Hello (Aidkas)

Aiden ran in the rain, his shoes getting soaked with rainwater. But he had to keep running or else he won't make it. He turned the corner of the street and glanced at his watch.

He barely had less than a minute to get to the nearest phone booth.

"Oh come on." he muttered as soon as he was blocked by the sudden wave of people exiting a store. He shouldered someone aside and finally found the booth.

He grinned and unhooked the phone, dialing a phone number he knew so well.

Ignoring the pounding of the rain outside and the crowd of people, he strained his ears to listen for the familiar click. To let him know that someone had picked up.

"Come on," Aiden whispered under his breath, impatiently tapping his foot against the concrete.

Just as he was about to hang up and dial again, he heard a faint click of someone on the other end. "Hey."

That simple 'Hey' already made Aiden's knees weak as he smiled. "Hey yourself."

There was a soft laugh, making Aiden lean against the phone booth, which accepted his money and indicated that he had five minutes to talk to the love of his life.

"How are you?" Lukas asked softly, making Aiden close his eyes and pretend the beautiful blond boy was whispering in his ear.

"Pretty nervous." Aiden admitted, twirling the wire of the phone with his finger, "I mean, we're going to finally meet in a week. I cant stand the wait!"

Lukas laughed again, making Aiden sigh. He wanted to keep Lukas's laugh in his mind forever.. that was how much he was in love with the blonde.

Ever since Aiden had met him in school a few years ago, the two had been inseparable. In their second year, Aiden finally gathered up the nerve to ask the blonde out.

And to his surprise, Lukas agreed.

So they were together for two years. Two blissful, happy years.

However.

All that changed when Lukas's parents had to move out the country.

And the two had to say goodbye.

But that small matter didn't let that stop them though since they started calling each other.

Aiden always used a phone booth located in his town while Lukas used his home phone. And it worked out perfectly.

That... was love.

Aiden didn't care how long it took to get to the booth from his house. He would run through the wind and rain just to near his boyfriend's voice every day.

It was a little complicated though, since they only had a specific time they could call each other. Every day at two o'clock in the afternoon since that was the time Lukas was free from school.

Aiden didn't care how long he would wait. He just needed to hear Lukas everyday.

"How about you? How are you?" Aiden asked breathlessly, blushing as people outside stared at him curiously.

"Oh you know, I miss you so much.." Lukas replied. "And well, the people here are just as crappy as always, love. I miss your stupid jokes."

Aiden leaned against the glass panes of the booth, resting his head against the cool material. He listened to the rain above him, hitting the roof of the booth as he heard Lukas's reply.

Lukas missed him.

"It's boring here," Aiden admitted, opening his eyes to stare at the light above him, "I just wait for two o'clock everyday just to talk to you."

Lukas laughed again, since he was always such a gentle kid, laughing and joking around. "Me too.. but hey, we're meeting soon so that's nice, right? I'm glad my mom wants to visit Beacontown again."

"Anything to see you again, love." Aiden replied, glancing at the little digital panel on the phone. Two more minutes till he had to hang up. Great.

However, Aiden felt like crying all of a sudden.

Here he was, in a town so far away from his boyfriend, able to listen to him but out of reach.

Aiden wished he could feel Lukas's hand holding his again, or the gentle kisses the blonde always gave him.

"Only for two days though." Aiden muttered, placing a hand on the side of the glass. The warmth from his hand heated the glass, making a handprint with the condensation.

"But it's better than nothing, right?" Lukas's cheerful voice replied.

Aiden nodded, but managed to reply with a simple 'Yes', accidentally forgetting that Lukas couldn't see him nod.

"I miss you," Lukas whispered softly, just as the timer warned Aiden that he had barely thirty seconds left to talk, "And I love you," Aiden replied quickly, watching the seconds tick down.

"I want you to take care of yourself, okay? We'll see each other again, of course." Aiden continued. Ten seconds.

"Of course, same time, tomorrow?" Lukas asked, obviously knowing that Aiden had to go.

The lime eyed boy smiled to himself, "Duh, I love you so so much Lu-."

The phone clicked off, a dial tone signalling that their call was over.

Aiden sighed, resting his head against the glass again. He didn't have enough money to continue the call, and besides, he had to go home.

"Hello from the other side, love." Aiden whispered to himself, placing the phone back on the holder and opening the door of the booth again, just in time for him to be drenched with rainwater again.

With that, Aiden placed his hands in his hoodie's pockets, starting his long walk back home.

He really and truly loved Lukas.

Each day, Aiden woke up from his dreams, and always glanced beside him out of habit. Even though Aiden's parents forbid Lukas to ever sleep over, Lukas snuck in, just to cuddle with the lime eyed boy, safe in each other's arms.

The two boys always shared stories, some from childhood, some funny, some sad. But always together of course.

Aiden smiled at the memory of him and Lukas, their first date at a ice cream parlour. They had laughed so hard, Aiden somehow managed to get a brain freeze.

And afterwards, they got kicked out for laughing loudly. But heck, Aiden didn't care as long as he had Lukas by his side.

However...

Aiden turned the street, so lost in his thoughts that he didn't see it coming. Even after the driver tried to swerve out of Aiden's path...

he was too late.

[The Next Day]

Lukas threw the doors of the school open, a smile on his face as he wanted to tell Aiden the most amazing news ever. He was so excited, he had jumped down the stairs and nearly broke his legs as he skidded on the slippery ice.

It was nearly two o'clock by the time Lukas finally reached home, getting to the house phone he always used when calling Aiden. The blonde waited for it to ring, excitedly hopping around while clutching the pink slip of paper in his hand.

Lukas was going to move back to Beacontown early.. and he couldn't wait to tell his boyfriend the good news. The blonde sat by the phone, seeing the clock strike two. He smiled, ready to pick up the phone.

And Lukas continued to wait, even after the clock told him it was two- fifteen. Maybe Aiden was stuck in traffic? He did that once, which made Lukas very worried.

And it was such a relief when the lime eyed boy called.

Afterwards, Aiden always called the blonde at two o'clock sharp. No matter what, since Aiden promised that he would never ever want to worry Lukas again.

"Come on Aiden.." Lukas whispered under his breath, tapping his foot as he propped his head up with his hand, "Call me."

He continued staring at the phone, eagerly waiting for it to ring.

But..

If only Lukas turned around to see the news on the television... to see that a young teenager had been run over by a truck the day before.
