Prompt
What if when Steve whet back in time he was able to get Natasha back?
Sorry to cap and Peggy fans, I have a ship to maintain.
Also, read my review of the endgame. I need to rant.

It was like looking at a ghost. Looking at the red face once more was as if looking at death its self. He never thought he would see the Red Skull ever again if he had anything to do with it.

"Captain Steven Grant Rogers, Son of Sarah Rogers." He spoke, his voice lone and cold. He stared down at Steve as Steve stood there in shock. "You are the reason I am trapped in this life, to serve as a guide to the soul stone. But it seems as if you don't need a guide for you already have what was lost."

Steve watched him carefully. He was very different from the last time he was face to face with him. But he still managed to keep the same feeling of disgust.

"I am here to return what was taken, it will remain here," he sighed remembering the price that was paid for the stone to be in his hands. "Never again will someone come for the stone, that is a price that weighs heavily."

"You lost another love I assume?" He asked and Steve looked at him questioningly. He had just returned the tesseract and saw Peggy. He was tempted to go after her, but she had a whole life ahead of her, and something was pulling him from sharing that life.

"If you assume I lost Peggy once more, I rather say I never lost her, I still have her love even if I can't have her," He spoke with remorse.

"I am not talking about her Captain." He said and Steve watched as the figure moved toward the end of the cliff and pointed toward the bottom. "that is where your new love is. What a death, never in my time have I seen two people fight over death."

Steve felt the breath taken out of his lungs. Natasha died a hero. He had to remember that. He couldn't let Schmidt get to him.
"how can I return this stone?" he asked holding up the soul stone in his hand.

"It's a shame really you could save her. But I guess repairing the mistakes are more important than her." Schmidt said before turning towards him. "Now captain Rogers to return-"

"Wait no," Steve said before he could continue. "Did you say I could get her back? I can bring Natasha back!"

"The price for a life is simple Captain. A life for a life." Steve was in a panic, he could get her back. He could retrieve Natasha.

"How do I know you aren't lying?" He asked watching Schmidt's face closely. Schmidt smiled under his cloak, one of which he was hoping that Steve wouldn't see.

"Trust is a key component of living your best life Captain," Steve knew his plan, he knew that this might work, but it might not. But he also had four stones left. Soul, Power, Time and Mind.

"My entire life I have felt out of place. And then I became who I am today and I still don't know who I am. But the one time in my life where I felt like I was able to be me was when I was with her. People say when you find the love you shouldn't let it go, and I don't plan on doing that." Steve took the hammer in his hand conjuring mass electricity took the four stones in his hands and used that energy to hit the remain stones.

"You foul!" Schmidt yelled. Steve focused his thoughts on Natasha and everything she was to him as mass electricity was hitting everywhere. He recalled their time at Fury's 'grave,' Sam house, the escalator, Sokovia, when she saved him countless time, the day they were reunited, everything that they ever shared was running through his mind at that moment.

Natasha and Steve were sitting in the compound, looking at pictures of those who disappeared. Natasha was almost in tears. Steve looked over at her and then turned off the screen. Natasha was about to say something but Steve interrupt.

"You need to get your mind of this, You have been staring at the screen for hours. Nat everyone knows how hard you work, please let's go watch a movie."

"Steve Rogers, the man who doesn't give up one bit is telling me to take a break?" She asked him raising an eyebrow.

"That's how you know this is really bad." Steve sighed he reached out for his jacket and through hers at her as well. "come on,"

"You want me to go with you after your through my jacket at me? What a gentleman rogers," She snickered but put her jacket on a sign an agreement.

"Trust me this is gonna be a lot better than feeling useless staring at a computer."

"I don't know Rogers this is some pretty fun times I am having, look at me," She pointed at her face that has clearly been crying. "This is the look of someone who is having an absolute blast," Steve smiled and held out his hand.

"Do you trust me?" He asked with that smile once again. She gave him a very similar smile looking over at him.

"You know I do,"

"AHHHHHHH." He groaned in pain as the electricity coursed through his veins. He tried focusing on the memory that was taking over his brain. This was something he held dear to his heart. This moment.

"Steve!" she laughed her gorgeous laugh of hers as they ran through the sprinklers of the new Avenger facility. "Why are we doing this?" She asked as he pulled her along.

"I told you I would get you a proper meal and how can I do that if you don't have anything here," Steve teased, "Besides I am sure one burger won't make you look bad if that's even possible."

"Are you flirting with me, Rogers?" She asked as he took her over to his car. Steve smiled opening the passenger side for her. Natasha smiled at him for his gentlemen actions.

"would it be so terrible if I was Romanoff?" he asked giving her a charming that would knock anyone to their knees. Natasha tried desperately to hide the blush that was appearing on her cheeks.

"well, that is undetermined so far, let's see how good this burger is first." she smiled.

"Well lucky for you I'm very patient." He said in a soft voice as she sat down in his car. A strand of hair fell on her face-framing it perfectly allowing him to see her beautiful green eyes stare right up at her.

"You're gonna need that with me,"

The memory sent a smile to Steve's face and the feeling of the pain started to fade away slowly. Instead of the burning feeling, his heart was racing with anticipation. He waited for his vision to clear so he could see if it worked. Right away he noticed Schmidt was gone.

The world around him was quiet, almost too quiet. He wanted... no needed her to be there so badly.
"Natasha?" He let out in a whisper, there was no answer. He closed his eyes tightly thinking of her. She was his last chance of being happy. He wouldn't let his heart be taken ever again. He looked down as a tear fell from his face to the floor.

"I told you that you have to be patient with me Rogers." Steve's heart almost fell out of his chest at the sound of that voice. He looked up and almost died. He quickly rose to tackle the redhead woman in a hug.

"Nat.." he sighed talking her in his arms.

"Steve..." She said wrapping her arms around her neck. "What happened? I don't remember anything."

"It doesn't matter, all that matters is that you're here. You're alive and well." He said hugging her so tightly she might faint.

"I won't be if you don't let me go, Rogers," She whispered in a laugh. Steve shook his head in the hug.

"I am never letting you go ever again," He said into her shoulder. Natasha was confused because nothing ever really happened between them and Steve was never one to show so much affection. Steve felt bad for not telling her what happened, Thanos, the return of their friends...Tony. But right now he only needed her.

"Steve the stones. You're practically glowing." He noticed that he still had three stones left, he assumed the soul stone was placed back where it belonged.

"I have to return these stones." He said. "Come with me," he was not going to let her go until he was done and got himself back as well.

"You know I would go anywhere with you,"

Steve and Natasha were returning the last stone, the time Stone, back in 2012 to the ancient one who took and thanked them for their heroism.
"Ms. Romanoff, what you did, the risk you took, it's seen by the world by many forces. Without your risk, Thanos would have destroyed much you will forever be thanked by the earth."

"I did what I had to do for those who had nothing," Natasha said and then looked over at Steve who was smiling warmly at the amazing woman in front of him.

"Are you ready to come home now? A lot has gone on that we need to talk about," Steve said to her, Natasha nodded her head and they both said goodbye to the ancient ones before putting their suits.

"See you in a minute," She smirked.

"You better mean it this time," Natasha took Steve's hand into hers, silently curing the suit from touching his actual hand.

"You trust me right Rogers?" She asked. Steve would have answered right the second if he didn't get lost in the moment, trust was their thing, they trusted one another and this promise would mean nothing to anyone else, but to them, it was raw and beautiful.

"You know I do,"

" Get him back!" They heard Sam's voice rang through ears as they traveled back into their time. Steve held Natasha's hand tightly as if she was a dream and would disappear the moment they return.

"Nat?" They appeared back in their time and they took a moment adjusting to their feet once more. Natasha, still holding Steve's hand, looked up and saw Bruce/Hulk staring at her and Sam was first to approach her, shaking his head.

"I'm seeing ghosts now," He muttered reaching out for her face, just as Natasha removed her suit. "Are you real?"

"Of course I am an idiot." She muttered making Sam smirk dragging the redhead into a hug. Bucky was shaking his head in disbelief, he noticed Steve still holding Nat's hand and smirked.

"Only Steve Rogers would make such a risk for his girl," he said and Steve smiled at Bucky as Natasha and Sam pulled away.

"You scared us, girl," He said and then pointed at Steve, "He was a mess, glad you're back."

"Nat?" Bruce was still looking at Natasha, "But how this doesn't make any sense, it's not possible,"

"I don't know," She said hugging Bruce/Hulk, "but I don't care, I am back and you guys did it, you saved the world," she said.

"We did it because of you," Steve said appearing behind her, "We wouldn't have gotten this far without you,"

"Tony-" she stopped when she saw the raft in the middle of the lake, she knew, she wasn't the best spy in the world for nothing, "should be very proud,"

"No," A voice said behind them. They all turned around to see Clint and his family standing there in disbelief. Clint holding back his tears.

"Auntie Nat!" Lila yelled running to her aunt in a hurry, she came crashing into her aunt along with her brothers. They shouts were of how much they missed her, they told us you died, you saved our dad, Natasha hugged them all for dear life. When she pulled away Laura was quick to hug her.

"Don't you ever be so stupid again," She muttered, tears running down her face, "Thank you," She whispered. Natasha smiled into the hug and then pulled away to look at Clint who held his hand up stopping her from approaching.

"I watched you die. I watched you fall to your death to save MY life, you aren't here." He tried convincing himself to wake up from this dream. When he realized it wasn't a dream he said in a very broken voice. "How are you live?"

"I don't know, all I remember was watching your body hang there and then I felt the electricity and woke up," She looked at Steve, "Someone was patient, but Clint I'm here-" Before she could finish Clint took his friend in hug lifting her off her feet.

"I swear to god don't you ever do that ever again." He told her. 'Next time you left me to die do hear me?" he said.

"You know I can't do that Clint," She answered.

"And that's why you will always be a pain in my ass Nat," he said and then put her down. Natasha kept her face close to his and then moved away. "Don't let her be stupid Cap," he said and then the two sent him a questioning look."Oh please, you can tell from a mile away, I'm happy for you Nat,"

"Thank you Clint,"

After much discussion, Steve handed his shield over to Sam. Sam held the shield and promised to honor Steve, but Steve told him to honor himself. Natasha said that was very cheesy.
"What are we going to now? You aren't CA anymore." She asked. Steve looked at her and took his hands in hers.

"I think it's time we get one of those life things Tony was talking about." He suggested with a smirk on his face.

"You first," She smirked as well.

"Not without you,"

"Good because," She took his hand. "They say every journey has end, am I'm glad that this is my endgame."
