An untold friendship | Coulson x Natasha |
This is not a romantic relationship, more of a friendship or father-daughter

Natasha couldn't really tell you what was so great about America because, in all honesty, she couldn't see anything so outright amazing. There were a few things that made her do a double-take but never anything that made her interested in discovering everything there is to know about it. That was of course until she met agent, Phil Coulson.
Natasha had been with Shield for about a month now, she's been in containment the entire time. She accidentally breaks one person's arm and they have to evaluate your mental state. She alone most of the time except the doctors they have come in and look at her. She hated them. She hates doctors, she was tempted to break one of their arms but she knew Fury would just lock her up if she did that. So instead she let them do whatever they needed so they could leave.
She wasn't allowed to see Clint, or he didn't want to visit her, she didn't really know. But she was thinking it was the latter option considering she got a package of books relating a lot to archery. He was an idiot if anything but she wanted to talk to someone to find out when she could leave. She needed to do something.
It was a week later after her month of containment that a man came walking into her 'room.' He was short, but not too short, average weight, he had dark brown hair, and a look on his face that resembled that of a kid pretending to be in charge.
"Agent Romanova."
"Agent?" She questioned. "Didn't know I was an agent. Does everyone get locked up in a cell before they can be called an agent or am I special."
"To be fair you broke a man's arm when you arrived."
"He was coming at me with guns, what did you expect?" She asked. "Have to be prepared."
"Agent Barton almost lost an arm as well as he tried to detain you."
"If I wanted any of you dead you would be, trust me."
"Believe me I know." He said. Natasha was confused as to why he smiled like he was a fan. "I've read your file."
"And now you know everything about me?"
"Not just the technical stuff, but that's why I am here. To get to know you." He said, still with that smile that she wanted to wipe off his face.
"Listen, I am flattered but I am not going to sleep with you. I was told I don't have to do that anymore and I am going to take advantage of that." She said bitterly. How amazing was it that she got to make her own choices about her body? Wow. Fantastic.
"Well, that's great. I am kinda in this on again off again flirting situation with my co-worker, we used to be partners but she took a desk job."
"Bored with you?"
"Ehh something like that. Who knows maybe one day our paths will cross."
"You are incredibly optimistic, I hate it." She said flatly. "If you aren't here for sex why are you here? The pirate send you here to do his dirty work? Going to determine if I am fit to join your team?"
"No. Director Fury has already come to a decision about your future with us. But he seems to think that you need more people skills. With agent barton away I volunteered to hang out." He seemed very pleased to be hanging out with her. This man had to be joking. "I am Phil by the way. I know who you are obviously. You're Natalia-"
"Don't call me that." She interrupted. "I don't want to be called that anymore."
"Oh okay, well we can change if you want. I can get your papers." Ha, as if she'd fall for that, she didn't think he would actually do that. He was trying to befriend her so she let her guard down, but that wasn't going to happen. "So why don't you tell me about yourself. What are your interest?"
"I don't have any."
"Well that's okay, there's always time to try out new stuff. Suck as knitting-"
"What am I? A 70-year-old cat lady?"
"No of course not." He sighed. "Okay, I can see that today is really not your day. That's fine we all have bad days, but the important thing to note is that you did really well. Everyone watching predicted you would kill me as soon as I walked in."
"Yet you still came?" She asked. She probably would have killed him, but she was feeling nice today.
"Yeah," A beeping noise went off causing Natasha to stand. "Hey hey it's okay, it's just my phone," He held up one hand as Natasha eyed him carefully. He slowly pulled out the phone and Natasha calmed down letting her fighting stance go. "Sorry kid looks like I have to go. I'll be back, oh, and here!" He went to the door opening it to bring in a bag he left by the door."
She cautiously took the bag looking inside of it. There was food, a Russian dish. Along with a fork, and even bottled water, so much better than what they've been giving her.
"They don't usually give me the fork until they leave," She nodded to the opening slip on the door. "Why are you putting so much trust in me."
"I know you can kill me with the knife, hell I know you can kill me with the bag. But call me optimistic when I say that you don't want to kill me. Not yet anyway."
"You think you interest me?" She teased.
"Maybe. A guy can hope." He joked as well. What the hell was happening? Why was she joking around with him? "See you, tomorrow kid." And he left, and for the first time since she came to America, she was stunned.
The next time she saw Phil was the next day. She was waiting for him to come back, she didn't know why. She wanted him to come back. She had discovered this new curiosity when it came to the man. This time when he came, he brought some stuff.
"These are the Captain America trading cards I got. It took forever to find every single one of them." He seemed very passionate about the cards. If she was being honest, the man, Steve Rogers, was incredibly hot.
"Captain America? Out of everything you could have called him, that's his name?" She questioned.
"Well he fought in World War 2 for America, it kinda seemed like it made sense at the time."
"That is incredibly stupid." She said. "Why are you obsessed with him?"
"Why aren't you? His story is inspiring. A young man who was sick all his life is suddenly the strongest person in the world! Incredible."
"Fake." She corrected. "A man like this, 'heart of gold' 'perfect solider' doesn't exist."
"But he did!" He exclaimed. "Can you imagine being in his presence?"
"I think I would hate him. Too patriotic for me. Seems like he would follow all the rules in the book."
"I heard he was a huge rule-breaker," Coulson muttered, he was upset she didn't share his love for the man. Natasha was amused. She was studying Coulson. Either he was a truly amazing man, or he was a great spy. She actually believed he cared about her.
The next few days Coulson continued to show up, bringing her food, new books, art supplies, and anything he was allowed to bring in. It wasn't until the day of her release that she saw that she wasn't just an assignment to him.
"What are you doing here?" she had asked him when he walked in on her last day.
"Well, I wanted to see you finally get out of here. See the world... or the parts of the world Fury is allowing you to go in."
"I see you heard of my little house arrest." She laughed. "He considers this freedom but I am only allowed in my shield issued apartment and the training facility. I don't need training."
"I have no doubt in your abilities. I think this is more about him wanting to see if you'll..."
"Deflect? It's okay you can say it. I know he's waiting for it. He doesn't trust me,"
"Don't feel too bad. He doesn't trust a lot of people" Coulson only shrugged.
"Does he trust you?" She asked out of curiosity.
"No. Maybe a little, but who knows. I'd like to think he does, sometimes it's hard to tell." He said. "Nick doesn't express his emotions too often."
"He lets you call him NIck, he let you in here, I think it's safe to say he trusts you."
"Well-considered me honored if he does." He still had the same look on his face, it doesn't seem to change no matter what he's talking about. "Here you go." He handed her papers.
"What's this?"
"The papers confirming your name change. Sorry, it took so long, I wanted to make sure everything was final and ready-"
"Did you actually do this yourself?" She asked. She knew the process was a long and tiring one, she was going to do it once Fury let her out of her cell.
"Yeah well, I told you I would." He said. "It's no big deal. I hope you don't mind but I took the liberty of decorating your house. No offense but you doesn't seem like the person who's into decorating."
"Did you add a captain America shrine?" She teased, giving him a smirk. She felt comfortable around him. The way he cared for her was that she vaguely remembered from her father. He was easy to talk to do, and for whatever reason, he cared about her enough to make sure she was eating every night.
"No...but I could. Bring some glories into your life," He said with a laugh. "I took the liberty of adding a ballet studio." Natasha looked up at him with a shocked expression.
"How did you know I danced?"
"What? Oh, you umm told me." She did but she didn't think he was actually listening. She had vaguely mentioned it, it wasn't like they had a full-on conversation on her dancing abilities.
"You were actually listening to me?" It was odd for her to have someone who truly wanted to listen to her.
"Of course, why wouldn't I?" He asked as if it was obvious.
"People only listen to me to turn my words around, use them against me. To make me into more of a monster than I already am."
"Monster? I don't think you're a monster," he said. "A bit moody, but not a monster. I don't fear you."
"You're either incredibly brave or a complete idiot."
"It could go either way," He laughed. "I guess it depends on the day. Oh I hope you like steak, I thought your first meal out of here should be nice. So wanna keep our daily dinners and go get some food?" He still wanted to hang out with her even after he didn't have to?
"I'm not allowed-"
"You are. With me, of course, but that's something right? I don't go on field missions so as long as you don't mind some company I can go with you." He was speaking so kindly to her she almost wanted to pinch herself.
Natasha didn't understand him. His kind ways. How every year on her birthday he would take her out for dinner. How if she deflected he was there. If she had nightmares he was there. He became the closest thing she had to a father.
Clint thought he was a bit odd, but maybe she liked odd. Coulson, besides Clint, was the first person to treat her like a human and she really couldn't repay him. He would forever, even long after his death, be the one thing in the world that interested her. Maybe her fascination with the man was the reason she fell so hard for the Captain.
Steve would be her connection to Coulson. Even if she knew he was still alive. Nick can pretend all he wants that Coulson is dead, but when she received an ominous note on her birthday every year along with flowers, she knew he was very much alive.
He had to be alive... who do you think walked her down the aisle?
Note
Hey guys I need to take break for a week, yesterday when I was driving home I was rear ended by a drunk driver and I hit my wrist really hard against the steering wheel. The doctors says it's sprained but not too bad so I am going to be wearing something on my wrist for a week to see if it helps. It's uncomfortable to type in. Right now I am using the voice thing on my phone to type. I wrote this yesterday before the accident and wanted it to be longer... but as you can see. That unfortunelty won't be happening. I hope you all understand and I'll see you really soon.
