How it all started

It was a day as any other day, the sun was shining bright, birds were chirping happily and my tomcat Tobby wanted an attention by loud meowing. I was in the world that didn't accept my wonders and questions.

So the Reality that was that one that was here now. On this side, all of my understandings as to how the world is functioning and its rules has been misplaced. Nothing make it easy to understand how the more complicated side worked. I tried, but end up with finding an understanding in the World behind that was hidden.

So neither Reality or The world behind suit me, that's why I decided to live Inbetween, where I can reach both side at the same time.

Usually, I let out more of The hidden world influence when I draw, create things or imagining something.

I know not that much important stuff I said over there, but there is something important. When I draw I always release a little bit of the influence that the hidden world can afford, people call it "imagination", "ideas", "creativity" or "talent" sometimes a people who draw, write or do creative stuff get "artist block" they call it like that because it's easier for them. The truth is that they closed the door fully and the influence of the World behind can't seep through, it can cause stress or when you begin to dislike what you are using the influence for.

This is the reason why such a thing happened.

That day I was in my room drawing with pencil and making a base for my drawing. My mom was in the kitchen preparing lunch and dad was laying on the couch and reading newspapers. just a day like any other. But it wasn't the truth. After I finished my doodle and was actually happy with it I reached for a sharpie and colors. I was drawing my character I created in my 10 years, she was stuck with me since that very day and developed over time.

I always had problems with colors thought. A pencil drawing? No problem! Sharpie?? Uh... I can deal with this! I made good help lines so these will turn out well! Colors??? Well... let's see how it will turn out today! The key was to always stay cheery and optimistic, something bad happened? Just reach to the hidden side and see the good from it. It is possible that I didn't know what I was doing, but I thought if I could open the door just a little bit more, maybe it would let me use the colors right. And I did try.

"Few lines here, and a long line there making her fur more fluffy and done!" I was done and I was satisfied with what I made. The colors fit right and all three were my favorite ones: Blue, purple and white.

It did work a little bit better with the doors opened a little bit wider and more influence to my aid. Smiling I stand up from my lying position on the floor where I was surrounded by neatly pile up papers and nicely straighten up drawing tools.  I actually planned to try and use acryl paint but didn't need that.

My back hurt a little from being in the same position for so long and as I stretched I was rewarded with popping sound and the pressure lessened considerably.

After a moment I heard my mom calling everybody to dining room. Or more like dining room fused with livingroom together in one big room.

After lunch, we decided to play board games. My little sister insisted that I should play with her so I did and we had a great time! Then we cleaned up after ourselves and almost all family members left for a little trip by bike. I stayed home, my head was hurting again and all I needed was a moment without any sound or heat striking right at my head. Decided that it was a good idea to sit down for a while and close my eyes for a bit. I probably used more than I was supposed to...again. It will be fine after few minutes of this bliss silence.

As I finished that thought a very noisy sound tore through the house. It was as if you knocked over things on the desk and let it fall on the floor. I wouldn't be scared if I knew that could be my sister.

But it couldn't be anyone I know, because everyone was on the trip... and I was home alone. Shaking I crawled into the kitchen looking for something I could use in my defense if that someone tries to hurt me. Picking up a rolling pin and bringing it with me as I silently crawled to the door of my room. My thoughts were racing. What happened? Who could it be? I didn't saw or heard anyone enter my room... I had closed eyes for a minute, nobody can be THAT fast...

I gathered all the courage I have left, trying to ignore that silhouette lining behind my door's wiggly glass. It has to be done fast, so I will catch them off guard. I could rethink it several more times, but I wouldn't have had the guts to encounter whoever was in my and my sister's room. So I did what I did. I grabbed the doorknob and opened it fast enough so I already had my weapon of choice ready to strike down the intruder.

What I wasn't expecting was a yelping sound and no one to be seen. What was even less expected was my paint splattered on the walls, floor, and papers. Everything was in a huge mess! The floor was full of scattered paper, pencils randomly were thrown across it and colorful footprints on top of it all! My drawing was nowhere to be seen, there was one paper fully covered in the colorful mess that made my paint tubes probably my drawing... I have to make that again...

Wait... My thoughts halted. I did realize that there were footprints across all the mess, but only now I noticed what was wrong with them. They weren't human footprints, not even other creature, but a cat's paws that were leading under my bed, where all of the spiders were.

Yuck! Spiders... I hate spiders!  However, if Tobby was in my room I needed to lure him out of his hiding spot. If dad will find this out I will be in a big trouble, but not as big as my sweetheart. Shaking my head determined to stay calm and collected. I sit in front of my bed and started talking to him to calm him down, no wonder I startled him like that. I would run to hide as well...

"Come on sweetie, come here. I am sorry that I scared you like that, but you scared me a lot first... I thought some thief or robber sneak in here." I said in small voice and kept repeating luring motion with my fingers wiggling to his direction. It had no such effect. I must have had scared him really badly...

Sighing I lie down, peaked under my bed and get up quickly enough to bang my head in the table I was under. It wasn't Tobby's warm yellow eyes and loving gaze. These eyes were purple, with slits for its pupils and scared beyond belief.

I didn't knew what to do, because I never saw anything like that... or did I? Turning on my phone flashlight I directed the beam of light where I saw the eyes and what I saw left my mouth wide open in shock.

Under my bed was my creation, shaking in fear and bewilderment as she stared at me. It took a while for me to regain my cool composure. I smiled softly at the creature but didn't make any move towards her. I knew it would only frighten her even more.

"Kate is that you?" I asked a totally stupid question, but I needed to be sure because this won't happen to you every day. And even who lives Inbetween would be in shock.

The creature stilled, but then hesitantly nodded. I smiled at her act, it was a good sign, she will pull through.

"Don't worry, I will not hurt you, sweetie. I apologize for that incident... I wasn't expecting something like this to happen. Do you remember me?" I said, trying to calm down my little creation enough for her to crawl out of her hiding space.

The Fear in her eyes melted into confusion, then shock and the last changed into recognization. An eager nod was tanswer. Good, I managed to calm her down. I thought as I smiled gratefully. It didn't take too long for her to crawl out and sweep all the spiderwebs on her way. I shuddered a bit at that thought that I will have to clean that up from her.

She still had the confusion playing in her eyes, but curiosity took over. I didn't move and let her come really close to me. She smelled me and then looked into my eyes as if she was searching for something. Then she smiled at me and tiny voice made its way out.

"Mommy?"

I was actually shocked to hear her talk to me, but that shock quickly changed into glee. "Yes sweetie, it's me," I said smiling. The next thing I knew was that she jumped in my hands and let herself calm down fully in my embrace. Soft purring was heard as I gently pet her head and back. I had no idea how that happened or what caused it. It was hard to focus on my little creation resting soundly on my lap and process everything that had happened.

What caused it? What was different? There has to be a way to found out! Maybe I can ask Kate, she may know what happened.

I nudged her head gently as she whined and lifted her head to look at me. Now or never. "Kate... yo you know what happened? What brought you in?" I asked her and rubbed the back of my head in embarrassment.

It took her some time to answer, but she eventually found the words.

"I remember you drawing me and then you left, but this time I felt something pulling me out. I deeply apologize for that mo- creator." She answered and at that chose for that last word, her ears were pulled back. I knew that she was upset now, but didn't quite understood anything that had happened now. Why is she calling me creator? Then it dawned on me, I created her! Her personality too, so I know her better than anyone. She probably thought that I would be mad for her calling me that.

I pet her head and smiled "You can call me whatever you like, even mommy I don't mind and I am glad that you are here, just surprised me that's all" I said and saw her eyes lighten up in delight. "Thank you, mommy!" She squealed and press herself against me even more.

I was thinking about what Kate told me 'Something pulling me out'. It didn't make any sense I did everything like I always do. Just let the door open only for a little bit and let it help me.

I snapped out of my thoughts fairly quickly as I remembered that they will be here any moment now. And our room was a mess! How they would react when they come into our room and see all of this mess and me with my creation nuzzling me happily. I have to be quick, like a lot!

I took Kate from my lap with her whining of protest and put her on my bed. I emerged from the room and came back with a bucket half-full with a mixture of water and detergent. Then the big cleaning could start I grabbed all papers and stuffed them into a lonely box in the corner of the room. Luckily most of the paint was on the papers. I begin to sweep everything with a wet rug like a madman to make it in time.

After ten minutes the room was relatively clean, now I have to clean that little rascal that made all this mess. I took her to the bathroom and cleaned her up from all the dust and spiderwebs. She protested a little while, but then gave up and let me clean her up. Once finished I began to think what now.

"Kate, what will I do? I like your presence here, but my family knows you only on paper, I don't think it would be a good idea to show yourself to them." I began, but she smiled an shook head.

"I know mommy, you made me, after all, we are alike. But I can hide really good. I learned a "hiding cloak" spell from the influence. Only those who you want to see me and interact with me could do so, others won't be able." She said and waved her tail smoothly from side to side.

I didn't have the time to reply back as I heard my hyperactive sister squealing in delight. "Cath! That was absolutely amazing!! You should come with us." She pouted at me for a while and then run to her parents giggling happily. I looked inconspicuously to my left side where Kate resided, she was watching my little sister and then she crawled on my back and lie down across my shoulders.

"I think I managed that spell pretty good over the time." She told me, clearly pleased with herself. I smiled and patted her on the head when nobody was watching.

"I think we will have a lot of adventures happening from now on. What do you say, little buddy?" I said quietly to her and saw her nod.

"Catherine? Did you said anything?" Mom poked her head from around the corner and lifted her eyebrow at me.

'ooops' I thought and chuckled softly. "Yes I was saying that we could play some more board games" I answered. Mom smiled at me and told me to pick the game. Nicol, my little sister run to our room shouting that she will get it faster.  When I wasn't running after her immediately she poked her head from the room pouting at me. "Come on! Sis today was boring just play along!" She whined, but then yelped once I made a fast movement towards the door with a playful expression. I stopped in the place giggling.

I looked at kate from the corner of my eye "Hehe sure little sister whatever you say." I said winking at Kate as she did the same to me. "Whatever you say."
