Chapter 51

I can’t focus on a single task for too long during the day, not because I’m malfunctioning, but because I’m too excited for the triple date tonight. Biana made us a reservation at a fancy restaurant, then I found a romantic place to watch the sun set. Sophie didn’t get to choose anything because she and Keefe weren’t originally even going to come. My afternoon is spent wandering from pasture to pasture, trying to be helpful, but not doing a great job of it. Then it’s time to pursuade Sophie to dress up nicely for this.
“Come on. It’s a fancy restaurant. And you can wear leggings underneath.”
“Do I really have to?”
“For me?”
“Fine. But it can’t be too long or frilly.”
“Deal.” I hurry off into her closet to find something. But she mostly has tunics and leggings, not dresses or skirts. “Looks like you’re borrowing one of my things.” I tell her, walking to my closet. Soon, I find a dress I’ve enver even worn that will look amazing on her. It’s about knee length, and dosen’t even have any frills on the skirt. It’s sleeveless, and would pair nicely with a pearl necklace. It’s a light purple color that will make the brown in her eyes stand out. I hand it to her, and go to pick out my own dress. This will be a great time to wear the one I got with Edaline when I first came here. It has a skirt that falls much longer on one side than the other, and has tule in a bunch of pretty colors. It was purple and teal and blue, and it made me feel like how humans think of mermaids. I put it on, and I love it.
“Ready to go yet?” Sophie asks me a few minutes later.
“I’m almost done with my makeup.”
“And this is why I don’t bother with makeup.”
“Shut up.”
“Hurry up.”
“I’m done.” I say, a few minutes later.
“Took you long enough. We’re meeting at the restaurant.” So me, Sophie, and Keefe all leap to the restaurant in Atlantis, where Biana, Tam, and Dex are all waiting.
“Sorry. Are we late?” I ask.
“Not at all. We were just all early.” Dex says. “By the way, you look amazing.”
“Thanks. You too.” We go in the restaurant, and Dex was right. Our reservation won’t be ready for another tem minutes.
“Your seats are ready.” One of the waitresses tells us. “It’s right this way.” She leads us to a booth, just big enough for three of us to squeeze on one side. It ended up being girls one one side, and boys on the other. We talk and laugh, and joke around. The food is good, but not as good as it was to spend time with my boyfriend, best friend, and sister at once. Then we go to a field somewhere, and watch the sun set. Each couple has their own blanket that they spread out. Me and Dex are on ours, only half paying attention to the sunset.
“This is nice.” I whisper. Honestly, nice doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel right now.
“It is.” He leans in and gives me a kiss. I kiss him back, and try to capture every detail in my mind. I want to remember this forever.

The End
