A ghostly friend (Dream Team)
(This is a Phasmophobia style oneshot since I watched a stream where George, Sapnap, Karl and Punz played together)
(Edit: I don't know what I was thinking when writing this... but it's too good to take down. It will get a bit weird at the end, just a warning)
"I don't know about this Sap... Maybe we should have picked a different job..." I stared at the small house in front of us, feeling shivers run up my spine. How can a simple house make someone feel so uncomfortable? It looks completely normal... "Nah. We'll be fine, don't worry about it. Now grab some stuff and let's go." "But this ghost is supposed to be super aggressive... We never had one that was reported to be this angry whenever someone is near... and it killed someone before... Sap we never had to encounter a ghost that actually murdered someone. What if-" Sapnap turned to face me and grabbed my shoulders, looking annoyed. "Come on George. We hunted ghosts before. What's so different now? So what if it's dangerous. We are considered experts by now. We got this." "I don't know... It just... feels different." Sap just groaned and grabbed his torch. "Whatever you big baby. Then I'll just go in on my own and you can wait here."
I immediately grabbed his arm to stop him from leaving. "No! Don't you dare leave me here!" "Then get your shit together and come with me! You agreed to this job!" I sighed and grabbed my own torch, this weird EMF thing and the journal that ghosts can write in. Why do ghosts need a special journal? Can't they just write on a piece of paper or something? "What's the name of the ghost?" Sap glanced at our whiteboard with all the information we have. "Clay. There is no last name apparently... That's weird... It responds to only one person at a time... so we should split up once we are inside." "Do we have to?" "Yes. Otherwise we won't get any signs." I groaned and followed Sapnap out of our truck and towards the house. He used the spare key we got to unlock the door and open it wide to let me in first.
The house was quiet and dark, the furniture covered in dust, but still relatively new. This whole house looked like someone actually lived here not to long ago... I wonder when the ghost died here... since apparently no one lived here after the original owner's death. But it looks so new... and at least a little bit taken care of. I wonder if the family of the old owner comes here to take care of the house... The death involved with the ghost was a teenager who snuck into the house with his friends. No one knows how he actually died. The friends that were with him said he just... fell over and stopped breathing. Completely out of nowhere. Even the doctors at the hospital had no idea how it happened. That's when people decided there is something supernatural involved. Especially with reports of people who wanted to buy the house getting scared of moving objects and loud noises throughout the day and night. "Alright. You go upstairs and check the rooms there. I'll stay down here. Be careful." "You too..."
The stairs creaked loudly under my feet as I slowly made my way up to the second floor. It was just as dark and creepy up here as it was downstairs, but it was manageable with my torch. The first room I entered was a small bathroom that was suprisingly clean. Even the mirror on the wall barely had any dust or anything on it. Seriously, someone has to be taking care of this house. There is no way it is this clean if no one comes in here. I turned on the EMF thing and looked around the room for a second. Here goes nothing. "Ummm... Clay? Are you here? Give me a sign." I waited for a few moments, but the EMF didn't show any activity. "Guess not..." I left the room and entered the next one, which was a bedroom with plain white walls and empty shelves. Probably a guest bedroom... "Clay? Are you here? Give me a sign please." Again, I got no reaction. None at all. I sighed and turned around to leave the room again and try my luck in the next one, but almost jumped out of my skin while screaming at the top of my lungs when a pair of slightly glowing eyes stared up at me from the dark hallway.
"GEORGE?! GOGY WHATS WRONG?!" I could hear Sapnap's heavy footsteps rush towards the stairs. It took me a few moment to realize that in front of me wasn't a deadly creature that wants to rip my head of, but just a cat that stared up at me with big eyes. I let out a shaky breath and kneeled down to pet the cat. "I'm okay! It was just a cat that scared me!" The footsteps stopped. "Oh my god you gave me a heart attack! Don't do that!" "Tell that the cat!" Speaking of cat, is this cat living here all by itself? It is wearing a collar with a name tag... "Patches... what a cute name. Even if you scared the shit out of me earlier." Patches meowed and walked out of the room, only to look back at me and meow again. "What is it girl? Want me to follow you?"
I got up and followed the cat to a different room. It was another bedroom, but this one was completely decorated. It had green walls and shelves full of books, photo frames and other stuff like figurines and drawings. Against the wall was a large desk with a complete gaming setup and multiple monitors. The bed was messy and there was a cat bed in the corner that Patches was now laying in. "Huh... is this your room then? Did your owner live here before they died? Then you must be one old cat." I went over to pet her again and then looked at the computer. I wonder if it still works... it looks taken care of, the monitors are clean and the mouse and keyboard are actually glowing slightly. So the electricity in the house still works... that's good to know.
Out of nowhere the EMF reader in my head started to beep loudly and showed four glowing lights. Oh no nononono! I got up to leave and get Sapnap, but the door slammed shut and locked right in front of me. My light started flashing and the room suddenly felt 20 degrees colder. "SAPNAP! HELP! HELP! NICK PLEASE!" I banged against the door when I started to hear noises behind me. Footsteps that slowly came closer, breathing right behind me. "NICK! NICK HELP! PLEASE!" Cold breath hit my neck and made shivers run up my spine. "He can't hear you~ This room is almost fully soundproof~" A cold hand grabbed my shoulder and turned me around. To my own suprise, I wasn't faced by a terrifying, bloodthirsty, half rotten ghost like I had encountered in other ghost hunts, but piercing yellow-looking eyes and a young and fresh looking face. And fuck he's tall... he's absolutely towering over me.
"I don't like thieves and kids coming into my house and messing with my stuff. Especially my little Patches." Fuck he's angry. Oh god I'm dead. I'm so fucking dead. "I-i wasn't trying to hurt her! And I didn't want to steal anything either! I was just looking around!" The piercing yellow eyes narrowed further and the grip on my shoulder tightened. "Then what do you want here? You know my name. You are clearly here for something." Okay... keep calm George... you can do this. Don't get yourself killed. He's willing to talk this out. Just... stay calm. Make up a lie. "I... me and my friend are... trying to prove that ghosts are real... and we did some research for... well... ghost events around the area and found one about this house... and a boy that died here." "That doesn't explain why you know my name." "This name was registered as the last owner of the house... so we just figured you could be the ghost... it was a lucky guess..."
The ghost, which is definitely called Clay since he confirmed it now, stared at me for a few moments more before backing away and floating over his bed, not saying anything else. I just awkwardly stood there and watched him as he leaned down to pat Patches, who immediately started to purr loudly. I never saw a ghost like him before... like... just a see through human and not a half rotten or mangled corpse. He does look young too. I would guess him around my age, if not younger. That's so weird... "Why did you call Patches old? Just because she's my cat?" "Well... I don't know for how long you have been dead so... I wasn't sure how old she actually is... ghosts usually have quite a few decades behind them before messing with humans... or am I wrong with that?" Clay laughed and shook his head, his slightly see through hair fluffing up in the process. His hair... it looks so soft... "Oh no. I died three years ago. I'm not that old. And ghosts don't have to be old at all when first appearing... their appearance depends on how they died." "Really? I mean... I did figure you are not that old since you look... well... young and not as scary and rotten as ghosts are usually described but... I didn't expect that... so I guess you didn't die in a horrible way then?" Clay's eyes darkened. Oh no... did I mess up? Fuck... don't ask a dead person how they died George! "My death was... sudden. Let's put it that way. Patches is the only one who stayed by my side while my family grieved... but moved on. They never came back since..."
"I'm... sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you... I'm so sorry..." "It's alright. I came to terms with being dead a long time ago." Now an awkward silence filled the room. What do I do now? Should I just leave or... "Sooo... you won't hurt me, right?" "No. I don't feel like it. And it's been years since I last talked to someone... it feels nice." "Oh... okay... Thank you Clay..." "Don't call me that... I don't like it..." "You don't like your name?" "No... it just reminds me of... how things used to be." He stared at the ground, obviously sad. "Then... what should I call you? You have a nickname or something?" "I do. It's Dream." "Dream? Really?" "Yup." "Alright... I guess I can call you Dream then..."
Cla- Dream smiled again. Fuck, that smile... I've never seen someone giving such a genuine smile... he must have been so lonely in here... "There are reports about a boy dying here... did you do that? People suspect something supernatural as the cause..." Dream looked away from me and sighed. "Yes. That was me..." "Why did you kill him?" "I didn't... I was... I know this sounds bad... and it is... but believe me... I didn't mean to. This kid... and his friends... they broke into my home... broke my stuff... and then they found Patches. And they started to chase and attack her for fun! It made me so angry. I just snapped... I wanted to protect Patches..." He looked truly hurt when he remembered that incident, too hurt to fake that he's sorry. "I think I get it... it's okay... you don't seem like a bad person."
Dream gave a grateful smile and floated back over to me. But before he could say anything Sapnap banged against the bedroom door. "George?! Are you in there?! Where are you?!" Oh yeah... I almost forgot about him. Dream waved his hand at the door and it immediately unlocked. When Sapnap bursts in, Dream just suddenly vanished. "George! Oh my god don't you dare to do this again!" "Um... what did I do?" "You ignored me! I called you and literally screamed your name through the whole house!" "Oh... I'm sorry... I didn't hear anything." He groaned in annoyance and looked around the room. "I got no sign of the ghost downstairs. Did you get anything up here?" My mind immediately went back to Dream. Our job is to identify the ghost... so the experts can get rid of it the right way...
"No. I didn't find anything... Maybe there isn't a ghost in here? You know we have these fake reports sometimes." "Maybe... but he just be very inactive at the moment..." "Nah we always get at least a temperature drop or EMF. This time we didn't get a single thing." "True...I'll do one more round with the Spirit box. You use the EMF reader again. If we still don't get anything we just report it as a fake and call it a day." "Sounds good to me." Sap grinned and turned around to leave and get the spirit box.
"Why did you keep me a secret from your friend?" Dream appeared again and hovered near the door through which Sapnap just left. "I don't know. Why did you disappear and hid from him?" "Good point." "Look Dream... I don't want you to get hurt. So just... stay away from Sapnap while he does his thing and then we'll leave you alone." "But... I don't want you to leave... I like having you around." No... don't be like that... I will actually feel bad for leaving if he does this. "Dream... I can't stay here... I have a life to live outside of this and..." The kind eyes that looked at me earlier became furious and narrowed. Why is he suddenly mad at me again? "Yeah yeah. You go live your life. Just leave me here like everyone else. It's not like a dead person matters anyways." He floats over to Patches' cat bed and starts petting her again. "You know that's not what I meant." "Yes it is. You pretend that you care and then you'll just leave me behind. That's what my family did too. No one cares about you anymore once you are dead."
"Clay listen..." "Don't call me that!" "Fine! Dream! I do care about you! I protected you against getting discovered and gotten rid of just now! But you seem to forgot how being alive works! I have to work and make money and pay bills and just... do everything! I can't stay here!" "What... what do you mean... getting rid of me?" That's when I realized what I just said. Shit... "Sap and I... sometimes take night jobs where we identify ghosts through categorizing them to a specific type... once we do... we report this information and then a type of... ghost exterminator or some shit gets rid of the ghost." He backed away further and stared at me in disbelief.
"You lied to me..." "I was trying to save my life... I thought you wanted to kill me." "Kill you? You came here to kill me!" "That was before I knew that you are actually a nice guy!" "And how do I know you won't just go out and report me anyways?!" "Wasn't what I did with Sapnap enough proof?! I protected you from him!" I could see both anger and confusion in his eyes, as if he just can't believe that I want to protect him. I don't even know myself why I want to do it... I just do.
"Look... I'm sorry I lied... I didn't mean to hurt you. And I won't report your existence either... let's just... forget this happened, okay?" "And what after that? You will leave and I'll be alone again. Then someone else would try to come in here and mess with my things again." I groaned and rubbed over my face. This dense idiot... "Dream you know I can't stay... I can try visit you every now and then? Would that make you happy?" Dream was silent and just stared at the wall. Would it make him happy? "You... would come visit?" "Sure. I'll try at least... I can't come every single day of course."
Now Dream was smiling again. "I'd like that... Thank you." I smiled and reached out for him, but once again Sapnap destroyed the moment. "Got anything with your equipment?" "No... nothing." He sighed and turned back to the stairs. "Alright. Then let's go. This is useless. It's probably a fake report." I followed him down the stairs and to our car. Right before we drove off I saw Dream looking through the window and waving at me. I couldn't help but smile and wave back for a second before the car started to drive away from the small house that was the home of my new ghost friend.
Maybe this could work out... and I can help Dream be happy again. And one day... I'll tell Sapnap and then he can be friends with Dream too.

This took way too long... and I got bored of it so I rushed the ending once again.
Sorry
