Chapter 3
"WHAT?!" Is the general cry from the elves around me. Ok. I hadn't thought this far ahead. How the heck do I explain this?
"I think Grady and Edaline should be here," the new girl says. "I'll hail them."
"NO. NOT GRADY." I reply, terrified.
"Why not?" The new girl asks me.
"the guilt... Jolie... And me..." I reply, almost shaking. The Guilt of losing his daughter, Jolie, and later when the Neverseen had kidnapped me and Dex and made everyone believe we were dead, had shattered his mind.
"ok," She says after reviving a glare from Elwin. "I'll hail Edaline." Some of the panic eases, and I sink back into my pillow.
"I have a few questions for you, if you don't mind." Alden says. I count to 17, and reply.
"ok."
"First of all, where did the machine you crashed here come from?"
"That's how I got to this universe. It was made by... One of the best technopaths to ever live. The plan was for him to come with me, but... The Neverseen found us..." My breathing got shallower as I realized that no one was asking me who the Neverseen were. That means that they are here too. As I start to panic, Elwin gives me another serum and I feel the calm rush over me.
“Oh!” The new girl gasps.
“What?” I ask. Did I say something wrong?
“Nothing, it’s just… your eyes are green.” Oh. My weird eyes. Then I notice that hers are brown.
“Not to be rude, but, you don’t exactly have normal elf eyes either.” Most elves had eyes in various shades of blue, but since I was a genetic experiment, mine were weirdly green.
I can tell Alden's about to ask another question, but then Edaline, my adoptive mother, walks into the room. I know she doesn't know me, but I can't help but say "mom..." when she walks in. I can't help but stare at all the people around me as Alden catches Edaline up. I can't help but let out a small sob at all the familiar faces who don't know me. Who have no memory of what we went through, good or bad. Elwin gives me another serum, and I decide to ask for some answers to my questions. I ask a lot of things, yet somehow not all of them, and it seems that our universes are exactly the same, except for that I'm not here, and instead the new girl, whose name turned out to be Sophie, is. And I have no indication that there is a version of Dex here, but I don't mention that. It also seems that there is another ability in my world. A very dangerous one that I was lucky enough to manifest as. I'm a seeker. What I can do is see what anyone in the world is doing. I send my consciousness out and it's as if I'm in the room. And nobody here will be able to detect me since they don't know about it. Originally, this was a flaw in my code. A risk we weren't supposed to take. But it has ended up being a valuable tool. The ability is not only rare as inflicting, which I can also do along with telepathy and being a polyglot, but whenever you use it, there is a high chance that it will shred your consciousness. I was extremely lucky. Most young elves who manifest don't know how to root their conciseness like I did, and accidentally use it when they aren't prepared. It's a tragedy. Then Bronte joins the conversation and brings up that I'll need a tribunal to decide my fate, I start to panic. While most of the councilors have been good to me most of the time, I've still had plenty of bad experiences with them. And this is a whole new universe. Will they treat me the same? Elwin informs me that I can't have any more calm serum, and that I need to rest. He sends everyone out, and I somehow fall back asleep almost immediately.
