Community Service

Cassidy's POV
"I'm just suggesting that you try something else for a change, Cassidy." My principal tells me in the hall. "You won't reach the full requirements of your community service if you just do your Chicks with Sticks, because it won't affect other children around you, just those who play or want to play hockey. Look, I'm not saying you have to stop your hockey program, just consider trying one more thing before the end of the year, something more common."
I sigh and reluctantly say alright to the principal.
At home I tell my mother about the situation, which turns out to be a terrible idea, since she seems to be agreeing with the principal.
"Oh Cassidy I have a fantastic idea! You need some help in math right?"
"Um I guess?"
"Perfect! You should help tutor Dylan and Ryan with their math. They're much older now, and I'm sure it'll help you with your own math skills, trust me on this!"
Wow, my mother seems more excited than me, I'm surprised it isn't her doing the community service.
But I consider the idea. If I do this, even just one time, I'd be able to complete my service quota and be done with this, and then I'd be able to go back to Chicks with Sticks without interruption. That's sounds like a plan to me!
~~~~ a couple days later-~~~~
It's Friday now, meaning that we could take our time with homework, which also means that no one will get mad if I spend too much time trying to get the twins to understand a math question.
I'm at the Delaney farm right now, and I'm rushed into the house to the twins' room as soon as I get it. Jess isn't home yet; she's hanging out with Savannah after school today.
I struggle with the first couple of math questions the boys have, but they're only practice division, so soon I get the hang of teaching them and helping around. Who knew tutoring can be so soothing? Maybe it's just that I have quiet and easy children to tutor, which is funny because this is the twins were talking about here, not angels fallen from heaven. But it's actually a tiniest bit fun knowing that I know more than them, like I'm a magic wizard and teaching them my skills if they're my apprentices. It's fun; maybe I should do this too on the side of Chicks with Sticks, if I ever have the time to do that of course. Maybe I should free up my schedule on Fridays so that I could tutor the Delaney twins every week. Because this has become an surprising success.
