Rewriting the Stars |James Rogers|

| 2042 |

"James please you can't go," James Rogers, the son of Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff was pulling on his suit to travel back into the past, his best friend and his girlfriend were pleading for him to stay.

"Torunn I have to do this," He said to his best friend, Morgan Stark, who was staring at him with a dagger in her eyes.

"James," Torunn said softly, "I don't think you should do this, you are gonna rewrite history. What if you change something? Like what if we don't meet?"

"Guys, our parents had a way to prevent the changing of the future, we can do it too. I won't miss a thing up." James promised, "I need to see her Torunn."

"James," Torunn sighed, "I know you miss them, both of them-"

"You don't understand." He said. "You and Morgan knew both of your parents. I don't know either of them! My father didn't know about me, he left, he thought he had nothing left, my mother was gone before I could even remember her." Morgan frowned "I need to see them, and if I can fix it and we can be a family than I'll do it."

"Ok." Morgan nodded. "You go do what you need to do, I'll support you unconditionally you know that."

"Thank you," he smiled. "Torunn?"

"You're an idiot Rogers, but I know even if I don't agree you'll do it anyway." She smiled. "We support you, but you should go before my dad, Cassie, Scott or Azar comes and stops you. But I'm going with you." Morgan said.

"No, you aren't." He said

"I'm your girlfriend. Do not argue with me, I know my father, I know how to make him agree with things."

"May I remind you that that isn't the same person you knew before?" Morgan said.

"Doesn't matter. I'm going with and nothing y'all can do will stop me." Torunn said. "And if we're being honest, I'm much better at this than you, you know saving the world is kinda my specialty"

"Fine." He sighed. "But don't expect me to like it."

"Cool, let me go get my sword," She smiled and held out her hand, the two best friends watched her waiting for something to happen. "it takes a little while, you have to give it time." She said and just then a sword appeared in her hand and she looked at them with a smile. "Told ya."

"Remember you can only stay over there for so long, this isn't like my dad's machine, it isn't perfected yet." Morgan reminded. "I'll signal for you when it's time to leave."

"Don't worry we'll be done in no time," James promised.

"Okay, you all be careful, and if I am not longer here when you return, well remember as I am not-" she sighed when she turned and they were already gone. "Stupid suits. See you all in a minute, thanks for the goodbye. The disrespect."

|2018|

The blurring tunnel of colors surrounded the two, there was nothing in sight and it almost looked like the tunnel would never end. James was scared they had messed up, that he would never have a chance to see his parents. He was losing hope when suddenly he was being thrown against a wall.

"oww." He groaned and he heard a snicker coming from behind him.

"You need to work on your landing" Torunn smirked, a laugh still leaving her lips.

"Well I have never actually time traveled before," James said pushing away from the wall. "Where did we land? Better question when did we land, Morgan wasn't too specific, maybe we shouldn't have just let, we should have listened to her. Ugh, we are never going to hear the end of this."

"According to the tracker, we are in 2018," Torunn replied. "Right after your parent's dramatic 'civil war."

"Hey, you don't know the just of it, don't judge."

"I am just saying Rogers, my parents were not involved in that petty fight."

"Whatever." He groaned. "So I figure we find my parents first-"

"Why are we finding yours? Morgan said we find her father first." She saw the disappointment in James's eyes. "I know you want to see them, however, if you want the plan to work than we should you know stick with the plan."

"I know, it's just, I am finally in a world where my parents are alive. I just... I want to see them." He sighed. "Alright let's go find Stark and then my parents."

"Listen, kid, Mr. Stark is with his fiance at the moment," They were talking to the head of security, Happy. They knew him from their present time, he was like Morgan's father.

"Listen, tell him that we need to speak to him. It's important."

"And who exactly are you?" He asked hands on his hips. "Mr. Stark doesn't usually meet his fan club."

"Trust me we aren't his fan club.." Torunn sighed. "Just tell him to get down here, it has to do with time travel and saving our parent's lives."

"Tony may be a genius but time travel doesn't exist kids. Where are you, parents?"

"That's what we are telling you Happy, we need Starks help to find out parents and save the world," James said and knew he sound crazy, but it was the truth, he needed Happy to understand that. "Just please get him."

Happy stared at them as if studying them, trying to figure out if some chance they were lying, that this was all one big prank. Even looking for the smallest hint of a smile. When he saw none he sighed and pulled out his phone dialing Tony's number.

"What is it Hap? Ruining romantic time." James, thanks to his super hearing, heard Tony answer the phone in an annoyed tone.

"There are so kids out here, claiming they need to see you... to save the world."

"Happy, I told you-:

"Yes I know, not to bug you but these kids really need to see you," Tony sighed on the other end. "Five minutes. That's all they get. Tell them to have a pen and paper ready for autographs." He hung up the phone and Happy looked at the kids.

"Let's go," He said and lead both of them to the elevator. "How did you two even get passed the security outside?"

"What do you mean? We just walked in." Happy only grumbled at the lack of work ethic from the security team. James gave Torunn a look, they both were dressed in a much more casual 2017 dress, and ready to blend in.

Once they reached Tony's floor, the elevator opened for them revealing an elegant hall, pictures of new york hung all around the hall. James and Torunn walked out and began to hear the angry mumbles of Tony. Pepper was, of course, trying to calm him down.
"Just say hi to the kids Tony, this could make their day."

"I am not a genie Pep, I don't make dreams come true." He complained.

"Do it or you'll be spending the best of tonight alone, and the next week." She threatened, which of course was followed by a gasp and angry compliance.

"Mr.Stark." Happy announced and the pair turned toward Happy and the kids. "These are the kids."

"Okay, kids. One autograph per kid, and one selfie for the group."

"Actually we aren't here for autographs," James said. "We are here to provide you with a warning."

"A warning?" he laughed. "About what."

"In a year's time, an evil villain will make his way to Earth, with a plot to destroy the world we know today, he will come to destroy." James looked at them seriously. "No one is safe, and if you don't do what we say your worlds will be greatly disrupted." Everyone was silent staring at James until Tony spoke.

"You should be a writer, that was a nice kid. Okay so who wants an autograph." He asked.

"We aren't joking and we can prove it," Torunn said. "What day is it?"

"November 18th," Pepper said, she too was now playing this game.

"Perfect. In five minutes, at 9:15, the president will go on the TV stating there has been spotting of the fugitive Sam Wilson, and are looking for anyone who might be willing to give up information over him or any members surrounding the three fugitive. Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson, and Natasha Romanoff." Torunn had the gift of seeing what happened in the past.

" Really? That is insane. Friday turn on the news, let me know if anything of the sorts comes up." Tony said.

"Yes, Mr. Stark."

"Your Pizza is done," Torunn said, and right as she said that a beep went off from the kitchen, Tony and Pepper shared a look before Pepper excused herself to go and fetch the pizza.

"We aren't asking you to believe, we are asking you heed our warning," James said. "Please."

"Mr. Stark, Sam Wilson has been spotted in Michigan, the president is looking for help in the capture of him," Friday responded after a few minutes.

"Okay," Tony said. "Lucky guess, Sam is a newbie, he will likely have been seen-"

"That package you sent Natasha, she sent back. In fact, Happy will receive a message about the return of the package."

"You're sending things to them Tony?" Pepper asked.

"No, I am sending things to Natasha." He clarified. "And I really doubt that she is going to send them-" He looked at Happy and sighed. "Let me guess you got the message?"

"Yes, sir."

"Okay, fine. Let's say I believe you all." Tony said. "Why are you here telling me about something that will happen in a year?"

"We are trying to prevent a course of events that will ruin not only my life but the life of your daughter. and many other children." James said, knowing he had finally caught his attention.

"I don't have a daughter."

"Not yet." He promised. "Please, I need to talk to you and the rest of the Avengers."

"There are no Avengers."

"No, but you can bring them together and you will, that is of course if you want to live long enough to watch your daughter grow up." James and Tony stared at each other for a bit everyone watched the two in anticipation.

"What makes you think they will even show up?" Tony says.

"Because they are your friends,"

James and Torunn were in the kitchen, eating the pizza that was leftover from last night. The pair was incredibly glad that Tony believed them, or least pretended to believe them, but that only sent a wave of emotions flying through James's body. It meant he was going to see his parents.

"Hey," Torunn said. "Are you okay?"

"Tor, they don't know, they won't know because I don't exist yet, but I know them. Do you know how hard it's gonna be? I want to go hug them and tell them how much I miss them, but I can't. It's so goddam messed up."

"Think of it this way," She put her hand atop his. "If we successfully succeed, you're parents won't be gone anymore. You can grow up with the family you always wanted and not with Uncle Bucky."

"He wasn't the best caretaker." James joked. "I feel like I ate so much dry cereal for breakfast because he burnt dinner." He laughed. "I am gonna miss that if everything goes right."

"This is a good thing, James. We are gonna save a lot of people, not just our families." She reminded. "So many people were lost that didn't need to be lost, this will make amend, stop Thanos before he even comes. That's the plan."

"I know."

"We are going to succeed." Torunn said, "This is going to work."

'I know it is because I don't know what I'm going to do if it doesn't."

"Hey you two, hate to ruin the moment," It was Tony, "That's a lie, I actually don't care, I got Cap and Natasha, Thor and Bruce even showed.  Now can we get this over with?" The kids stood from their seats and followed Tony.

Tony took them to a landing pad where two planes were coming in at the same time. James took a deep breath, and as Torunn moved past him she squeezed his hand and smiled before releasing it.

"This better be good Stark." A female voice rang out. "And if this is a trap I will personally murder you,"

"Oh Natalia, aren't you a joy?" Stark sarcastically. "Don't worry I am not turning yall in, I am not stupid."

"What are we doing here Stark?" Thor asked. "Banner and I are busy."

"Hey don't gang up on me just yet," James watched in awe as his parents came walking down the plane's cargo hold and he couldn't help but notice his mothers loving beauty as he remembered from pictures, his father looked strong and wise as he has been told, he couldn't help but smile. "I know this is going to sound crazy and you'll well at me forever but listen when I say it, I didn't believe it at first either. If you need proof... well be careful on that, they know a lot." He mumbled the last part. "Guys, this is James and-"

"Torunn?!" Thor gasped, and Torunn looked rather confused and unsure why her father knew her.

"Excuse me?" She asked.

"How did you know her name?" Tony asked.

"What kind of father would I be if I didn't know the name of my own daughter?" He asked and everyone stared at him in shock, James shot Torunn a look.

"How do you know who I am?" She asked, her breath shaky.

"My mother wrote a book before she died, and an Asgardian Maid of hers gave it to me, it was prophesied and tales of the future. I know those eyes anywhere." He smiled. "You radiate the glow of Asgardian princess, a warrior, and a goddess."

"Thank you, it's really good to see you." She smiled, she couldn't help herself. "You look healthy and not..."

"Fat." James couldn't help but say with a laugh, to which Torunn jabbed him in the stomach with her elbow. "Sorry"

"Wait what did he say?" Thor asked,

"Can someone tell us what the hell is going on?" Steve finally asked. "I can't be the only one lost right."

"Right," Tony said. "As I was saying, this is James and Torunn, they claim they are from the future, apparently it's true, and as they failed to mention, the girl is Thor's daughter, and they have come to give us a warning."

"A warning?" Natasha said. "On what exactly?"

"A warning that you all need to work as a team. You all need to forget whatever the fuck it was that you were fighting about. The only way you can win what's coming to Earth is if you are all together. You have to be together." James said.

"Who are you exactly?" Natasha asked. "Why should we trust you?"

"It doesn't matter who I am," James said. "But from the world, we are from, you all fought a battle with scars lacing your hearts. You didn't work as a team, one after another you sacrificed yourselves, you ended it but at what cost?"

"If the situation is solved why do you want to change history?" Steve asked.

"A lot of people were hurt, good people. Souls were lost. The world, while saving just couldn't move on. They are stuck in an overwhelming loop, the economy is dropping, deaths are increasing, no one can live on, but if we prevent the overall battle, then Earth is better off."

"What if we don't succeed?" Bruce asked what they were all thinking.

"If you don't, according to our little genius at home," Torunn said. "We can change it back to the original timeline."

"Why do you two care so much? You have your parents." Natasha said. "You were probably not even born yet. What do you have to lose"

"Some of us have our parents. I lost mine in the battles. The aftermath." James said. "I know the pain of having to grow up alone, I don't want other people to have to go through that, and if I can prevent it from ever happening to anyone else than so count me in."

"If what you are saying is true, and we did believe you. What would we have to do?"

"Mend the broken trust, work together and find Thanos before he finds you. Bring together this team," James handed them a paper. " Of superheroes from all around the galaxy, with you all leading them in the battle you can defeat Thanos before he collects a group of Stones called the infinity stones that could potentially destroy the world and everyone on it."

"James we have to go, Morgan is sending for us."

"You're leaving?" Stark asked.

"We can't stay," James said. "We came to bring you together. We can't rewrite all the stars."

"James," Torunn pushed.

"Okay." He sighed. "If this doesn't work," he turned to his parents. "I know you have no idea who I am but I want you to know I love you both," now looking at Natasha. "You should never doubt yourself because, from what I was told, you were the best mother in the world, I want you to know that."

"James," Torunn's watch was blinking. "We have to go now."

"We believe in you." He grabbed Torunn's hand and Torunn activated the small device connected to her suit and a flash of light appeared around them and when it faded they were gone, leaving only the hope they left withing their parents. Hoping when they returned everything would have changed.

|2042|

"AHH," James yelled as he was thrown right into another wall. "Every time!" He complained and turned to see Torunn but she was not beside him. He frowned and his heart raced. "Torunn?!"

"James?" That wasn't Torunn's voice. He knew that voice and it pierced his heart. Why was the world messing with him in such a cruel way? "James, what are you doing down here?" Coming into view was his mother, dressed in a long flowy dress, something he wouldn't have seen her wearing from the time he remembered her.

"Mom?"

"Son?" She echoed.

"Is it really you?" He asked, almost afraid to hear the answer.

"Of course it's me. Are you feeling okay?" She asked placing her hand on his forhead, she was real.

"Mom!" He cried and wrapped his arms around her waist. He wanted to do this when he first saw her, it was so hard not to. "I missed you so much."

"I just went to the store." She said, although despite her confusion she wrapped her arms around her son.

"Am I interrupting something?" That voice! He was here too! James tore away from his mother and ran and almost tackled his father, although he didn't know him he felt love toward him. "Woah, are you feeling okay?" His father questioned.

"Never better." He mumbled into his shirt. Steve looked at Natasha, giving her a concerned look, she could only shrugged. "Torunn!" He yelled and ran upstairs to go call Torunn.

"What's going on with him?" Steve asked.

"I don't know but he gets it from you," Natasha said.

"Oh does he now?" He asked, wrapping his arms around Natasha's waist.

"Yeah, you both are utter dorks who love to hug way too much."

"Are you saying you don't like it?" He teased.

"Oh, now I didn't say that." She said.

"Hmm," Steve said smiling, making Natasha smile as well before connecting her lips to his. Still young and in love.

As it turns out, Torunn was safe with her father, she can't remember how it happened, but according to morgan who seemed really annoyed that they were bugging her, the battle against Thanos was different than how they remembered. No one was hurt. Everyone was alive.

"Time travel?" Morgan asked when Torunn and James were explaining to her what happened. "What are you Morty McFly?"

"Who?" James asked.

"Seriously Rogers?" Morgan said. "Uncultured swine."

"Look Morgan we are serious. You built us a time machine, we were from a world were your father, and James's parents were dead." She said. "Don't you remember."

"No, I am sorry I don't remember any of yall's weird delusions. Now if you'd excuse me, Harry is taking me out."

"Harry Hogan?" James asked. "You hate Harry, you're always yelling at him telling to do what you say."

"What are you talking about?" She asked. "and it's not a date. I don't date. Gross. He is taking me to Museum, dad won't let me take his car since the last time I turned it into a suit." She rolled her eyes. "Gosh, you make a small mistake."

"Do you really not remember anything?" Torunn asked.

"No. Geez if you guys started smoking something you should quit because it's really messing with yall's brains." She said. "Now out of my lab! I have to goooo."

No one remembered, no one knew of this alternate reality, well maybe except the adults who acted really weird whenever James tried bringing up the situation. It was probably due to if they told them they remembered the little interaction 18 years ago than they'd have to explain everything, something none wanted to do. Eventually, James and Torunn dropped it. They had their parents back, whether anyone believed them or not didn't matter, they were together now. The rewrote the stars.
