My Review of Fire Emblem Three Houses (NO SPOILERS)
My second review of a video game, where this time, I actually played it instead of just watching it from YouTube.
1. How I come across?
Considering I been a Fire Emblem fan since Awakening, I just happen to watch the trailer and got excited, but scared considering the story, especially concerning Awakening and Fates. Don't get the wrong idea, I enjoyed Fates and Awakening, but after watching other games... it makes me wish the stories are better developed.
2. Summary
It's a JRPG Tactical-Strategy game that is only on the Nintendo switch. You play a mercenary named Byleth (You can choose any name and pick a gender, but that's it) where you ended up becoming a teacher for one of the three houses; the Black Eagles lead by Edelgard, the Blue Lions led by Dimitri and finally, the Golden Deers led by Claude.
3. My opinion
Because I was so cautious, I tried not to expect too much from the game and holy shit, I was honestly blown away from how amazing the routes and the main cast are.
For the story, at first, they have basically have the same basic plot points at first, then later on, it becomes drastically different and it's where the story become much more interesting as well as morally complex. I want to try to avoid spoiling anything, but let's just say... shit is about to go down!
For the characters, I loved the majority of the main cast, especially the students. I love how they're more to them then simple tropes, such as Sylvain, who seems like the typical pervert from previous games (Gatrie, Inigo etc). Though, there are a few characters I don't care for, like Cyril and Rhea as... well... I wouldn't say bad characters... I just dislike them. Other then those two, I thought they're great.
For the gameplay, I love how much freedom the game gives you, since in the previous games, it's either you can't change your units to a different class unless it's promoting them or have a few options to change them to (Etc Awakening), But in 3TH, you can make anybody into anything... through the class system is questionable, like making Dark mages a male-only class.
Tharja, Nyx & Ophelia - "Bitch, what?!"
Exactly! Male only! Same goes with pegasus knights, except it's female only.
Subuki - "They're already forgot about me?!"
I wouldn't be surprise if they did, but yeah... there's also grapplers and the hero class being also Male-only.
Severa - "Excuse me, what?!! Are they stupid?!"
I know, I know. But hey, at least they're aren't too many students. I mean, you get eight students at the start unless you're recruiting others from other houses by tea time, dinner and all that good stuff.
The map designs are... mmm... I don't care too much about it, but there are some I just hate though. I can't say which to avoid spoilers. I enjoyed using the new additions like battalions/gambits and, while I like the concept, it's honestly a pain in the ass to deal with the monsters. Thank god there's gambits.
So, this is my review. It's honestly a very good game with so much to do and, with three different path ways meaning three different experiences. I strongly recommend this game if you have a Nintendo switch and enjoy tactical strategy games, but if you don't have a Nintendo switch, then either buy one or watch a let's play of it.
Heck, even my favourite let's player, NicoB, is playing it right now, so it's a awesome enough game if you ask me. It's pretty popular right now, so I strongly recommend playing it or watching a let's play of it.
You guys can request a review where either I play it, or just simply watch it. Of course, it would have to be cater to my interest or else I'll just fall asleep, so just give me the title and summary so that it MIGHT catch my interest, but no promises.
Also, keep in mind that the only consoles I have is a PS4, Nintendo Switch and 3DS where, if the games you requested is only Xbox or something, then I will just watch. Not play it.
I hope you guys enjoy this review and if you did, leave a vote, comment and have a good day, my guild.
