Double Date Disaster: Part1
Jess's POV
"Yeah can you ask Emma if she's there if the two of them want to join us for maybe a double date?" I ask Darcy over the phone.
I can hear him playfully pout over the phone. "You really want me to ask my sister if she wants to go on a date with me."
"Well if you want to put it in an oddly disturbing way, then yes."
"Fine." I think he just wants to make me happy right now. Not to worry, I'll make it up to him soon; I just think this will all be more fun if Emma and her boyfriend Stewart join us.
I hear someone clearing their throat, and then some whispering. There's a voice that sounds to be from a girl-probably Emma, and then there's a deeper voice, more masculine-Stewart.
Darcy responds back to me when he seemingly had returned back to his bedroom. "They said sure. When do you want me to drive over to pick you up?"
"Whenever you're ready, I guess. I'm already dressed and ready."
"Oh that's great. Only thing is that I'm not sure how ready Stewart and Emma are. I'm pretty sure that Stewart is going to have to run home to change or something, 'cause he's not going into a fancy restaurant anytime soon wearing a tee shirt and a ragged pair of jeans."
I look at the time: 6:04pm. I'm kind of getting hungry, "Can't you lend him something to wear?"
"Um I'm aware that girls tend to share their clothes with each other and everything, but honey, that's not exactly the same with the opposite gender."
I try to suppress a laugh. "Can't you just do it this once? Come on, it'll be fun!"
I hear him say something under his breath about this had better be worth it, and then a reply, "Fine."
"Thanks. See you then?"
"Yup."
"Bye."
"Bye."
I hang up, and then I take one last look in the mirror to check if my mascara is still good, then I sit down on my bed
and read a few pages of my book.
~~~
The doorbell rings about half an hour later. When I go downstairs and get the door, I'm greeted by an awaiting Darcy, wearing a dress shirt and slick black pants. Oof, he looks good. I smile, giving him a light kiss on the lips, "Evening."
"Let's save the PDA for later to bug the other two." He grins back.
"Haha. Funny."
We walk to the car where Emma and Stewart are sitting in the back seat. Emma is wearing a nice purple dress and Stewart seemed to be looking pretty comfortable in Darcy's clothes. That's good to see. I'm glad that Emma and I match with our purple themed dresses.
I climb into the passenger's seat and Darcy jumps into the driver's seat.
We arrive at the restaurant and Darcy goes to the main desk and signs us in from our reservation. The hostess guides us into the restaurant rooms and places four menus at our table. "Your waiter for the evening will be with you in a moment. Would you like something to drink in the meantime?"
I have no intentions on drinking tonight, and apparently neither do the rest of us, because I see that Emma, Stewart and Darcy shake their heads. Darcy adds, "Just water for the four of us please."
"Certainly, sir." And she walks off. She returns a couple of minutes later with four glasses of water.
While we wait, we all take a look at the menu. I'm thinking of taking a salmon dish, and Darcy, who is sitting next to me, is asking me about a steak and fries plate, "There's either the side of salad or coleslaw."
"Salad sounds good."
"Salad it is then." He closes his menu in response. I drink a few swigs of water from my glass. It's already almost empty.
Emma, who is sitting across me, is talking to Stewart about what she's going to get. I overhear the words lobster and chicken, but then I get the sudden urge of needing to go to the restroom.
"I'm going to the restroom. You know what I'm getting, right? Just in case the waiter comes by to take our order?" He nods.
And because it's a girl's trend to go to the restroom with a buddy, Emma already seems to know what's happening when I get up my seat, and we walk to the restrooms together.
Emma is fixing her hair in the mirror when I get out of the stall. "Ready?" I ask when I'm done washing my hands.
One last look in the mirror, and she answers, "Yup."
We walk back to our table, but we're not quite there yet when we both see that our waitress is taking our order. It's a blond young girl, probably in her late teens. From where we're standing, it looks like she might want to stay a little bit more on the professional side while she's talking to Darcy and Stewart. When she flips her hair, trying to be nonchalant, I know that we may have a problem. From the way Emma sucks in her breath next to me, I can tell she thinks the same.
