Free Fall
3rd Person POV in Beacontown
"Incoming!" Petra yelled out as she threw herself to the ground as another creature swooped down and attacked where her head had been mere moments ago.
"How many more of these things are there?!" J yelled as he dodged another dive from one of the flying creatures.
"Ivor, what have you done this time?!" Petra yelled out to the alchemist as he threw potions of harming at the creatures.
"It wasn't me! They're phantoms, they spawn around people who have insomnia!" Ivor yelled back, slightly offended at the accusation.
"Who's been staying up for days?!" Jesse yelled out to the Beacontowners as they ran around in panic.
"That's my bad!" A new voice joined in and Addie flew to them in her Elytra form as she grabbed a citizen out of the path of one of the creatures.
"Addie?" J yelled up questioningly.
"I'll explain later, let me just take care of these guys..er phantoms for you phantoms- ugh guys!" Addie tongue-tied right before she flew straight up and the phantoms followed her up into the clouds where a large 'Boom' was heard and several little blobs of white clusters fell from the clouds all over the townspeople.
"Eww what is this stuff? It's all slimy." Petra griped as she took one of the clusters off of her head, but it left a wet mark on her bandana that she quickly rubbed off.
"Where's Addie?" Jesse asked as she put her sword away.
"There she is!" A nearby citizen pointed to the shape that was falling from the clouds towards the center of Beacontown.
"She's not slowing down!" Another citizen pointed out and they were correct.
"Not again!" Jesse, J, and Petra all chorused as they ran over to the slime diving tower and took the slime from the bottom to make a platform for Addie to crash on.
Fortunately, Addie landed on it. Unfortunately, she landed at an angle and it launched her over the slime diving tower, into a tree, and she fell through to the ground.
"Addie, you really gotta work on your landings." Petra told her as she and J helped her up.
"I know, but after using a dark-plosion, it always makes me a little weak afterward." Addie responded back as she straightened her glasses out.
"What the heck happened out here?" Radar came running up to them, a little dusty after checking on the miners in the mines while all the commotion had been going on.
"This was on me..." Addie sheepishly smiled while raising her hand.
"Have you been staying up making banners again?"
"Again?" J questioned.
"Yeah, since I have experience with making banners, y'know from my time on the island, I thought I could open my own shop here and sell banners to the people and make this place more colorful."
"That sounds cool." Jesse commented sincerely.
"Unfortunately, I fell behind on some orders after an underwater mining trip to find lapis, so I tried to catch up by pulling all-nighters and-"
"-your insomnia led to those phantom things spawning." Petra interrupted to finish her sentence.
"Yep... Sorry about that, but hey the sun's coming up now." Addie gestured to the sunrise.
A phantom that spawned a few seconds ago started to burn up and its shrieks could be heard from the ground until Addie pulled out her bow and arrow and shot it down with a single poison-tipped arrow.
When she did, another white cluster fell down and landed on J's head.
"Oh gross! Another one of those slimy blobs." J took the cluster off his head and threw it to the ground while rubbing his hands on his shirt and shaking them in the air to get the slime off.
"That's not slime!" Ivor yelled excitedly as he suddenly appeared behind them making them all, except for Addie, yell out in surprise.
"Uh, it's not?" J paused mid-shake.
"No, it's-"
"Phantom membrane!" Addie finished Ivor's exclaim.
"Which, when brewed-" Ivor started to say before Addie interrupted again with,
"Can make Potions of Slow Falling!"
"Huh, you three never told me your friend here was a fellow alchemist."
"Because we didn't know ourselves." Jesse cocked her head to look at Addie.
"Well, I did have a lot of free time on the island and, aside from banner making, I experimented a bit with potions, that's how my highlight became emotionally sensitive." Addie pointed to the highlight in her hair as it turned light orange.
"Yeah, I've noticed that before..." Petra noted, "What does orange mean?"
"I'm excited because I'm about to go make me some Potions of Slow Falling." Addie shifted to her Elytra form and flew around town scooping up all the phantom membranes that were scattered on the ground and came back to the gang with her arms full of membranes.
"Well leave some for me!" Ivor whined like a little kid.
"Or maybe you two can go make those potions-" Jesse was interrupted by Ivor's exclaim,
"And compete to see who's the better alchemist!" Jesse, J, and Petra all facepalmed at Ivor's antic.
"Oh, I gotta see this." Harper chuckled as she walked over to the gang with a grin on her face.
"Hey Harper, it's been awhile." Jesse gave Harper a hug before introducing her to Addie.
"Now, let's go see about this alchemist-off." Harper put her arms around Addie and Ivor's shoulders as they went back to Ivor's house to brew the potions.
"What exactly does a Potion of Slow Falling do?" J questioned.
"Exactly what it sounds like, it makes people fall more slowly without taking fall damage." Petra answered, " So they could leap from the top of the highest mountain and survive."
"Let's hope it doesn't resort to that." Jesse told them uncertainly as they went about town making sure that everyone was OK.
A Few Hours Later
"Incoming!" Addie's voice yelled over the crowd of people going about their business.
"Is she crashing again?" Petra asked, thinking she already knew the answer.
"No, she's... falling slowly?" J cocked his head before he realized, "She drank a Potion of Slow Falling."
"Addie, are you doing alright?" Jesse yelled up to Addie as she landed on the top of a tree from the ground, "And how did you get up there, I thought Slow Falling would just make you... fall slowly?"
"Oh, Ivor and I brewed the Potions of Slow Falling, p.s. they're awesome!" Addie jumped up and floated back down before continuing, "Then, I remembered that I was behind on banner orders, so Harper gave me the recipe for a loom that she and Ivor found on their last expedition, I made the banners and now I'm delivering them." Addie ran out of breath by the time she finished her explanation.
"Addie, what did we say about simplifying your explanations so you don't hyperventilate when you're done?" Petra rubbed her forehead in annoyance.
"I did."
"Ok, well, where are Ivor and Harper?" J asked.
"They're helping me with the deliveries."
"Harper!" They heard Ivor's voice from across the street they were on.
"Uh oh." The four of them chorused worriedly before taking off running, and hopping in Addie's case.
When the gang arrived at the scene, Addie realized she had dropped all her banners as she had roof top-hopped, but didn't care as she and the gang saw that Harper was falling slowly to the street, but the potion swirls were fading, signaling that the potion was wearing off and the slime platform was on the other side of town.
"Uh, a little help here?!" Harper exclaimed worriedly.
Some citizens were running to get some slime, but Harper started to fall faster toward the ground as the potion wore off.
"Someone catch her!" Ivor yelled as he was still trying to make his way over to her very slowly.
"I'm on it!" Addie shifted forms and she sped over to catch Harper right before she hit the ground. Ivor's potion wore off a few seconds later and he threw a smoke bomb down to teleport to the ground from on top of a house.
"Whew, that could've ended badly." Harper dusted herself off when Addie put her down on solid ground and Ivor started to hug the life out of Harper, "I'm OK, don't fuss so much." She chuckled as she patted Ivor's shoulder while still in his death grip and he let go.
"Thank you for saving Harper." Ivor grabbed Addie's hands and shook them vigorously.
"N-no-o p-rob-blem." Addie answered, her voice shaking with how hard Ivor was shaking her hands and her glasses fell off her face.
"How come your potion didn't wear off sooner, we added the same ingredients?" Ivor questioned her as she patted the ground to find her glasses.
"Did you add Redstone to yours and Harper's? Redstone extends a potion's effect time." Addie asked as she pushed her glasses back onto her face.
"Yeeesss...."
"I'll take that as a no..."
"Therefore, Addie is the better alchemist." Harper raised Addie's right hand into the air until she pulled out back down with,
"This time. I still have a lot I could learn about potions since potion supplies were pretty limited back on the island." Addie rubbed her arm shyly at the mention of her former home/prison in front of Harper, "So I know how to brew potions, but I don't really have that much experience doing it. Plus, it doesn't help that my family's spell book also contains some old potion recipes, but they extremely dangerous and very particular about how, with what, and when they're made." Addie pulled out said book as she regained her breath, which made the twins and Petra shudder at it as they remembered what the book could be used for.
"Well, maybe old Ivor here could be your alchemy tutor?" Harper put her elbow on Ivor's shoulder as he grunted at being called 'old'.
"Fine, but only if you let me look at those forbidden recipes."
"I didn't say they were forbidden, just not recommended to make." Addie handed the book over to him and he started to read some of the recipes as the three of them (Ivor, Harper, and Addie) went back to Ivor's house for her first lesson.
"Well, that could've ended in disaster, as per the norm." Petra laughed dryly as she motioned to the people who were running their way with slime blocks, only to realize that they were not needed anymore.
"Yeah, having Addie around isn't always the easiest to deal with, but, you have to admit, there's never a dull moment." Jesse smiled as they picked up the banners Addie dropped earlier and proceeded to finish the rest of the deliveries.

AN- Hi Y'all! So I've been working on this short story ever since TheDreamerFrom04_YT posted Chapter 3 of The Dragonhearted where she and Ivor are mentioned to know about supernatural occurrences and it got me thinking. Ivor knows potions and Addie has attempted to make potions but her first times failed, so maybe I could write a short story where the two of them do an alchemist team-up/competition kind of a thing. How'd I do on it?
Also, I've posted it on my message board that my Oneshot and Short Story books are open for Requests and that offer is still standing, especially since Spring Break is coming up, so feel free to requests if you want to and I can work with requests that involve OC's.
See Y'all later, Bye!
