this year. Everything that used to matter doesn't anymore." she explained and Willow understood how she felt. She felt like that after the fire. "So don't let it. Quit, move on, problem solved ta-da." Damon advised. "Some things could matter again." Elena said. "Maybe, but... seems a little unrealistic to me." Damon said and it was silent between the three of them for a while before Willow spoke up.

"I'm sorry." she said, making Damon look at her, confused. "For what?" he asked. "About Katherine. You lost her too." she responded, making Damon's face soften slightly, "I understand what it's like to lose the ones you care about, like that." she said, and Elena gave her a sad look. "Parents?" he asked. "Almost my entire family." she answered, shocking him before Bonnie walked into the kitchen. "Hey, need some help?" she asked.

⎯⎯⎯⎯

When Willow got home from Elena's that night, Derek and Laura were still up. They were sitting on the couch watching some horror movie. She took her shoes off and dumped her jacket on the chair in the corner before she entered the living room, altering her siblings to her arrival home. "Hey, how was the dinner?" Laura asked. "Good, meet Stefan's older brother Damon." she answered as she moved to sit between her brother and sister, who moved a made room for her.

"Really?" Derek asked, not looking away from the t.v. "Yeah," she said as she rested her head against the back of the couch before looking at Derek then at Laura, smiling softly before resting her head on Laura's shoulder, making her older sister smile down at her before wrapping an arm around her as the family of three continued to watch the movie.

⎯⎯⎯⎯

Willow was with Caroline the next night as the cheerleaders cheered, shaking the red and black pom poms around as Mr. Tanner tried to quieten everyone down. "Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Wait! Wait, wait, wait." Mr. Tanner said, holding his hands up trying to quiet the crowd of students, cheerleaders, players. "Wait. Let's be honest here, In the past, we used to let other teams come into our town and roll right over us!" he said, the microphone echoing his words, the crowd booing at what he said.

"But that is about to change." he said, and everyone cheered as Willow shook her pom poms in the air. "We've got some great new talent tonight starting on offense and I'm gonna tell you right now it has been a long time since I have seen a kid like this with hands like these," he said and everyone cheered. "Let's give it up for Stefan Salvatore." He called out and everyone cheered once again.

"All you fans that have been waiting for us to put a check in the win column, I have only one thing to say to you. We're Timberwolves, we're hungry." he finished and everyone cheered, louder than ever but soon enough the  sound of fighting alerted everyone behind them, where everyone's cars were, Willow made her way through the crowd to Elena. "What's going on?" she asked. "No idea." Elena answered as the two of them walked forward to see what's going on just to see Jeremy, Elena's little brother on the floor and Stefan and Tyler standing up.

They saw Jeremy reach for a broken beer bottle that was on the floor. "Jeremy, no!" Elena yelled as Jeremy raised the glass towards Tyler, who was about to punch Stefan, but Stefan pushed him and his fist away, just in time for Jeremy to slice his hand with the beer bottle shard, making Willow suck in a breath, because that was going to hurt like hell.

The crowd gasped just as Matt moved Tyler away. "Get off! Stop!" Matt yelled at him as Elena rushed towards Jeremy and Willow moved slowly towards them. "What the hell, Jeremy?" Elena asked as she pushed her brother back. Willow looked over at Stefan and saw him looking at his hand that was bleeding before moving towards the Gilberts. "Put his head up, he's bleeding." Willow advised and Elena followed and tried to move her brother's head.

But, Jeremy pushed Elena's hands off. "I'm fine!" he snapped. "Yeah, you smell fine." Elena sassed. Willow scrunched up her nose, since her werewolf senses were better than a human, the alcohol smelled worse. "Just stop, okay?" Jeremy sneered at Elena before walking off as Matt pushed Tyler away again, "Come on, man. Come on." he said, pushing him away.

"Oh, my god, your hand." Elena said, rushing over to Stefan,, as Willow followed her, wanting to make sure he was alright. Elean tried taking his hand but he closed and moved it. "No, no, no, it's fine." Stefan insisted, causing Willow to furrow her brows, she saw his hand bleeding, she could smell it. "Is it deep? How bad is it?" Elena continued to fire off questions as she grabbed his hand.

"Come on!" Elena said, opening Stefan's closed fist, revealing no cut whatsoever, and no fresh blood, making Willow's heart drop and Elena to move her hands away in shock. "But... I saw it, it was–" Elena stuttered. "He missed, it's not my blood." Stefan said before wiping his hands on his jeans. "See, I'm fine," he said. "No, no, no. I, I saw it, the glass cut your hand, it was–" Elena insisted, not believing it. "It's okay, I'm okay." Stefan assured her.

Willow crossed her arms, she knew werewolves healed, but not that quick, not like a vampire, like the ones she grew up hearing from her mother and grandmother. "It's almost kick-off time, alright, so, um, I'll, uh, I'll see you after the game." Stefan said before walking away, leaving Willow and Elena standing there. "I saw him bleeding Elena." Willow said, making Elena look over at her before Willow walked off back to the cheerleaders before the game started, but she knew one thing. Stefan wasn't human, which meant, neither was his brother.

Later that night, Willow stood with her brother and sister as they watched the police take away Mr. Tanner's body in a body-bag. He was dead, he had been killed. "We need to talk once we get home." Willow said to them, making them look over at her, they noticed the seriousness of her tone, and they nodded
