Toast

TW: mention of death, mentioned manipulation and gaslighting

This one shot is inspired by a comic I found on Twitter where Tommy died and became a ghost. My version of Ghostinnit is Tommy become's a wraith, a vengeful ghost, but he only remembers his exile and anything before that. Also this was started before the festival.

"Tubbo!" Ghostbur called over the president to the community Nether portal, "look who I found!"

"Who'd you find, Wilbur," Tubbo sighed, probably another one of his jokes, something he didn't need. The festival had been a bust, the execution of Dream had failed, L'Manburg was in ruins, Technoblade was threatening his power, and Tommy. Tommy was dead.

"You're gonna love this, get ready for," he held out the last word and the ghost of Tommy came through. He had gray skin and hair similar to that of Ghostbur's, the clothes he usually wore were tattered and singed, and he looked slowly at Tubbo with an expression of disgust, betrayal, and anger. "Tommy! I found Ghost Tommy. Say hi Tommy!"

"Exiled," Tommy said, his voice was rough as he slowly pointed at Tubbo. It pained him to speak but all he knew was anger and hurt, hurt by Tubbo.

"I didn't want to," Tubbo said, he never thought he would see his best friend again, but then he learned Tommy was working with Technoblade, yet he still called Tommy a friend, "we're best friends."

Tommy just slowly shook his head. "Friend?" A face kept coming to mind but he didn't have a name to match to it, he was able to make himself say something else, "Where?"

"You want to see Friend? I can go get him," Ghostbur excitedly ran away leaving the two in an awkward lingering silence.

"Compass," Tommy took off the compass around his neck and held it out to Tubbo.

"But this is yours," Tubbo didn't want to take it, it had been his own fault he lost his.

"Burn," Tommy said, thinking back to when his friend had told him Tubbo had burned his compass, "again."

"Are you talking about my compass," Tubbo asked, "I didn't burn my compass."

"Burn," Tommy said, pulling the compass towards him and held it in both hands, his hands turned red, orange, and yellow and started to look just like lava. The edges of the compass started to turn red and melt.

"No!" Tubbo snatched the compass from his hands the hot metal burning him, "I'll take it, just don't burn it." He dropped it before using his sleeve to safety pick it up.

"Tommy!" Ranboo ran up to them, "I glad you were able to come back! How are you?"

"Mad," He said pointing at Tubbo, he hadn't hid it, Tubbo hadn't come to his beach party, only his friend had.

"Why are you mad at Tubbo, he's nice and the best thing to happen to L'Manburg," Ranboo said then realized they probably shouldn't bring Tommy to L'Manburg.

"Exile," Tommy said, he then started walking away to his house. He was done with Tubbo he had gotten rid of the compass.

"We need to follow him before he decides to burn something else," Tubbo showed him the compass to prove his point.

"Oh man, we should probably get Wilbur, Philza, or even Technoblade to see what's going on with him," Ranboo said, keeping an eye on Tommy before he got too far away, "you keep an eye on him I'll find Philza. I'm sure he'll eventually come around."

"I have an idea," Tubbo raced after Tommy as he slowly made his way to his house, "Tommy I have something you'll love to see!"

"Friend," Tommy muttered, maybe he would be waiting for Tommy at his house, he always seemed to know where Tommy was. Tubbo stayed a good distance away from Tommy but when they finally reached the house he raced over to the ender chest.

"Here, you gave this to me because you trusted me so I wanted to give it back so that you know you can still trust me," Tubbo pulled out the disk from his ender chest and gave it to Tommy, "see, it's one of your disks."

"Disk," Tommy said looking down at it.

"Yeah, I think-" Tubbo stopped.

"Problem," Tommy said willing the disk to burn and melt, Tubbo watched in horror as Tommy destroyed one of his most prized possessions, Tommy looked up at Tubbo and asked again, "Friend."

"Technoblade?" Tubbo tried, it hurt but he had been a close family friend so maybe Tommy was talking about him.

"Bad," Tommy shook his head, Techno had destroyed L'Manburg, he knew that Techno wasn't his friend.

"Hello Tommy, enjoying your free range as a ghost," Dream said from on top of Ninja's house, then jumped down to the wooden path.

"Friend," Tommy gave a painful smile, pushed past Tubbo, and pointed at Dream, "who?"

"That's right, Tommy, I am your friend," Dream smirked at Tubbo, Tommy may have died but at least he could still hurt their friendship, "I am the only person who cares about what happens to you."

"Name," Tommy said, then an image of him holding a disk came to mind, "Disk."

"I'm Dream, Tommy, and you don't need my disk," Dream tried to put his arm around Tommy but it went right through him, "how about your friends, do you have anymore?"

"My disk," Tommy winced, it felt like his vocal cords were burning all over again, but everything told him that he needed that disk, that getting rid of it would solve his problems.

"Tommy! I brought you Friend! Technoblade was protecting him for me," Ghostbur came over with the blue sheep on a lead.

"Friend," Tommy pointed at Ghostbur then looked over at Tubbo, "Exile."

"Tubbo exiled you so he's not your friend," Dream pieced together and Tommy slowly nodded.

"What about Technoblade?" Ghostbur asked, hugging Friend, "you two had a lot of fun while we were on tour."

"Bad," Tommy said, why did everyone insist that he and Techno were friends? He did remember what Ghostbur called his exile, but he did have enough strength to say it all, "Lads."

"That's right! Lads on Tour!" Ghostbur grinned and clapped his hands, so happy that Tommy remembered, "I'm going to go make a potion to fix your voice."

"Fire," Tommy said, maybe a fire resistance potion would help, he had so much he wanted to say to his friend, Dream. The soonest thing he remembered was fire, surrounding him and causing immense pain, pain he could constantly feel.

"You should come with me, you can live in my sewer with me," Ghostbur's sewer had been the one thing left alone by the destruction caused by Techno. Tommy reluctantly followed him but it seemed to make Ghostbur happy. They ran down the prime path to L'Manburg, or what was left. It was worse than how Wilbur left it, the giant crater went deeper and was bigger.

"Happen," Tommy asked, who would have destroyed L'Manburg like then, but he already knew the answer.

"I don't know," Ghostbur said, "I don't like bad memories, they don't belong."

"Tommy!" Techno shouted excitedly, well as excited as Technoblade could be, "I knew you'd come back!"

"Bad," Tommy said as Techno came over to them, "wither."

"But I'm your friend, we did this together, we destroyed L'Manburg, Tubbo doesn't have power, you can get your other disks back," Techno said, these words had hurt him, sure Tommy hadn't completely forgiven him but why would Tommy's ghost think he was bad.

"Disk," Tommy said.

"Dream has one and so does Tubbo, you have the others, in your ender chest remember," Techno said, even if Tommy saw him as bad the least he could do was help ghost Tommy finish what aliveinnit started.

"Chest," Tommy said, and Techno put one down for him. Tommy opened it and pulled out Blocks. Holding the black disk with the orange ring he knew he had to get rid of it, "Problem." And once again with no remorse Tommy let the disk burn and melt.

"Tommy!" Tubbo screamed, he had been worried about this, Tommy would keep burning all of his disks because he saw them as a problem, "that was special! We listened to that one with Schlatt!" He ran down with Dream following.

"What the hell?!" Dream yelled, pearling over to them, "why would you do that Tommy?!"

"Not Tommy," he croaked, why couldn't they understand that, Wilbur Soot and Ghostbur weren't the same people, so why did everyone think he was the same as Tommy Innit? They had been talking so much he hadn't been able to finally make that clear to them.

"Who are you then," Techno said, he understood, he respected that Ghostbur and Wilbur weren't the same, so why would ghost Tommy be any different.

"Ooh! What about Toast, or Tomaith, or Ghostinnit," Ghostbur suggested, clapping his hands again.

"Toast," He said, it felt right for him, especially considering his current state.

"Toast it is," Techno said, "maybe stop burning disks, okay Toast."

"Disk," Toast said, "problem."

"The disks aren't the problem Tommy," Dream said, if Tommy didn't care about the disks anymore the one he had was worthless, "they are the reason all of this exists. You gave up the disks to protect this nation!"

"Problem," he insisted, sure they had been the reason L'Manburg existed, but they also caused destruction when they fought over them, it was better that he destroyed the stupid things. Why wouldn't Dream listen to him? They were supposed to be friends.

"Well, since that's how you see things, Wilbur, I believe we need to talk," Dream said, walking off, Tommy would regret his decision, he just had to keep a hold of the disk he still had.

"Why do you need to talk to Dream?" Techno asked, he wasn't doing anything to Tubbo because of Toast and Ghostbur, but if Toast still was hurt by Tubbo and the rest of the old L'Manburg government maybe he and Phil could talk to him.

"I, uh, I want to come back to life, I want to be alivebur so I can help Toast, cause if I remember why alivebur made Tubbo president then I could help you," Ghostbur said following Dream, Toast would need his help more than every. He looked back at Toast holding Friend's lead, but he knew it wasn't actually Friend. He quickly wiped away blue tears so the others wouldn't see them. "I promise I'll make that potion for you Toast!"

"You need a potion?" Techno asked, "I have plenty of those."

Toast hesitantly nodded, "Fire." Maybe Techno could be a friend, he did let him burn the disk. But he looked at where L'Manburg once was, now a crater and beyond repair. Technoblade had caused this. "Why?" He didn't understand how Techno's hated of government turned into this.

"We needed to send a message," Philza said coming up from behind Techno and standing next to him, "I'm sorry you didn't remember."

"Why," Toast asked, his voice broke at that one word, he felt tears come down, they burned his face. Why couldn't he remember anything past... past Dream blowing up Logstedshire, no, but that was impossible, Dream was his friend, Dream would never... right? "Potion." He needed to be able to say more than two words at a time before his throat burned.

"Here," Techno handed over a corked fire resistance to Toast. He tore off the seal and drained the potion. As it washed down his throat he felt his entire body cool and the burning sensation he constantly felt subsided, he finally took in a clear breath. Tubbo was still there, feeling awkward in the presence of three of the people who had blown up his nation.

"You know I was starting to think you weren't as bad as I thought even after Schlatt's death, but then I saw this," Toast said, "you just couldn't leave L'Manburg alone, you son of a bitch."

"They tried to execute me, you all betrayed me, I was transparent with you all in what my ideals are," Techno said, of course he would try and turn this on him, "I was especially honest with Tommy! I trusted him, I trusted him as much as I do Phil."

"This was my home! So many people lived here!" Toast screamed, "why do you think I want to burn those damned disks!"

"I can help you, but because Dream has the last one that will make things alot harder for me," Techno said, trying to calm him down.

"Dream's my friend, I'm sure he'll just give it to me," Toast said.

"Dream's not your friend," Tubbo said, "he never was."

"You don't have any right to say that," Toast snapped, why did he have so much pent up anger towards him? "You didn't come visit me in exile, not even when I invited you!"

"None of us got-" Phil started.

"I was never invited!" Tubbo interrupted, "But you're too stubborn to let me explain anything! Did you ever think that I was busy fixing your mistakes to worry about you!"

"He was right," Toast stepped back from him, red tears coming down, "you don't care about me, none of you do. Dream really is my only friend."

"Tha-that's not what I meant, Tommy," Tubbo said, reaching out to him.

"Maybe it's better when I can't speak," Toast muttered, seeing how he had hurt Tubbo, realizing that he really didn't want to, "then I can't, hurt, any, one." His throat closed up as the potion effects subsided. So, much, pain.

"May-maybe I should see if Wilbur's alright," Tubbo said, he didn't have anything better to do, and someone should be there if it works, "I'm sorry Toast."

Alright here's some Tubbo and Tommy angst for you lot. Just a fun little au idea I had.
