Scientist: We're doomed.

???: We have no choice to accept it. But we have a pod right here... We could send a human to the future. And continue human life. 

Scientist: The other laboratories also have pods like this. We have at least 5 or more pods like this scattered around the world.

???: Okay then. I'll go home now. Take care all of you.

Humanity's reign of this planet is gonna end soon. We haven't even started to build the spaceship towards Mars. We have no choice to use this life pods we've been pouring our budget on for near 10 years...

At the parking lot of the laboratory...

???: *goes in the car* ... *then hears something*

???: *checks his phone* ...

It's a phone call. From my wife. What's she got this time?

Brooks's Mother: Have you brought the school supplies for Brooks?

I better be quick about this. My son Brooks is only at Kindergarten. So i don't feel like he needs so much stuff. Just some papers and pencil right?

Brooks's Father: *locks the car's door* ... *put his keys in his pocket*

I started walking in a thick crowd to the school supplies and there's so much people buying also. Well, it is the 1st week of the school year. And my son has been losing his pencil so much. I've probably told that kid to be responsible.

Brooks's Father: *gets to the school supplies store* ...

Store Clerk: Good afternoon sir! What do you wanna buy?

Brooks's Father: Uh... I want 2 one wholes of paper. And a Dixon Ticonderoga #2. 

Store Clerk: A whole case of it?

Brooks's Father: Yeah sure.

I immediately went back to my car and went home.. God, i'm really hungry from the experiments and the revelation before i went home...

Brooks: *writing on a sheet of paper* ... *sees his mom go in the room* 

Mother: Hello! What are you drawing? 

Brooks: Nothing. I'm only um... Drawing our house.

Mother: Oh? Can i see it?

Brooks: *hands her the paper* ...

Mother: *sees the drawing* What a nice drawing! Good work son. *impressed*

Mother: *goes to his bag* ... *and puts the paper and pencil in his bag* *closes the bag*

Father: *from the dining room* Brooks! Come here, son! I have something for you.

Mother: Your dad is calling you son.

Brooks: Okay... *stands up from the floor* *and goes to the dining room*

At the dining room....

Brooks: What is it, dad?

Father: I have something to show you tomorrow. So... You need to tell your teacher that you need to go home early okay?

Father: I'll talk about this to you later sweetie but anyway, you'll tell them if they can allow you to go home early.

Brooks: Okay dad... 

Father: There we go, son. *kisses Brooks on the forehead*

Brooks: *closes his eyes* ... *starts sleeping*

Father's P. O. V

As i waited for my wife to come, i got a text again from my laboratory company.

Mother: Hey. What's the deal this time? What are you doing with our son?

Father: *puts his phone on the table* *sighs* I have something to say to you... And it's devastating...

Mother: What is it?

Father: You know the Arctic Icebergs?

Mother: Yes?

Father: It's all gonna melt tomorrow. And we're probably gonna be overrun with water tomorrow.

Mother: How could you be so sure?

Father: I wouldn't be sure myself either. But one of my laboratory company employees told me that the icebergs will all melt tomorrow.

Mother: *makes a sad face* ...

Father: I know. But this is our mistake. But. There's a solution. 

Mother: What is it?

Father: We've built a life pod that could last for thousands of years. We could put someone in there and push our life forward.

Mother: And you're using Brooks?! *gets angry*

Father: I trust my son. 

Mother: I cannot allow that. Whatever it costs.

Father: Are you naive? This is for the continuation of our humanity beyond tens of thousands of years.

Mother: *falls silent* ...

Father: Plus, do you want to see him drown? Or grow up in a new future of humanity? 

Mother: It's... Just... *starts tearing up* What have could we've done as humanity to prevent this "ocean levels rising" issue. The media warned everyone, but no one ever listened.

Father: But it's the reality of the situation... There's no "what-if's" now. We have to do it in order to push humanity forward.

Mother: But... He's so young. And i don't want him gone so early. He's only 7 years old. He has a lot more grow upon.

Father: But he's not gonna do it in this world. He's gonna do it in a submerged world. And i know he'll grow to be a perfect man.

Mother: Fine... I'll tell the teachers tomorrow of his school that he'll be absent...

Father: Yeah. Thank you for listening and understanding me. 

Mother: It's no problem... I see your points you've said were valid.

Father: Get ready to pack tomorrow too. We're going somewhere where it's safe. I'll not leave you behind also.

Mother: Okay... I'll go to sleep now. Good night sweetie. *kisses Father on the lips* 

Father: You too hon. *stands up from the chair* *and goes to his room*

Inside Father's room...

Father: This is probably the last night for humanity... *murmurs to himself* Might as well stay up all night. And might as well pack my stuff...

I grabbed the duffel bags i used on vacations a few years ago with my wife. When my son was 4 years old. We went to Japan. The place was so beautiful... But now, it's gonna be nothing but water. The theory is that Earth might have a few more spaces of land left. But i don't wanna believe it no more. It's the end. We caused this ourselves. So we pay for our mistakes than we made.

Father: *grabs 2 XL duffel bags* ... *gets his clothes, valuables, etc.*

After a hour and a half of stuffing things in his bag later...

Father: If this is the last night... Might as well not sleep. I could do so much at this time. *gets up from his bed and grabs the picture frames of the family*

I will miss you, Prince Brooks... And i'm sure your mother would think the same too. Hope you discover that there's still land. To make that theory true. And after that, You could rebuild humanity from there... It's gonna be a whole new world for him...

Father: *takes out the picture from the frame*  ... *makes a sad face*

And whoever he meets from the other life pods that the world made, hope they would work together to reach a common goal. Survival.

Father: *puts the picture in one of the bags* ... *and puts one on his jacket*

And... I just wish for the best for my son. I want him to be alive long enough to experience everything life has to offer. Problems, blessings, miracles, tragedy, and fulfillment... And me and my wife will be watching my kid go through the roughest of times... Finding solutions.. And at least find love. He will probably be really lonely for the first decade of his new life in the submerged world. Hope he finds someone that he loves and willing to sacrifice for.

Father: *smiles* ...

Plus, what am i being sad about? This is my son. He was born to be in a bad situation. And getting out of it. I know that my son could establish humanity again in the far, far, future.

Father: *goes to the bathroom and wash his face* ...

After a face-wash later...

Father: *goes out of the bathroom with a towel between his neck* ... *dries his face with a towel*

Brooks: *gets woken up by his mother* ...

Mother: I've told the school that you would not go today...

Brooks: I-i thought.. *yawns loudly* I'm still going to school.

Mother: Don't worry hon. I told the teachers. And they accepted it.

Brooks: Okay...

Mother: I already got your stuff ready... Come on. Let's get breakfast, and let's go.

Brooks: *goes off of his bed* ... *goes to the dining room*

Mother: Chicken and waffles.

Brooks: Thanks! *puts his chicken with the rice* *and continues demolishing the waffles*

Brooks: Good morning to dad! *stops eating and looked at his father*

Father: How's the breakfast?

Brooks: It's really good! You should try it!

Father: I already ate that earlier son. It was delicious.

Mother: *smiles at Father* ...

Father: You need to be quick about that food. And you need to take a shower and dress up. And let's go to the place i'm gonna show you.

Mother: Get in Brooks. We have a long way to go from our house.

Brooks: Are we going on vacation? 

Father: Kinda. *opens the garage door remotely*

Father: Yes i did. When's the water gonna get here?

Scientist: 5 hours left. 

Father: Good. I'll leave the kid to you. Me and my wife will go to the mountains to at least survive that wave for a bit.

Scientist: Okay then. Do you trust me with that kid?

Father: Of course. Just make that kid safe. I want him to be the one who will shape our future of humanity.

Scientist: Okay then. Bring him in.

Father: Brooks! Come here, son.

Brooks: *runs at his dad* Dad! What do you want?

Father: Me and your mother are going somewhere. We kinda forgot something. So. I'll leave you here.

Brooks: Will you be quick?

Father: It's not gonna be long. 

Brooks: Okay... See you! 

Father: Good-bye Brooks...  *kisses Brooks on the cheek* Take care alright? You'll need it.

After a bit of hugging, we started making our leave... I'm so sorry Brooks. If me and your mother's exit was a heart-breaking one. I really didn't want it to happen. But it has come to this. So... I can't do anything about it anymore.

Father: *leaves the laboratory* ...

Mother: *leaves the laboratory also* So, where are we going sweetie?

Father: Mt. Bona. 

A-kun: It's A Real Mountain Look It Up.

Mother: That's quite a distance.

Father: But we have 5 hours to get to a good elevation point. So don't worry too much.

Father: *frowns* I know. It really hurts to see him go before our eyes. But he'll be a hero someday... *goes in the car*

We've got to a good height in Mt. Bona. But it's not gonna be probably enough. As i see the waves crashing in... Bigger than i ever imagined.

Father: Let's keep going up. The wave is gonna get here soon. *starts climbing again*

Mother: Okay. *climbs also*

At the laboratory...

Scientist: Look buddy, you to go in now.

Brooks: Why?

Scientist: This place is gonna be filled with water right now. I want you to be safe. And this life pod is super safe also.

Brooks: Give me a candy first!

Scientist: Fine. *grabs a candy from the jar and gives it to Brooks*

Brooks: Thanks! *takes the candy again* *and goes in the life pod*

Scientist: Thank you for cooperating... Now, we'll start the "Time Freeze" Sleeping Mechanism... *closes the door* *locks it*

Brooks: *looks around the life pod* ...

This looks cool... Futuristic feel... And it's filled with oxygen tanks and a breather. And there's some bottled water here too!

Scientist: I've already started the countdown. Wish this boy the best luck. He'll absolutely need it.

They got to the top. But probably won't last either. This is the end of the reign of humanity. And Brooks slept peacefully as chaos ensues the outside world..
