City Life (Jesskas)

Note: This was supposed to be a chapter about my OCs, Forest and Chase, but heck, never mind XD since this IS a MCSM book after all.

Jesse's PoV

Jesse flicked the ashes of his cigarette away, watching it drop onto the floor. Life was boring, here in the city, but heck, he'd make do.

"Yo Jay." someone called him, but Jesse didn't look up, still focused on the ashes near his shoes, "Hey, I'm talking to you."

He sighed, tipping his head up, "What is it Petra? What do you want?" he drawled, pushing his hair out of his face as he looked at the girl.

Petra Johnson, typical street thug and all around party girl, took the cigarette out of his hands and flicked it away easily. "There's been some news around the city rats that there's some weird straggly new kid. Blonde. Dirty mess."

"So?" Jesse asked, pulling out another cigarette from his pocket and lighting it.

"Soooo," Petra smirked, "That's your type isn't it? Blonde? Blue eyes?"

Jesse frowned, wishing he didn't tell Petra all about his affection for boys.

Something just didn't seem right, dating girls. So he hung around guys instead, but never flirting since he didn't really know how. He had some guys come up to him, ask him out but Jesse seemed to intimidate them instead...

"Jeez Petra," Jesse rolled his eyes, "How many times have I told you to stop playing matchmaker?"

"But I've got a good feeling about this new boy!" the girl grinned, straightening the rim of her baseball cap she always wore. "He's from the forest. Has a bow. But as feisty as you."

"I don't know if that's a compliment Pet. Since everything that comes out of your mouth is rubbish." Jesse pushed away from the wall and started to walk out of the alley he was in.

Petra sniggered, "Jesse Oswalt, you're rubbish then."

"Ha ha. Very funny. Now I gotta see this blonde for myself.."

With that Jesse walked away, curious by the boy who managed to gain his attention.

*************************

"Back off I say, you scoundrels!"

Jesse frowned, hearing someone shout from the alley he was walking past. No one from the city would actually talk that way, would they?

"No no no! Don't come any closer or I'll peg your butt with one of my arrows you naive!"

Yep, definitely that blonde Petra was talking about. Jesse looked up, to see that a wall was separating him from the boy and whoever he was talking to.

Jesse easily gripped the bricks and hoisted himself up, sitting up to see a blonde holding a bow and an arrow already ready to fire.

The brunette turned his attention to the person he was talking to, to realise that he was speaking to Aiden, his stupid rival. Always the first to cause trouble, the last to get caught by the cops.

"Awww come on pretty boy, don't you want to hang out with us?" Aiden was saying as he cornered the boy, who pulled back the arrow.

"You better watch your language, you fool, or I'll really hit you where it hurts." The blonde was saying but Jesse could tell that the Aiden's gang was getting restless.

"Don't be like that! Come on, join my gang! You can have food, water, shelter. Whatever you want!" Aiden offered slyly.

The blonde's bow wavered a little, Jesse noticing how tired he actually was. "Never. I know what bad people you are. Getting in trouble with the police and everything! I don't want that. Now leave me alone you jerks."

Before Jesse could process what happened, Aiden grabbed the front of the blonde's shirt and punched his face. "Say that again!" Aiden growled as he pushed the blonde to the hard concrete ground.

Jesse inched forward to jump down but he knew he had to see how this blonde handled things.

He didn't seem fazed at all though, to Aiden's surprise and disbelief. He just looked up at him, smiling despite the line of blood from his nose.

"You really think.. I'm weak to your punches? Try living in the forest." he pulled up his sleeve to reveal four lines on his arm. "With bears and foxes and wild animals." he explained.

"So your stupid punches don't scare me."

Aiden clenched his fists, and swung at the boy, who leaned back and let Aiden swipe at the air. "Missed me." the blonde smiled calmly, grabbing his bow and hitting the brunette's leg, making him fall heavily to the ground.

The blonde stood up, wiping away the blood from his nose, "Thanks for playing around."

He walked away, his bow propped on one shoulder as Aiden's gang members parted for him.

What... the heck was that? How could he be so calm? Jesse.. had to follow him.

Aiden groaned, standing up with the help of Maya and Gill but Jesse ignored them, going after the mysterious blonde.

Jesse followed him for the next three blocks, where he turned and headed to a alley Jesse knew. It was a rather clean one, but a bit dangerous since there were loads of ruthless gangs around.

"-gotta eat this, okay? Come on Dewey."

Jesse looked around the corner to see the blonde, crouched down and talking to an animal of some sort. "It's just fish." he was saying.

Jesse's hand slipped, accidentally making a piece of concrete break off the wall and fall to the ground. "Shit-" he whispered, starting to hide again but he was too late.

The blonde turned, his blue eyes wide with alarm and already nocking an arrow into his bow, "Who's there?" he demanded, narrowing his eyes at Jesse.

"Here to bully me, you naive?" he asked, pulling back the string and aiming right at Jesse's side. "I'm not scared of you!"

Jesse glanced down at the ground to see a cat of some sort, hiding behind the blonde's leg. But it looked different. "Is that.." he frowned, "An ocelot?"

The blonde raised an eyebrow, not lowering his bow, "So what if it was? One step closer, you're dead meat!"

"Look," Jesse held up his hands, "I'm not gonna hurt you. I just.. wanted to... get to know you. I'm Jesse, and.. and I saw the way you beat Aiden and his gang. I was-."

The other boy sighed, "Yeah. Hi. I'm Lukas. Are you here to just bore the hell out of me, or what? If you've got nothing of use, shoo."

Jesse couldn't help but be smitten by Lukas's bravery. And attitude. It wasn't everyday you'd meet someone who was so alike.

"I was just curious about you, okay?" Jesse admitted, folding his arms.

Lukas lowered his bow, "Huh. Well... I like you. You're honest. Kinda cute."

Jesse felt the blood rush to his face, hopelessly falling in love with the blonde. "I can say the same thing about you." he managed to say as Lukas smirked.

"Well Jesse," he held out a hand, "Nice to meet you. And now, I hope you like adventures."
