A Lukesse (Lukas X FJesse) oneshot from my ideas list. Takes place in Season 1, Episode 1.

Jesse's POV

Axel, Olivia, Lukas, Reuben and I managed to bunk down in a small cave that was built into the side of the mountain, when Lukas, Axel, and J started to argue with each other. Finally, the argument got so heated after Axel and J blamed Lukas for Petra being left behind that Lukas said,

"I don't have to take this. Listen, why don't I just leave and let you guys hash this out?"

"You can't leave, it's dangerous out there." Olivia said worriedly.

"I can take care of myself, it's what Axel and J want right?"

"Let him leave if he wants to leave." J added.

"You're not going anywhere." I decided.

"But Jesse-" Axel started.

"That's enough! We're all on the same team now, he's staying." We all settled back down around the fire when it started to rain outside.

"Thanks for keeping me around, Jesse." Lukas whispered to me.

"Yeah..." I responded back softly as I petted Reuben and closed my eyes.

Time Skip

When I woke up, it was still fairly dark outside and everyone else was still asleep, so I decided to go and try to find some food for everyone.

I managed to tiptoe past everyone, even Reuben, open the door, with a slight creak, and step outside before jumping down from the doorway to the ground and only taking a small amount of fall damage by doing a somersault. I, then, ran quietly to the trees and began to pick some apples off the branches for the others.

Lukas' POV

I woke up to the sound of Jesse sneaking out of the shelter and I decided to follow her to make sure she was alright, otherwise her friends and brother would freak out if she got hurt by herself outside.

I was pretty far behind Jesse, when I finally managed to spot her, from afar, walking around the bases of the trees. Then, she decided to leap up onto a branch and climbed to the top of the tree with surprising zeal. I was shocked to see her climb so fast, but from what I've heard people in town say about her and Axel and Olivia, they lived in a treehouse outside of town, so it must be easy for them, but also lonely being away from society with only each other for non-teasing company.

Suddenly, a branch under Jesse's foot snapped and sent her crashing towards the ground which almost made me want to sprint foward and catch her. However, she managed to grab a branch that was close the ground, slide down, and let go as soon as she hit the ground and the branch snapped back into place.

"Ok, that was terrifying..." Jesse muttered to herself and was bonked on the head by a falling apple and automatically responded with an irritated "ouch".

She was readjusting her red hair clip when I came up to her and said,

"Jesse?" and she whirled around and almost punched me in the face, if I hadn't ducked out of the way.

"Lukas?!" She whisper-yelled as she breathed heavily, "What are you doing out here?"

"I think the bigger question is what are you doing out here, by yourself?" I asked her worriedly.

"I was trying to pick some apples so everyone could eat, but I didn't get very far." She said as she pulled out two apples from her inventory.

"Let me help you." I offered.

"Why?" She questioned with slight suspicion in her voice.

"Because I want to help out, to try to gain you and your friends' trust if we're going to be working together." Jesse thought to herself for a few seconds before saying,

"Alright, follow me." She gently grabbed my hand and pulled me to a slightly taller tree than the one she tried to climb before.

"Give me a boost." She asked and I kneeled down, put my hands together in a makeshift foot hold, and she launched herself up and onto the lowest branch.

"How are you so good at this?" I asked with disbelief.

"Years of practice with nothing else to do." She joked as she plucked some apples and dropped them down to me, where I caught, and pocketed, them.

"That should be enough!" I called up.

"Coming down." Jesse said before starting her descend down and stepping on another unstable branch and she fell down to the ground. This time, though, I managed to catch her bridal style as she shook some leaves out of her face.

"Oh, sorry about that." Jesse apologised and she started to blush brightly as I put her down.

"You're hurt." I pointed to the long scratches on her arm after handing Jesse all of the apples she picked.

"I'm alright, really." She tried to cover up her arm before wincing in pain as I took out a bandage and wrapped it around her arm.

"Your blood could've attracted zombies, but luckily it's morning." I said and we both watched the sunrise in silence before going back to the shelter.

"Hey, thanks for helping me out, you're not as bad as everyone thought and they'll see that soon enough." Jesse told me gratefully.

"Heh, I hope so..." I thought as we approached the mountain side and J was standing at the base looking furious.

"Where have you been Jesse?"

"Just getting some breakfast for everyone." She responded before pulling out an apple and giving it to her brother and handing the others to Axel, Olivia, and Reuben while giving me a smile.

"Did you do that?" J asked me, motioning to Jesse's arm and I nodded slowly, unsure whether he meant the bandage or the injury.

"Thank you for helping my sister." He patted my shoulder and gratefully smiled at me before going to check on his sister.

Maybe this won't be as bad as I thought...
