Honor the dead

(Warning: sad.)

I laughed, feeling the cold air nip my face.

"That.... was a good first date." I sighed, blushing.

"Y.... you really think so?" Asked Lukas, scuffing the snow a bit with his boots.

"Yep! And I uh......." I stopped my words for a second, staring at the snowy ground. "....hope to have another?"

Lukas' face turned red, and he looked away.

"I.... heh..... look forward to that." He said, smiling.

We stood there for a second longer, when Lukas broke the silence once again.

".....are you sure you want me to drop you off at the church?" He asked, skepticism tainting his words.

I thought about it, then nodded my head.

"...yes." I replied. "My parents are..... they're waiting for me...."

Lukas' skepticism disappeared, being replaced with his normal charming smile.

"Well..... You aren't going to drive yourself to the church without a car." Chuckled Lukas, opening the car door for me.

I giggled, waiting for us to drive off.

~time skip~

We arrived at the church,  the brick building making me feel empty inside.

"Should I walk you out?" Asked Lukas.

"........no." I mumbled, unfastening my seat belt. "......you wouldn't want to meet my parents, anyway."

"Really?" Asked Lukas. "Forgive me if I'm asking too many questions, but you never talk about your parents."

I stared into my lap, wanting to disappear.

"I mean..... why a church?" He continued. "Of all the places to meet you, they choose a church."

I sighed, getting out of his car.

"If you want, you can come meet them." I mumbled, feeling tears gather in my eyes.

".....okay.." said Lukas, getting out of the car and following me.

~slight time skip~

I walked up the hill, the snow crunching beneath my feet.

"Jess?" Asked Lukas.

I stayed silent.

I brought him around the back of the church, where a huge field of gravestones were lined up row by row.

I walked through the maze of them, occasionally looking back to see if Lukas was still there.

I finally stopped, looking down at two symmetrical graves.

Lukas' gaze traveled between me and the graves, and he finally made the connection.

I often come here after  important events.... but I wouldn't even have to if it weren't for Ivor and his witherstorm.

"Mom...... dad..." I started, choking back tears. "Meet Lukas. My....... my boyfriend."

Lukas stared at the ground, and then forced a smile.

"You have a lovely daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Parker." He sighed.
