Coming Out | Sarah Rogers & Romanogers |

| Sarah and Lila are the same age (15) because I said so- anyways prompt- Sarah comes out to her parents- also Pan Natasha because someone asked for a very specific prompt so no hate|

This was a request, so hopefully, I was able to convey what you asked

Sarah Rogers-Romanoff was many things, scared was not usually a feeling she was used to. Her mother was Natasha Romanoff for crying out loud. But right now she felt a little scared. She had a nervous feeling in her stomach that she simply couldn't shake away. Maybe it had to do with the little situation she was in at the moment.

See, Sarah Rogers-Romanoff was in a very uncomfortable predicament, she was finally noticing how attractive she found other people. Other people. Not just boys. Specifically, she was starting to notice how beautiful, Lila Barton was.

It was a brief realization, something that she didn't even realize was happening until it was there. She only realized right after one night she and Lila were hanging out and a little green monster decided to make its first little appearance.

"I just think that if he's gonna ask me to the dance then he should have done it already!"  Lila complained as she fell back on Sarah's bed. Sarah watched her, her eyes studying her best friend. "Do you think he even likes me?"

"Who are we talking about again?" Sarah asked her realizing that she hadn't been listening to her friends' issues.

"Jackson," She said thinking about someone she sat with in her class. He was a good kid, however, Sarah couldn't say she actually cared for the boy. "He would have asked if did wouldn't he?" Apparently, Lila thought otherwise.

"Why do you care so much? He's so blah,"

"He's cute," before she could finish speaking, Lila heard her brother calling for her. Her dad was there to pick her up. "Okay Sar, I will see you at school tomorrow." Sarah nodded numbly as she watched her best friend leave, during that moment she really felt like she couldn't tear her eyes away from her friend. She noticed her hair really suited her. It framed her face almost perfectly. That thought scared her. Why was she noticing that?  "Bye Sarah!" She said as she and Sarah numbly said goodbye. What is wrong with her?

That was a week ago. She had finally come to terms with the fact that maybe she was beginning to feel romantically toward one of her best friends. However, she doesn't know how to handle that. She doesn't know what it all means. Did that mean she was gay? But she remembered that she was also attracted to a male classmate a few months ago. So maybe she was bi? She didn't know, she really didn't know a lot of people who identified as bi. She began looking online, how was she gonna go about this?

"Hey love, dinner is ready," Sarah looked up to see her father at her door, and she quickly shut her computer. She wasn't sure if she was bi or what, however, she knew that her father may be a bit... skeptical about it. To put it nicely. She knew that her father was born in 1918, and things were different then. "are you okay?" He asked almost reading her like an open book.

"Yeah dad I am fine," She sighed. She didn't really want to talk about this with her father. Steve could sense something was wrong with his daughter but he knew better than to push her. Being married to Natasha for nearly twenty years taught him something, and that was 'never push a Romanoff to talk about her emotions'.

Dinner came and went and Steve and Natasha were cleaning up as their two teens locked themselves back in their rooms. Steve couldn't get it out of his mind, of course, something was wrong with Sarah, and there was only one person who could get the answer out of a mini Natasha. Natasha herself.

"Tash," He said while she put some dishes away. He was packing away the leftovers that he was sure would be gone in the morning, James was a night snacker.

"What do you want?" She asked.

"Why do you assume I want something?" He asked, he always wondered how she was able to do that.

"Because you called me Tash, you only call me Tash if you want something. Usually, it's 'doll' or 'babe' or 'Nat' if we are in meetings."

"You know it's both incredibly hot and incredibly scary when you read me like that." He admitted. She only smirked at him. "Anyways, I think something is wrong with Sarah."

"Oh, you're just noticing that?" She asked. "Honestly thought it would have been sooner."

"What- you knew?"

"Yes Steve, I know when my daughter's mood suddenly changes." She laughed. "Why are you bringing this up?"

"I think we should talk to her," He said, admitting his concerns for his little girl.

"We will do no such thing. Steve, what she is going through, it has to be something that she comes to us with."

"Do you know what she is going through?"

"I have my suspicions." She shrugged. "And before you ask, no I won't tell you because that is something she should come to us about herself. And no I won't spill because you will get the way you do and make the situation worse than it is."

"I don't do that!"

"Yes you do, honey. You're a worrier, that's what you do." She patted him on the cheek. "It's okay, sometimes it's cute. But other times, I gotta admit, I wanna punch you in the face."

"Will you talk to her then?" Steve asked drawing the conversation back to Sarah. He watched as Natasha sighed, before nodding her head slowly.

"I will talk to her, but I will not push her okay?" Steve nodded, he just wanted Sarah to know that they were there for her. Natasha squeezed his hand before walking up the stairs to her daughter's room. Natasha knew that if her suspicions were correct that Sarah was having a tough time admitting it to herself.

She softly knocked on the door and waited for confirmation from Sarah before walking in. She was sitting at her desk just staring absently at her pictures. But she tore her gaze away to look at her mother.

"Hey hun," She smiled taking a seat at the end of her bed.

"Hi mom," She said. "Did you need something?"

"No." she shrugged. "Just wanted to know how you are doing, you seemed kinda out of it at dinner, and I wanted to make sure that you are okay,"

"I am fine," She shrugged. "Promise." Natasha knew that Steve's suspicions had been correct however she was not gonna push her into saying something that she wasn't ready to share just yet.

"Okay, Just know that I am here for you," She smiled. "No matter what okay?" Natasha stood and was about to wish her goodnight and walk out of the room when Sarah spoke up once again.

"Mom?"

"Yeah?"

"What if I wasn't okay?" Natasha raised an eyebrow. "I mean like I am not sad or depressed or anything. I just mean I am confused." Natasha took a moment to think, processing her daughter's words.

"Confused in what way? You don't have to be specific if you don't want to."

"I have been feeling different and I don't know how to handle that," She puts it blatantly.

"Okay, what kind of different?" She asked her daughter gently.

"The type of different... I don't know how to explain it, mom."

"hmmm. I have an idea. Do you trust me?" Natasha asked holding her hand out to her daughter. Sarah gently nodded taking her mom's hand. Natasha stood and lead her out of her bedroom and downstairs. She ignored Steve's worried glance as Natasha walked out to the backyard to sit down on the swinging chair outside.

"Why are we outside?" Sarah asked curiously.

"Because I happen to do my best thinking here, I find it peaceful," Natasha admitted. "Maybe it can help you find the words to say how you feel. There is no pressure here Sarah, I promise whatever it is you need to tell me, we can handle it. Nothing will change."

"What if it does?" She asked. "I don't want things to change but the moment I say how I am feeling I know things will change, no matter the response."

"Sometimes change can be good," Natasha shrugged. "I know that it can be scary, but sometimes change can lead to the best and brightest outcome. Look at me, when I joined Shield, that was the biggest possible change that could have ever happened but it gave me all of the opportunities that I have today. Here, with you, James, and your father. Sometimes, while I know it's scary, you have to be willing to open yourself up to even the possibility of change and new beginnings. So take a deep breath and if you feel like this is something I need to know right now, then we can move from there, and if not we can go inside and steal your dad's ice cream."

Sarah thought for a moment, she let all of her conflicting thoughts flood her mind. She feels like her heart was beating a hundred times for minutes. She feels like everything is buzzing in her head but her mom was keeping her from flying away. She felt like she could tell her mother, but it was the words to say it that she found hard to say. Closing her eyes, she took a moment to calm her buzzing brain before letting out the words that had been lost in her mind.

"I think I have feelings for Lila." She sighed. "Like...more than a friend's feelings which is odd and unsettling I know but I can't help it. I don't know how to deal with this mom. She's my best friend, I don't even know why I feel the way I do, yet here I am, and I don't want to feel this way. I really don't but I can't help myself because a part of me wants to hold on to this perfect girl status, and these...feelings aren't something we talk about. I don't even know how it happened or when it happened it just did. I- how am I even going to tell dad? Will, he even understand, I am sorry mom-"

"Hey," Natasha said interrupting her daughter's minor panic of words. She knew Sarah was otherwise calm and put together, but when her nerves got too much everything just came out, she just let it all out in the open. She blabbered. "Don't you ever say sorry for how you feel do you understand?"

"I'm sorry," Sarah sighed, wincing again when she said sorry.

"Sometimes you are a lot like your father." Natasha smiled. "Sarah, honey, why would you ever think your father and I wouldn't accept you for who you are? We don't care about who you love, as long as you are happy."

"But dad...he's...he grew up differently."

"Your dad also married someone with a lesbian best friend," Natasha said with a smile. Oh. Sarah had completely forgotten about her Aunt Maria.

"Oh," She said, her cheeks red with embarrassment considering she saw her aunt at least three times a week. How could she have forgotten? "I forgot."

"Besides your father, know that I am pansexual."

"You are?" Sarah asked, her eyes going wide. "I didn't know that either."

"Sarah listens to me, loving who you love isn't a bad thing. Loving who you love is a beautiful thing, do you hear me? Never let anyone say that it's a bad thing." She placed a hand on her daughter's knee. "You can't control who you fall in love with, but you can control the way you choose to love yourself, and before you can even think about loving someone else you should first love yourself."

"You don't think I really like Lila?" She asked a little disappointed.

"No. That is not what I am saying. I am saying that you are a beautiful young girl that should first prioritize herself before anyone else. Right now you are facing a lot of inward conflicts and before you can even start something with someone you should be fully you. Do you understand what I am saying?"

"I think so."

"Sarah, there is nothing more painful than falling for someone who can't love you back, and I don't want you to go into this all blind. You don't have to listen to me if you want to tell Lila that's your choice, if not, you can focus on who you are, and figure out more about yourself."

"Is Lila straight?" Sarah asked finally understanding what it was her mom was trying to tell her.

"I do not know. I know she likes boys, you know that, but I am not one to label her sexuality. Listen, baby, I know it's hard to understand but you are gonna meet a lot of people, don't get too focused on the one who can't love you." Sarah nodded at her mom. "But if you do, and anything happens. I will be here because I love you and you can always come home to me."

"Thank you, mom."

"Of course," The two hugged silently as the chair rocked back and forth, the night breeze filling their cheeks with red. "And when you think it's time to tell you, dad, we will do it together. Or however, you want." Sarah nodded. "Now come on, let's go get some ice cream."

Natasha stood up about to leave when Sarah called her attention one last time. "Thank you for loving me, mom."

"Forever."
