110. Lan-Er-Gege

In case they ran into any cultivators searching the area if they walked on main paths, the two of them only chose remote, countryside paths on their journey. A day later, Wei WuXian felt somewhat tired and thirsty. As they happened to see a farmhouse by the side of the road, Lan WangJi halted Lil’ Apple.

After they had knocked, nobody answered. When they pushed, the door opened on its own. A handmade wooden table was in the center of the yard, and a bowl of beans that hadn’t been entirely peeled was on the table. A tall mountain of straws stood by the dirt wall, a rake sticking out of it. All over the ground, chicks chirped as they picked at the rice, running around.

"Since no one's there, why did you enter?" asked MianMian.

"Why do you think?" asked Wei Wuxian.

"You shouldn't enter without the permission of an owner." said Lan Qiren.

"We can talk about it to the owner whenever we saw them." said Wei Wuxian.

"Besides, we won't destroy their home." Wei Wuxian added.

"Still." said Lan Qiren.

"It's not a big problem. Lets move on." said Wei Wuxian with a grin.

Wei WuXian saw a few melons piled up in a corner of the yard. He walked over and picked one of them up, proposing in all seriousness, “The owner isn’t here. HanGuang-Jun, let’s suit ourselves.”

"That's not how it works, a-xian." said Jiang Yanli.

"Yeah, that's stealing." said Jin Zixuan.

"That's pretty normal." said Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli looked at him.

"What?" he asked.

"Don't tell me that you did something like that except on stealing foods from stalls of Yunmeng." said Jiang Yanli.

"Well." said Jiang Cheng and looked at Wei Wuxian.

"Way to get naked, ChengCheng." said Wei Wuxian.

Just as Lan WangJi was about to put coins onto the table, the sound of footsteps came from outside of the wall. One in front and one behind, they were probably the owners who had just come home. Wei WuXian didn’t know why, but as he heard the footsteps, he quickly pushed Lan WangJi down, behind the stack of straws.

Fortunately, Lan WangJi had always been calm and collected that he didn’t make a single noise even after having been pushed down. Despite this, he clearly didn’t understand why they had to hide. Wei WuXian also realized, Right, why are we hiding? These villagers from the countryside can’t possibly recognize us. Can’t we just be honest and say that we’re here to buy food? Maybe I’ve done too many bad things and got used to it.

"You two looks like robbers." laughed Nie Huaisang.

"It's truly is a wonder why you two have to hide especially when it's Lan Wangji. He will never steal in his life." said Jin Zixuan.

"Wrong." said Jin Ling.

"As we all know, Hanguang-jun can do everything and stealing is part of it." he added.

"That's because a gremlin tainted him." Lan Qiren grumbled.

"I didn't!" Wei Wuxian exclaimed.

"Wangji is a kind man." said Lan Qiren.

"Zu-shufu, Lan-shushu will do everything even if Wei-jiujiu wouldn't tell him to. He's already tainted even before they get married." said Jingyi.

"He isn't that kind." he added.

However, with the push, he pushed Lan WangJi’s entire body down onto the soft stack of straws. The somewhat forceful position evoked a strange feeling of excitement within him. He decided to not get up. Purposely putting up an act, he raised his index finger, gesturing for Lan WangJi not to make a sound. Then, he pretended that this couldn’t be helped. Comfortably, he lay on top of Lan WangJi, full of a secretive delight that couldn’t be brought to words.

"You're enjoying it." said Jin Zixuan.

"So shameless." Lan Qiren muttered.

"Well, laying on top of Lan Zhan feels comfortable. What do you think, Lan-shufu?" asked Wei Wuxian.

"I prefer not to think about that." said Lan Qiren.

"Or else, my uncle-in-law will qi deviate." said Wei Wuxian.

"Qi deviation is nl joke, Wei Wuxian." said Jiang Cheng.

"But, our uncle-in-law is a strong man. He won't die easily." said Wei Wuxian.

The sound of pushing wooden stools came from the yard. The two owners of the farm seemed to have sat down before the table. The sound of a woman spoke up, “Er-Gege, I can hug him.”

Hearing the ‘Er-Gege’, Lan WangJi paused slightly.

"Er-gege." Wei Wuxian said suddenly makibg Lan Wangji stiff.

"Please don't, Wei Wuxian. It sound so shameless." said Jiang Cheng.

"I'm not going to do anything." said Wei Wuxian.

"You are. You are planning something." said Jiang Cheng.

A man’s voice spoke, “You can just peel the beans.” Then came the sound of a child murmuring in his sleep.

It seemed that it was a young couple. The wife was preparing dinner while the husband was hugging the asleep child.

With a grin, Wei WuXian winked his left eye at Lan WangJi, whispering, “What a coincidence. The owner of the farm is an ‘Er-Gege’ as well.”

The tone at the end of his words lifted up, its teasing intent more than obvious. With heavy eyes, Lan WangJi swept a look at him before turning away. Wei WuXian felt his heart melt. He lay beside his ears and called in a low voice, “Lan Er-Gege.”

"Are you flirting with him?" asked Jin Zixuan.

"No, I was just calling him in a new nickname." said Wei Wuxian.

"Right, Lan-er-gege?" he asked the man hugging him who is still as a statue.

"A-niang, stop." Sizhui suddenly said.

"Why? Isn't Lan-er-gege a perfect nickname for my husband?" Wei Wuxian asked.

"Nothing good will happen if you continue, Wei Wuxian." said Jiang Cheng.

"Yeah, it's a bad sign, Wuxian." said Lan Xichen.

"Kill joy." Wei Wuxian muttered with a pout.

Lan WangJi’s breaths seemed to have stuttered. The eyes he looked at him with seemed to hold a hint of a warning.

In the yard, the wife chuckled, “You don’t know how to hug him properly. Later, if you make him wake up, I’ll need to be the one who cheers him up again, won’t I?”

The husband, “He’s played too hard today. He must be very tired. He won’t be able to wake up.”

"I want kids!" Wei Wuxian exclaimed.

"Then adopt." said Jiang Cheng.

"As long as they won't bother me." he added.

"That's impossible." said Wei Wuxian.

"You will be their favorite uncle." he added.

"No thanks. I don't need kids to annoy me. As I said, one Wei Wuxian is enough, no need to add many more." said Jiang Cheng.

"Whatever." said Wei Wuxian.

"But, you're so good with kids." he whined.

"I am not." said Jiang Cheng.

The wife peeled the beans as she spoke, “Er-Gege, you really need to discipline A-Bao. He’s only four and he’s already like this. What would he be like when he grows up? How many times has their child cried? He said that he doesn’t want to play with A-Bao anymore.”

The husband, “But he still comes back to him every single time. He says he doesn’t want to, but in his heart he clearly wants to play with A-Bao very much.”

Wei WuXian laughed with a pfft, “Lan Er-Gege, what are your thoughts on this? Do you agree?”

Lan WangJi, “Stop speaking.”

"Wangji is losing his patience." said Lan Xichen.

"But, is it really his patience or his restraint?" he added with a tease.

"Xiongzhang." Lan Wangji called with a warning.

Lan Xichen just chuckled.

"It's dangerous, a-niang." said Sizhui.

"Nothing bad will happen." said Wei Wuxian and the juniors just looked at him.

"I bet the future you and Lan Wangji has traumatized them so much." said Jiang Cheng.

"They did." the four muttered.

At that volume, average people wouldn’t be able to hear them at all. The couple chatted about the usual things while on the other side, right next to Lan WangJi’s ear, Wei WuXian had already relentlessly repeated ‘Lan ErGege’ over half a dozen times, softly and lightly. Lan WangJi seemed to have finally run out of patience. He suddenly flipped around.

His movement was both quick and steady. The straws didn’t move at all, but Wei WuXian was already underneath him.

Lan WangJi’s voice was low, “Anymore, and you will be silenced.”

"Silence with what?" asked Wen Rouhan.

Lan Qiren glared at him.

"I'm just asking." said Wen Rouhan.

"I swear, if something happens to them right there I'm going to break this screen." said Jiang Cheng.

"You're thinking too much, ChengCheng." said Wei Wuxian.

"I'm just preparing myself." said Jiang Cheng.

Wei WuXian reached out toward his face, but Lan WangJi caught his hand at once. Wei WuXian’s tone was serious, “HanGuang-Jun, there’s a straw on your forehead ribbon.”

Hearing this, Lan WangJi’s hands finally relaxed. Wei WuXian helped him pick off the thin straw, presenting it in front of his eyes as he gloated, “See? I wasn’t lying, was I?”

"When are you two going to get up?" asked Jiang Cheng.

"Or at least show the family. I prefer to watch the family than seeing the of them on top of one another." he added.

"Oh come on, ChengCheng. You should get use to it." said Wei Wuxian.

"F*ck you! I will never." said Jiang Cheng.

"Don't be such a kill joy, ChengCheng." said Wei Wuxian.

"Whatever." said Jiang Cheng with an eye roll.

Before he could gloat for too long, he heard the young wife speak again, “But even if this is true, we shouldn’t let A-Bao just bully others.”

Her husband spoke calmly, “Let him be. Boys, don’t they bully other people only because they like them? They just want others to look at them.”

Hearing this, Wei WuXian’s smile froze.

"Oh, isn't that true?" asked Nie Huaisang.

"So true." said Jin Zixuan as they looked at Wei Wuxian.

"Excuse me! I am not a bully." said Wei Wuxian.

"Oh really?" asked Jiang Cheng.

"Did he not bully you or tease the hell out of you just to get your attention, Lan Wangji." he added.

"Hey! That's not true." said Wei Wuxian.

"Still, in others perspective, when getting Lan Wangji's attention you tried your best to tease him that other might think that it's bullying." said Jiang Cheng.

"I didn't bully you right, Lan Zhan?" asked Wei Wuxian but Lan Wangji didn't answer.

"Lan Wangji prefer to say silent in order to not offend you." said Jiang Cheng.

"Whatever." said Wei Wuxian with a pout.

At this point in time, it seemed that the young child had woken up. He mumbled something in a creamy voice. The couple hurried to cheer him up together. A while later, the child fell asleep again. The young wife spoke, “Er-Gege, I told you to discipline A-Bao not only because of this. It’s also because these days it isn’t too safe. Tell him not to play around outside too much and get home earlier.”

The husband, “I know. Is it the thing with the old graves around the village having been dug out?”

The wife, “I heard that it’s not just around our village. Even among the people in the city there are many who had something happen to their ancestors’ graves. It’s just too strange. A-Bao should play at home more. He shouldn’t go outside so often.”

The husband, “That’s right. It’d be awful if he runs into that YiLing Patriarch.”

Wei WuXian, “…”

"Did they really expect that I will do something to the children?" asked Wei Wuxian.

"Of course you will. A demonic cultivator like you could do that." said Jin Guangshan.

"Have you ever seen me hurting a child? A f*cking child?" Wei Wuxian asked angrily.

"I love children so much and don't ever think that I will have a thought of hurting them because I'm not like you." he added.

"I'm just saying my opinion. Why so worked up?" Jin Guangshan asked with a chuckle.

"No one needs to hear your opinion, manwhore." Jin Ling said with a glare.

"Right, no one asked for your opinion, Jin Guangshan." said Wen Rouhan with a smirk.

"Shut up." said Jin Guangshan.

"You're the one who should shut up." said Madam Jin with a glare.

The young wife spoke softly, “I’ve been listening to the YiLing Patriarch’s story ever since I was young. I’ve always thought that ‘if you don’t be obedient the YiLing Patriarch will return to find you and take you back to feed his ghouls’ was only the adults teasing the children. Who would’ve known that such a person really exists? And he really came back?”

The husband, “Yeah. As soon as I heard about digging graves open I thought of him. It’s true indeed. The rumors have been spreading all over the city.”

"I didn't dig those graves. People should really stop spreading rumors." said Wei Wuxian.

"But, you really dig graves back then." said Sect Leader Yao.

"It has purpose besides, I don't any plans to disturb the peace of the world." said Wei Wuxian.

"It might be someone who wants to put all the blame to me in order for him to succeed in his plans." he added.

"You're right." said Sizhui.

"And please, I am asking you politely, Sect Leader Yao, stop being a stupid man, giving unacceptable opinion, and putting blame ti my mother." he added.

"Or you'll have a taste of my sword." he continued as he looked at the man coldly.

To the fact that he was tied together with the act of ‘digging graves open’, Wei WuXian couldn’t do anything aside from feeling helpless. To be honest, he really had done many of these things in the past. The most famous time was during the Sunshot Campaign, when he dug deep into the earth to flip over all of the cemeteries of the QishanWen Sect’s ancestors and turned all of the corpses into puppets. And for every one of the Wen Sect’s cultivators whom he killed, he made them into puppets as well before controlling them to kill the friends and family they had before they died.

During the Sunshot Campaign, all of these things were praised, used to inspire the people. However, the further the Sunshot Campaign became, the more fearful the people were when they mentioned it again. Not only others, even when he, himself, thought about it afterward, he felt that he had done a bit too much. Along with how his identity had just been revealed a few days ago, it wasn’t the fault of other people that they thought it was the YiLing Patriarch when they heard of somebody digging graves open everywhere.

"Guess, I was really cruel." said Wei Wuxian.

"You are." said a Jin disciple.

"You want to have a taste of it?" asked Jin Ling.

"Besides, Wei-daijiu has reasons and many people just love to put blame on him." he added.

"Even if he did such things during the war, after so many years people still think that it was his doing even if he's dead." said Zizhen.

"Not to mention, he came back alive so all the blame was put to him again." he added.

"So, don't just think that he's cruel because he's the most kindest person you'll ever meet if you won't make him mad." said Jingyi.

"My lovely nephews are defending me. So sweet." said Wei Wuxian.

"Excuse me, I'm not your nephew." said Zizhen.

"Someday you will." Wei Wuxian grinned as he wink at Jingyi.

The wife spoke again, “Let’s just hope that he knows who did him wrong. If he wants to seek revenge, then seek revenge on those cultivators. Please don’t come harm us normal people.”

Her husband, “Who could possibly guarantee that? When he killed over three thousand people in Qishan, I was very young, but I can still remember that back then, not only the immortals who cultivated, even normal people were scared of him. He’s a bloodlusting demon who has no heart.”

Wei WuXian’s grin gradually faded.

"I have a heart." Wei Wuxian said feeling offended.

"Who lives without a heart?" he asked and suddenly laughed out loud.

"Oh please." said Jiang Cheng.

"Besides, it doesn't mean that when a person cultivated is immortal. Who even spread the rumors about that and what, what will they gain about saying that Wei Wuxian is a demon because if he is then maybe the world is surrounded with darkness and no light will reflect." he added.

"You think so highly of me, ChengCheng." said Wei Wuxian.

"I just based it on what I see on the screen." said Jiang Cheng.

"So you think of me like a demon?" Wei Wuxian asked dramatically.

"Stop being dramatic." said Jiang Cheng.

Wei Wuxian just grinned at him.

He had been quite interested when listening to the couple talk about their daily lives. However, all of a sudden, he felt that his head was as heavy as a thousand pounds. He couldn’t raise it to see the expression on Lan WangJi’s face. What the couple chatted about next, he couldn’t hear any of it.

Suddenly, a chilling roar came from outside of the farm. The family in the yard had been having dinner, talking and laughing. When they heard the unhuman roar, they were so startled that even one of the bowls smashed onto the ground. The child began to cry. The young man snatched a hoe from the side, “Don’t worry! Don’t worry!”

"Oh shit! What was that?" asked Nie Huaisang as he hid behind his brother.

"Calm down, it's nothing scary." said Nie Mingjue.

"Nothing scary? Just the sound of it is scary enough." said Nie Huaisang.

"It's not scary, Nie-xiong. Next time, we will bring you in a night hunt and you will see and hear a lot of things that seems scary for you. You'll learn how to face it and became brave." said Wei Wuxian.

Not only were they surprised, even Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi flinched. Lan WangJi was about to get up when Wei WuXian thought of something and grabbed the clothing in front of his chest, “Don’t move!”

Lan WangJi’s eyes widened slightly. The roar had definitely come from some dark, cruel creature. If the owner of the farm went to deal with it alone, he’d most likely not come back alive. In spite of this, Wei WuXian repeated, “Don’t move.”

A scream came from the yard, along with more of those unhuman roars coming closer and closer. It had already entered the door. Lan WangJi couldn’t stay still any longer. Bichen unsheathed at the speed of lightning. Yet, the family of three had already fled, running as they screamed. The stack of straw had been messed up by Bichen. Amid the straws raining down on them, something entirely black stood in the middle of the yard.

"Da-ge!" Nie Huaisang exclaimed and the three laughed at him.

"It's not funny." said Nie Huaisang.

"Get use to it." said Jiang Cheng.

"Your brother is not always there to defend and protect." he added.

"Whatever, Jiang-xiong." said Nie Huaisang as he continue to hide behind his brother.

"I will make sure that next time I will you a scare of a lifetime." said Wei Wuxian.

"That would be fun." Jiang Cheng agrees.

"Traitors." Nie Huaisang mumbled.

Its hair was tangled and it was still flashing its fangs. The disordered points that seemed to grow out of its body made it look both terrifying and somewhat funny. Lan WangJi had never seen such a monster before. He paused in surprise, while Wei WuXian had spoken already, “Wen Ning, you haven’t opened up your throat in too many years. Your shouts are really getting worse and worse.”

Human speech came out of the mouth of the dark monster, “Young Master… I’m a fierce corpse after all. All fierce corpses sound like this… when they shout.”

Wei WuXian patted his shoulder, “Such strong energy.”

"It's just you!" Nie Huaisang exclaimed ay he pointed at Wen Ning.

"Told you it's not scary." said Wei Wuxian.

"Don't you ever do that again." said Nie Huaisang as sit back on his seat.

"I w-won't." Wen Ning stuttered.

"Maybe the reason why you're stuttering because you're not used on speaking." said Nie Huaisang.

"Join our group and I will make sure that you'll develop a confidence being with us." he added.

"And what? Put him to danger?" asked Wen Qing.

"No and yes. We will make him learn a lot of things in this life and also make him cause trouble no matter how dangerous the situation is besides, we are there to defend and save him when he's in danger." said Wei Wuxian.

Wen Qing just narrowed her eyes at him.

Wen Ning glanced at Lan WangJi. Probably having recalled that the GusuLan Sect’s people disliked those who didn’t dress neatly, he smoothed his hair a couple of times, sheepish-looking. As Wei WuXian saw how many branches stuck out of his hair, he almost couldn’t bear it as he plucked one out, “Why did you suddenly jump out? And you’re like this. Were you robbed? What’s that on your face?”

Wen Ning, “The dust and dirt on the ground… After I watched you two go inside and didn’t come out for a long time…”

Wei WuXian, “You’ve always been following behind us?”

"You're such a loyal friend in the future." said Wei Wuxian.

"Yes, my brother is very loyal." said Wen Qing.

"Yet he killed people." said Jin Zixun.

"Do you want to be the first one?" asked Wen Qing.

"Or you want me to be the one to kill you?" she added.

"Damn Wens." Jin Zixun muttered which didn't escape Wen Rouhan's ears as he glanced at the man with a dark look.

"Dumb Jins." said Wen Xu.

Wen Ning nodded. Wei WuXian understood.
Wen Ning didn’t dare meet with anyone except for him. And so, after they went down the Cloud Recesses, he secretly followed behind them. When he saw that nothing happened for a long time after they went inside the farm, he went to listen in and heard that the couple was talking about him. He felt awkward and wanted to scare them away so that Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi could come out. Probably feeling that how he had looked wasn’t daunting enough, he stuck a bunch of strange things to his face and his body.

Wei WuXian was laughing so hard that he was close to death. With a look of embarrassment on his face, Wen Ning rubbed the mud away as Wei WuXian suddenly found that his hands were covered in blood, “What happened?”

"He might have killed someone." said Jin Zixun.

"That explains the blood in his hands." Jin Guangshan supported.

"You two should watch and listen first before coming to a wrong conclusion." said Sizhui with a cold look.

"But that's the only possible reason." said Jin Guangshan.

"Then you're dumb." said Jingyi.

"So disrespectful." said Jin Guangshan.

"Because it's true?" asked Lan Qiren.

"How many times they tell you to watch and listen intently to avoid wrong conclusion?" he added.

"Go Qiren!" Wen Rouhan cheered but the man just glared at him.

"You better keep silent, Jin Guangshan." said Wen Rouhan as he avoided the glare.

Wen Ning, “Oh, nothing…”

Lan WangJi, “The scent of blood.”

Wei WuXian just realized that there really was the scent of blood coming from Wen Ning. His heart skipped a beat. As Wen Ning saw, he immediately waved his hands, “Not blood! No, no, it is blood, but it’s not the blood of live humans.”

Wei WuXian, “Not the blood of live humans? Have you fought with anything?”

"So he fought with dead humans?" asked Wei Wuxian.

"Walking corpses." said Jiang Cheng.

"It isn't good to hear when you called them dead humans. It seemed weird." said Jin Zixuan.

"Okay, okay but he really fought with it?" Wei Wuxian asked.

"Maybe. There's nothing wrong with it." said Jiang Cheng.

"They're still humans." said a Lan elder.

"And what? Let them hurt you instead?" asked Jiang Cheng.

The Lan elder was silent.

Wen Ning had led them for a while until they arrived at a patch of woods. In the woods, there were twenty or thirty new graves, along with a half-finished pit on the side and a pile of corpses beside the pit. He’d call it a pile and not a single corpse because the corpses were already quite broken. Wei WuXian went up to examine it. The fingers of some of the severed arms were still twitching. The jaws of some of the heads were still opening and closing, creating the hair-rising sound of teeth rubbing against one another. The corpses had transformed already.

Wei WuXian, “You’ve broken them into quite a lot of pieces.”

Wen Ning, “If I didn’t, they’d keep on biting people. They couldn’t be stopped at all. All along the way there are corpses like these.”

"See, he did it for good." said Wei Wuxian.

"To stop the corpses for harming the innocent humans who doesn't know how to fight." he added.

"That looks cruel." said Sect Leader Yao.

"If you won't broke them into pieces, those corpses might be the one to broke you into pieces instead." said Lan Xichen.

"It's reasonable." Nie Mingjue agreed.

Wei WuXian, “All along the way? Have you always been in front of us to get rid of these things?”

Wen Ning nodded in embarrassment. His ability to recognize those of his own was greater than that of humans, and he could recognize them from farther away as well. If this was the case, then that’d explain why nothing had happened during their journey. Wei WuXian had found this strange as well. Didn’t people say that a bunch of fierce corpses were travelling toward Yiling? Why didn’t they see a single one of them? So Wen Ning had cleared the obstacles before them.

"That's a good thing, a-ning. Help those who are kind to you." said Wen Qing.

"Y-yes." Wen Ning stuttered.

"Thank you, then, Wen Ning." said Wei Wuxian with a smile.

"Join us on a night hunt next time." he added.

"I'll t-try." said Wen Ning with a small smile.

"As long as you won't make him a bait." said Wen Qing.

"We're not like that." said Wei Wuxian.

"How would I know?" asked Wen Qing.

"I can assure you, Wen-guniang. Your didi will be safe with them." said Jiang Yanli.

"Lets see." said Wen Qing.

Wei WuXian, “When did you begin to follow us?”

Lan WangJi, “Koi Tower.”

Wei WuXian looked at Wen Ning as Lan WangJi continued, “The day of the fight with the cultivators, he helped.”

Wei WuXian sighed, “Didn’t I tell you to hide somewhere and not worry about anything right now?”

Wen Ning forced a smile, “But, Young Master… where could I hide?”

"Everywhere." said Wei Wuxian.

"You put yourself in danger when you followed us now that the world is against us." he added.

"You just thanked him for protecting you from walking corpses and now you're telling him that he should hide?" asked Jiang Cheng.

"Because, I don't want him to be in danger knowing that he's following just to protect me." said Wei Wuxian.

"He has nowhere to go. His sister's dead." said Jiang Cheng.

"You need some break on your mouth sometimes, Jiang-xiong." said Nie Huaisang.

Jiang Cheng just looked at him.

Before, he had somewhere to return to, people he could follow, but now, in this world, apart from Wei WuXian, everyone was unfamiliar to him.

After a while of silence, Wei WuXian stood up and patted at the dust at the lower hem of his clothes, “Bury them.”

"Yeah, we should give them a proper burial." said Wei Wuxian.

"How would it be a proper burial when all of them are already dismembered?" asked Jiang Cheng.

"By just simply burying them." said Wei Wuxian.

"But a proper burial need to a process." said Jin Zixuan.

"Whatever. They're not familiar with us so lets just simply bury them." said Wei Wuxian.

Wen Ning quickly nodded. He continued to dig the pit that had only been half finished. Lan WangJi pulled Bichen out. Its sword energy swept out. Dirt splashed everywhere, and a crevice was opened in the ground.

Wei WuXian, “HanGuang-Jun, you’re digging the grave too?”

"Isn't it obvious?" asked Su She.

"Yeah, yeah. He's digging a grave for you." said Wei Wuxian.

"Wouldn't that be great knowing that it was the great Hanguang-jun who made a grave for you?" he asked.

Su She just glared at him while the juniors are laughing at him.

Lan WangJi turned around. Just as he was about to speak, he saw Wen Ning standing behind him. Forcing up his frozen lips, he squeezed a smile, “… Young Master Lan, do you want any help? I’m finished with my side.”

Lan WangJi looked behind him. There were rows of black pits, the piles of dirt beside them tall and neat. Wen Ning maintained his ‘smile’ as he added, “I do this kind of thing a lot. I’m experienced. And fast.”

On the topic of who it was that often made him ‘do this kind of thing’, no explanation was needed.

"Of course it will be the Yiling Patriarch." said Jin Zixun.

"And the next time I told him to dig a grave, it will be yours if you won't keep your mouth shut." said Wei Wuxian.

"Please do it." said the juniors.

"When we're out of here." said Wei Wuxian with a smile.

"Thank goodness." said the juniors.

After some silence, Lan WangJi finally spoke, “There is no need. You can help…”

Before he could finish, he suddenly realized that Wei WuXian didn’t move at all. He had been squatting on the side, watching them. When he left the farm, he casually took with him a melon, and now he seemed to be trying to figure out how to open it.

Meeting Lan WangJi’s gaze, he protested, “HanGuang-Jun, don’t look at me like that. I have nothing in my hands and my spiritual powers are low, am I right? For every field there are professionals, it’s true. Digging graves, he’s the fastest. Why don’t we talk about how to eat the melon? Bichen had gone into the dirt and we won’t be able to use it as of now. Does anyone have anymore knives or swords or those kinds of things on them?”

"You should have at least took some small knife with you before going out of that house." said Jiang Cheng.

"Next time I will." said Wei Wuxian.

"And take a lot of melons with you. One isn't enough." said Jiang Cheng.

"Join me then." said Wei Wuxian.

"It won't be only melons you're going to steal." said Jiang Yanli.

The brothers just pouted at him.

Wen Ning shook his head, “Sorry, I didn’t bring any.”

Wei WuXian, “HanGuang-Jun, uh, is Suibian with you?”

Lan WangJi, “…”

"Sword isn't for cutting fruit." said Lan Qiren.

"Bichen is for everything." said Jingyi and Lan Qiren frowned at him.

"Don't bother asking, you'll just get traumatized or worse you'll die." said Jingyi making Lan Wangji look at him.

"Jingyi, you also need some break in your mouth." said Sizhui.

Eventually, he took Suibian out of his qiankun sleeve. Melon in one hand and sword in the other, he showed off a sword routine and cut the little watermelon into eight pieces. After he finished, he squatted on the ground, watching them dig graves diligently as he ate melon.

On the other hand, within half an hour, Wen Ning had digged an entire row of pits exactly the same in size. He lay the corpses that he had broken up inside as he rambled on, “Everyone, I’m really sorry. I can’t tell anymore which of your corpses belonged to whom. If I buried anyone’s wrong, please excuse me…”

Having finished the melon and buried the rest of the corpses, Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi set off again.

A few days later, the two arrived at Yiling.

"Oh, we are going on an exciting part." said Jingyi.

"More like we will a an earful of scolding again." said Jin Ling.

"Don't worry, it's our fault why we are there anyway." said Jingyi.

"It doesn't sound so reassuring at all." said Jin Ling.

"Because it is not." said Zizhen and the four glanced at their parents.
