Penny for your Thoughts? |ValCarol|
1990's AU
Carol takes a trip around the world and meets a friend.
Carol was new to this small town in Scotland. She'd never heard of it before but when she decided to travel the world she wanted to visit more of the small unknown towns that have hidden gems. This place was called, Asguard, a funny name in her opinion, but she couldn't wait to explore.
She put all of her stuff in a hotel and decided she would venture off. She really wanted some food too, it's been a long ride.
She ended up picking up a sandwich and finding a nice spot by a fountain to sit and eat her food. It was nice, being here. Back home she didn't actually live the life she would have wanted. She often found herself daydreaming of more. She wanted more, she just didn't know what it was exactly.
She thought that traveling the world would allow her to learn what it was that she was missing. And beyond that, she was tired of working side by side the most annoying and disrespectful men in the universe. She desperately needs a break from their own stupidity.
So she decided to use all of her vacation days and took off. She didn't know if she was going to stay for the entire time of her vacation, but she knew that she was going to find some answers to her aching soul.
"You know, people say that if you throw a coin in the fountain and make a wish that it will come true," Someone said from behind her. "But that could just be a tale for children." Carol turned around to see a brunette woman sitting a bit away from her, legs crossed staring at her with a small smile.
"Do you not believe in fairytales?" She asked.
"FairyTales are just ways for kids to learn lessons."
"What lessons can someone learn from a fountain?" Carol pondered out loud. The woman across from her smirked.
"Not to waste money." She shrugged. "What's your name Blondie?"
"Carol. Carol Danvers." She replied with a smile, she placed her sandwich down on the napkin and then wiped her hands clean. She held out her hand for the woman. "What's your name?"
"Valkyre, but my friends call me Val." She answered shaking her hand. "You know, people don't usually come to visit our quiet little town. So what's the deal? Why did you come here?"
"I was looking for an adventure. Something new."
"Well I'm afraid there is nothing new here," She said and lifted her arms motioning to everything around here. "This town is beyond ancient. You aren't going to find anything new around these parts."
"I think great things are yet to be discovered."
"A bit of an optimist aren't you?"
"If that's what you wanna call it then yes." She shrugged. "So you know why I'm here, but why are you? If you don't like this town then why don't you leave."
"I never said I didn't like the town, I said it was old. I do very much enjoy the town, and all that it has to offer." She responded. "I don't want to leave this place, I don't plan on leaving any time soon."
"I wish I felt the same about my home." She said.
"Is that why you are traveling? Because you don't like where you live?" Valkyrie asked.
"Sort of. More of the people there. They are a bit reluctant to let me do anything I wanna do."
"Because you're a woman?" She powdered.
"Yeah, I'm assuming you know the feeling?" Carol asked.
"You could say that." She shrugged. "So tell me Blondie what is it that you do?"
"I'm a pilot."She replied sadly. "Unfortunately I don't do as much flying as I would have liked."
"Why not?"
"The men I work with don't see the point of letting me fly, they think I'd get distracted and I'd end up get hurt or worse, hurting myself." Carol could have laughed. "Unlike them, I'd never crashed, even a simulation. I'm probably the best damn pilot there."
"They are stupid for not letting you do fly then. It seems to me that someone with as much determination as you wouldn't let them get to you."
"I try, I try so much." She shrugged. "And for the most part, I ignore them and try and think on bright side of things. But lately holding it in seems to be very hard. I had to leave before I did something that I regretted. Besides I needed this vacation, it's nice to be in new and unusual places."
"Unusual? What are you talking about! This place is not unusual."
"Maybe not, but it's people certainly are," Carol smirked.
"Wow, very bold. Mocking a woman you just met," Val laughed. "I like you blondie. You shouldn't take that lightly, I don't like a lot of people. Well, I don't like most people. Actually I think you might be the only person I like." She laughed and Carol looked at her raising an eyebrow.
"Well I am flattered," Carol responded. "So now that you know a lot about me, tell me Val, what do you do for a living."
"I do a whole bunch of stuff. I am kind of a big deal around here."
"That's a very vague answer, most people would just respond with a reasonable answer."
"Well I like to be mysterious, it keeps people interested," Val responded. They smiled at one another before Val looked down and pulled something out of her pocket. Two pennies. "What do you say? You want to make a wish?"
"I thought you didn't believe in the fairytale."
"I said they just lesson for children, but that doesn't mean I don't like to act like a child every now and then." She shrugged.
"You know, you seem to say a whole lot of things that you don't mean."
"Like I said Blonde, I like to be mysterious. Now, what do you say, wanna make a wish?"
"Okay." She said and took the coin. Val smiled and without looking at the fountain she tossed it in, she kept her eyes trained on Carol. Carol smiled and looked away tossing her own coin in the well, with a smile.
"What did you wish for"
"I can't tell you," Carol responded. "Or else it won't come true."
"You really are a child," Val smirked. "Now it's almost two o'clock I should be going."
"Why?"
"Someone will be looking for me, actually I think that's him now." Carol turned around to see a blonde man walking toward them. That must be her boyfriend or husband. They didn't look like they'd be siblings, and the look on his face as he looks at Val was not a look siblings gave one another.
"Who's that?" She asked anyways.
"Danvers. This is Thor." Val responded once the man approached. "This is my dear friend, who is visiting me for the day."
"Just making sure Val here isn't destroying the kingdom. Or running away from her royal guards." He gave her a pointed look.
"Wait what?" Carol asked. "you're a royal? You're a princess? Wait a queen!?"
"Why Val here is a king. She refused every other title."
"If I want to be a King I can be a King." She smirked and then turned to look at Carol. " The guards have too much attention. I like to sit in peace."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"I told you I like mysterious. And you don't really push for real answers." She shrugged. "Now I really should be getting back to whatever it is that I do. It was nice meeting you Danvers."
"It was great meeting you, someone who actually understands me," She said.
"This fountain looks great at night." She said with a pointed look. And for the first time, Carol knew what she was getting at. Carol nodded and Valkyrie smirked at the her before walking away.
There was a chance that this vacation would last a bit longer than expected.
