"It'll Be OK"

Plot Requested by @Ren_Is_My_Bae

It was storming wildly, violent gusts of wind tugging at Jesse's loose hair. Her armour as well as the clothes underneath were soaked with water, drenching her in bitter cold.

But Jesse didn't care. She was grinning broadly, excitement and adrenaline overcoming the cold. Fending off the groaning zombies, sending her sword through them one by one.

Jesse turned her head, exchanging glances with Petra. The warrior was also soaking wet, her red hair sticking to her forehead. She grinned at Jesse, turning her attention back to the many mobs surrounding them.

Turning her gaze away as well, Jesse launched herself at the coming mobs. She's never experienced as many mobs all at once, the fight almost hard.

But she loved it.

"Take that!" Jesse bellowed, somersaulting underneath an approaching arrow, her left leg delivering a swift kick to the skeleton's legs.

Before the un-dead creature even had a moment to think about getting up, Jesse's sword was wedged into the side of his skull, killing him instantly.

Jesse ripped her sword out of the skeleton's head, holding it up into the air in victory. The rest of the mobs were still a few yards away, giving her a moment to gloat.

"Jesse!" Petra called out suddenly.

Jesse glanced over to see Petra waving at her frantically. The redhead's eyes were wide, her expression best described as "horrified". Jesse held up her hands in confusion, showing Petra that she didn't understand what the problem was.

"Behind you!" Petra called frantically, waving her hands desperately. "Creeper! Charged!"

Jesse turned around on the spot, only getting a glimpse of glinting green. Then just darkness, with the faint echo of an explosion.

-------------------------

Petra couldn't do anything, but watch. She was too far away to get to Jesse in time.

The charged creeper blew up just as Jesse turned around. Petra screamed in horror, seeing Jesse get hurtled backwards by the massive explosion, her limp body rolling a good few metres before stopping.

One of the zombies standing near immediately started advancing towards the unconscious, defenseless, girl on the ground, grunting and moaning.

Striking and killing the mobs in her way, Petra started running towards them as fast as her legs could carry her.

"Get off her!" She screamed, kicking the zombie that was clawing at Jesse, away. She brought her sword down on it's back, it dying with a pained groan.

Petra stepped protectively over Jesse's limp form, ready to protect her from any mobs. She could just about making out the faint rise and fall of Jesse's chest, it being the only sign that she was alive.

Petra glanced back up anxiously, noticing hundreds of mobs, advancing towards them. She could hold her own against them, but could she protect Jesse as well?

"Screw this." Petra muttered, slipping her golden blade into her belt, and bending down to Jesse, lifting her friend off the ground.

Jesse wasn't heavy, and Petra was able to carry her with ease. Holding Jesse tightly to her chest, Petra started running. Rain pelted down on her like tiny bullets, the cold wind tugging at her red hair.

Petra silently cursed under her breath, wishing they didn't stray so far from the cave they were taking shelter in. Finally she was able to spot the dark hole that was the cave entrance.

Checking over her shoulder on last time to make sure they weren't being followed, Petra ducked inside the cave. Still holding Jesse, she quickly covered up the entrance.

Petra felt her breathing start to steady, her heartbeat returning to normal. But she was still afraid for Jesse.

Carefully, Petra lay Jesse down on the stone flooring, pulling the wet armour off her friend so she was only left with the clothes she was wearing underneath.

Not having flint and steel on her, Petra used two rocks together, relighting their little camp-fire. Her tense muscles relaxed as the small flicker of flames emitted some heat and light.

Only, as the cave slowly lit up, Petra noticed her own clothes. On her chest, right where Jesse's head had been resting, was a large stain of blood. Petra immediately panicked, rushing back to Jesse's side.

Parting Jesse's hair, Petra soon found a deep wound, most likely created by the sharp rocks where Jesse had landed.

"Lord, no..." Petra breathed, ripping her soaked bandanna off her head, and pressing it against the wound. It was the only material she had with her, and she needed to stop the bleeding.

"Please, Jesse, just hold on..." Petra breathed, blinking hard as tears threatened to break through.

She wasn't one for crying, for showing weakness at all.

But she knew, if anything happened to Jesse – it'd be on her. She was the one who convinced Jesse to leave Beacontown to adventure, she should've looked out for her.

Jesse didn't wake up. Minutes ticked by into hours, the night drifting on.

Petra didn't sleep. She stayed by her unconscious friend every second, silently wishing Jesse would wake up. But she didn't.

Petra leaned back against the cave wall, resting Jesse's upper body on her lap. Petra looked down at Jesse's limp form, blinking hard to fight back a new set of tears.

"Please, just give me a sign that everything will be OK... Just give me a sign that you'll wake up."

Petra wasn't sure for how long she sat like that, just watching over Jesse. At some point she had to have dozed off, because she woke up stiff and sore from the position she was in.

Petra rubbed her tired eyes, trying to wake her mind back up, when she felt what had woken her up in the first place.

Movement.

Jesse's eyes were still closed, but she was moving her head slightly, her breathing pattern changing.

"Jesse?" Petra asked anxiously, adjusting the girl in her lap so she was as comfortable as one could be on a cave floor.

To her absolute relief, Jesse's eyes opened. Only for a second, before they were closed again. Jesse groaned slightly, reaching up with one hand to touch her her head.

"What happened?" She asked groggily, winching as she spoke.

"A creeper blew up behind you." Petra explained, her voice wavering slightly in attempt to stop tears of relief spilling. "You've been unconscious for little over three hours now."

Jesse didn't reply, she just let out another soft, pained groan.

"Jesse?" Petra asked, her voice concerned.

"Who?" Jesse mumbled, not opening her eyes.

Petra felt her heart sinking into the pit of her stomach.

"Jesse? She repeated, a slight hint of panic now in her voice. "I'm talking to you."

------------------------

"I'm talking to you."

Jesse slowly opened her eyes, looking up at the redhead. Jesse? Was that... her? Why... why can't she remember ever being addressed that way before?

She slowly glanced around the dark cave, trying to recognize her surroundings. But she had no idea where she was or how she got there.

"Jesse!"

Jesse jolted slightly back to reality as she felt herself being shaking desperately, but still gently. She looked up into the other person's concerned blue eyes.

"How did I get here?" She asked softly, her stomach tightening in a knot of panic, fear of not knowing.

"I carried you here." The redhead replied, looking like she wasn't expecting Jesse to ask that. "You were really hurt..."

"Who are you?" Jesse cut her off, slowly raising herself off the person's lap. Moving increased the pain in her head, but she tried to ignore it, or not show it at the least.

The redhead opened her mouth, but no words came out. Jesse looked around the cave again, desperate for a familiar sight. But she was lost, she had no idea where she was, how she got there... or who she was.

"Jesse, it's me.." The redhead said softly. "Petra.. You know? Your best friend?"

"I don't know you." Jesse replied, her voice defensive. "I've never seen you before..."

She back up away from Petra, till her back met the stone wall. Petra didn't approach her, but her expression was devastated. Looking into Jesse's frightened eyes, her own welled up in tears.

Despite being afraid, confused and in pain, a part of Jesse wanted to reach out to this person. Seeing a single tear trickle down her cheek, covering up previous tear stains, Jesse realised whoever this was, she wasn't having an easy day either.

"I'm sorry..." Jesse said softly, still feeling to afraid to move any closer. "I... please don't cry."

"I can't believe this." Petra whispered, leaning her head into her hands, her voice broken. "You have amnesia..." It didn't sound like she was even talking to Jesse any more, instead she was almost just saying these things to herself. "This is all my fault..."

Amnesia? Really?

Jesse wanted to prove this person wrong, she wanted to tell Petra that she was OK... but alas she had no idea what was going on around her. She couldn't remember a thing, it was like her life only just begun... Did she really loose her memory? Was her name really Jesse? Was this Petra really her best friend?

"I... I..." Jesse started, feeling overwhelmed and afraid. It almost felt like the cave walls wanted to close in on her. Had she always been claustrophobic?

"I need to go." Jesse said, spotting the roughly patched up entrance of the cave.

"Jesse, wait!" Petra gasped, as Jesse got up, pushing the wooden planks away.

Outside the air was crisp, the sun seeming to have only just risen. Jesse shield her eyes, her head throbbing violently when the light shown into her eyes.

"Jesse-!"

Hearing Petra's voice behind her, Jesse just broke into a run. She needed to get away, she needed to clear her head. The desperate calls of redhead made her heart ache, but she didn't turn back. She ran a few metres into the trees, finally stopping to lean heavily against one.

Her head was spinning and she felt dizzy, pain pulsing through her body. Now that she was out in the crisp air, she realised how cold she was, her clothes damp as the forest she was standing in.

Shivering, Jesse sunk to her knees on the ground, tears starting to run down her face. She was so scared and confused, it felt like she was trapped in some hazy dream. Oh, how desperately she wished she could wake up from this nightmare...

"Jesse?"

Jesse looked up, seeing Petra standing in front of her, looking like she was hesitant to come forward. In the sunlight, Jesse was able to make out her so-called friend's appearance better.

Petra was much taller than she was, her shoulder length hair a bright red. She had sky blue eyes, shimmering with tears. Jesse knew that she's seen that face before... she did know Petra, she just didn't know from where.

Jesse could also now see that Petra's clothes were wet, like hers. Frighteningly, there was a large stain of blood on Petra's T-shirt, darkening the light blue fabric.

"Please don't run off..." Petra said softly, slowly walking closer to Jesse and kneeling down beside her. She timidly rested a hand on Jesse's hand. "It's not safe out here, we're really far from civilization." Jesse just nodded.

"Are you hurt?" She asked softly.

"Me?" Petra asked, looking confused. Jesse silently nodding, gesturing towards Petra's shirt.

"Oh.." Petra said, looking down at her chest. "Don't freak out, but... this is your blood."

"It is?" Jesse asked softly, remembering that Petra mentioned carrying her. Petra only nodded.

They were quiet for a while, neither of them saying anything. Petra kept her one hand on top of Jesse's in a protective matter. Jesse could see that Petra wasn't lying about that bit, she obviously cared a lot.

"We're friends you say?" Jesse asked softly, her mind filled with questions.

"We are." Petra confirmed, a sad smile appearing on her face. "You're my best friend...." She trailed off slightly, looking like she got lost in her own thoughts. Absent-mindedly, she went on.

"You've been there for me a lot, Jesse." She said softly. "More than anybody..."

Jesse looked down, feeling a bit uncomfortable. The way Petra talked about her... it was like she was dead. But Jesse didn't want to upset her more.

"I have?" She asked softly.

Petra nodded, blinking rapidly a few times. She looked up at Jesse with a sad expression.

"I know you can't remember anything, but... you're a great person Jesse. Always thinking of other's before yourself..."

Jesse tilted her head to the side, listening with interest. A part of her started calming down, listening as Petra told her about herself. She was a person... with a life...

"Tell me more." Jesse said, putting her one hand on Petra's arm. She wanted so desperately to know more about who she was.

Petra looked a little surprised, but then she smiled. A part of her seemed happy that Jesse no longer desperately wants to pull away from her.

"I'm not a person for staying put." Petra explained, looking down as she fiddled with the grass blades she was kneeling on. "I wanted to travel, you know? But I also used to have this fear of being alone. I tend to hold onto my friends too tightly."

She looked over at Jesse her eyes clouded with memories, memories Jesse wished she so desperately had herself.

"You came with me. Despite having had your own life that you were happy with.. you chose to leave that for me." Petra looked back down at the ground.

"That must mean you are a great friend too." Jesse said softly. "If I were willing to give up what I had, just to be there for you... I have a feeling I wouldn't just do that for anybody."

Petra smiled, although Jesse's words just made her seem more heartbroken. This frightened Jesse in a way.

"Petra?" She asked, making the redhead look up at her. "Am I going to be OK?"

"Of course." Petra said quickly, grasping both Jesse's hands in hers. "We're going to fix you, you hear me? I won't stop until you're back to the Jesse you once were."

Jesse nodded silently, allowing Petra to pull her into a hug. She hesitated, before cautiously putting her arms around Petra in return. She really hoped her friend was right.

She couldn't imagine living on with all these questions.

---------------------

"You still doing OK?" Petra asked for the millionth time, looking back at Jesse that was lagging a few feet behind her.

Jesse looked up, nodding at Petra.

"Okay well, let me know if you need a break." Petra said, turning around so she was facing forwards again.

Jesse returned to looking down at the dirt path they were walking along. They've been on the road for most of the day now.

After her accident two days ago that left her without any memories of her past, Petra had decided they needed to return to their old home. She said she knew some people who might be able to help. So after giving Jesse two days to recover slightly from her injury, Petra had packed up their things and they hit the road.

"Who exactly are we going to?" Jesse asked after a few minutes of uncomfortable silence.

"An old friend of ours." Petra said. "I think he might know how to help us."

"Is he much further?" Jesse asked, looking around and admiring the large fields, filled with spring flowers.

Despite not remembering herself or her friends, she found herself recognising the scent of each flower. It made her smile.

"Not much further." Petra replied. "He lives near here, if I'm correct."

Jesse nodded, continuing to admire the beautiful surroundings. She loved the feeling of the sun on her arms, the smell of flowers in the air. She wondered if she used to spend a lot of time outdoors?

"Jesse."

Hearing her name brought Jesse back to reality. She noticed Petra had stopped, her gaze settled on something in the distance.

Jesse followed Petra's gaze till she saw what the redhead did. A cottage was nestled in between the dark oak trees, a dark horse grazing in front of it. Jesse wondered if it was the the house of the person their visiting, but Petra's next words confirmed her suspicion.

"I don't know how to break this to him." Petra said softly, taking off her blue bandanna so she could rake her fingers through her hair.

Jesse didn't say anything, she just walked up until she was standing beside Petra.

"Maybe you should wait outside." Petra said softly. "Is that OK?"

Jesse silently nodded. Taking a deep breath, Petra pulled her bandanna back over her head and slowly started walking towards the house. Jesse watched from a distance as the redhead knocked on the door.

The door opened, but Jesse was unable to see who opened it. Petra disappeared into the cabin.

Jesse slowly walked closer to the cabin, feeling uncertain. Seeing her, the horse came striding up to Jesse.

"Hey." Jesse said softly, reaching out and gently touching the horse's muzzle. Seemingly sensing her uncertainty, the horse pressed her head against Jesse gently, before returning to graze.

For a few seconds Jesse continued to watch the mare graze, delicately nibbling the long, lush grass.

Jesse could hear voices talking inside the cabin. Petra's voice stood out the most, but she could also make out a male voice.

Curiosity lead Jesse closer to the cabin, hesitantly stopping outside the open door. Inside she could see Petra, desperately talking to someone, her eyes filled with tears. Listening to her with an expression of both concern and understanding, was a guy with blonde hair. He had slightly darker blue eyes than Petra, and wore a black leather jacket over what appeared to be a yellow T-shirt.

Once again, Jesse got that lingering feeling that she's seen – no, known, this guy before.

"I refuse to believe that this is permanent, but I also don't know what could possibly jog her memory." Petra was desperately explaining to the guy. "I was thinking maybe seeing Beacontown, or even the old tree-house... or maybe even seeing Axel and Olivia again? Something that used to be close to her?"

He looked like he was about to reply, when they noticed Jesse standing the doorway, nervously fiddling with a string of her hair. They exchanged glances.

"Um..." Petra started, looking a bit awkward as she rubbed the back of her head. "Jesse, this is Lukas..."

Jesse slowly lifted her hand, giving Lukas a cautious wave. Seeming to sense that she was nervous, he gave her a warm, understanding smile in return.

"Come in." He said, beckoning.

Jesse slowly walked towards him and Petra, instinctively closing the door behind her first. She stopped beside Petra, taking a moment to try and recognise Lukas. His face was familiar, but that was all.

"I know you can't remember me." Lukas said gently, looking her in the eyes. "But it's really good to see you again, Jesse."

"Were we friends?" Jesse asked almost shyly.

Petra looked down at the floor, seeming upset to be reminded just how little Jesse knew.

"Yeah, we were." Lukas replied, managing a small smile. "You changed my life a lot in the years we knew each other."

Jesse awkwardly followed Petra's example, looking down at the wooden floor, not knowing what to say in reply.

"Jesse, do you mind giving me and Lukas a second?" Petra asked softly, not unkindly. Jesse nodded, stepping away to look out of the window instead.

The sun was setting, the fields slowly beginning to bath in darkness. Jesse admired how beautiful the sunset was, almost feeling sad as she watched the last few rays disappear.

"Ivor." She heard Lukas say to Petra. Jesse cautiously glanced over her shoulder, listening in on the conversation.

"I think Ivor might have a potion that could restore Jesse's memories." Lukas was saying.

"You really think so?" Petra asked hopefully.

"He's told me about something like that before." Lukas explained. "That's our best bet."

"Thank goodness." Petra breathed. Jesse watched as Lukas gave the redhead a comforting hug.

"We'll head out first thing tomorrow." Lukas said, when he finally let her go. "I know you want to help Jesse as soon as possible, but it's best we wait until tomorrow."

Petra looked reluctant, but she nodded nonetheless.

"Listen, why don't you get some sleep?" Lukas suggested. "Those dark circles under your eyes suggest that you've barely slept a wink since the accident."

"Can you blame me?" Petra muttered, crossing her arms and looking back down at the floor.

"Go." Lukas prompted. "Guest bedroom's all yours. I think you already know where it is?"

"What about Jesse?" Petra asked softly.

"She can have my room for the night." Lukas said. "After the amount of times I fell asleep in the living room while writing, I've learned to get used to the couch."

Petra gave a dry chuckle. "Thanks Lukas." She said softly.

"Anything for you two." He replied. "Why don't you go rest now?"

Petra gave in, nodding and slowly leaving the room. Jesse uncertainly still waited at the window, glancing over at Lukas. She felt a little nervous now that Petra, the only person she'd really gotten to know, wasn't around. But in a way, still having Lukas there made her relax again.

"You tired?" He asked, walking over to her. Jesse only shook her head.

Lukas nodded, giving her a hesitant smile, obviously not certain what to say either. Jesse noticed the same saddened look on his face she had seen on Petra. She hated knowing it was because of her.

Jesse turned back around, looking out at the now-dark landscape.

"Is something wrong?" Lukas asked gently.

"Do you really think my memories will be restored?" Jesse asked softly. "Not knowing... this is killing me."

Lukas's expression grew sympathetic. "Don't worry." He said, putting a hand on her shoulder. "I'm certain things will be OK."

Jesse nodded, biting her lip. She only just met Lukas, but deep down she knew that they were close.

"I'm scared." She admitted softly. "You have no idea what this is like... everything is new to me."

"Hey, now." Lukas said, pulling her closer to him and wrapping his arms around her. "It'll be OK, I promise."

"It's hard to be optimistic." Jesse replied bluntly, reaching up to wipe her eyes.

She noticed Lukas' face fall slightly at her words. "You know, Jesse... out of all of us, you're always the one with hope."

"What do you mean?" Jesse asked softly.

"I'll show you." Lukas said. "Come sit down."

Jesse cautiously sat down on one of the large leather couches, watching as Lukas took something out of a desk drawer. He walked back towards her, sitting down with the piece of paper in his hand. He gently placed it in hers.

Jesse looked down at it. It was a newspaper clipping, showing a faded black and white image. She immediately recognised both Lukas and Petra in the image, standing on either of... was that her? Beside them were also two other people who looked familiar, but she didn't recognise.

Jesse slightly lifted her gaze, her eyes noticing the large heading.

"Wither Slayer and Friends Crowned the New Order of the Stone."

"I don't get it." Jesse said looking back up at Lukas.

"The Wither Slayer was you." Lukas explained. "You destroyed a Wither Storm."

Jesse tilted her head to the side slightly, frowning.

"I know you don't know what a wither is right now." Lukas explained. "But you destroyed it Jesse. You saved the world."

"I did?" Jesse asked, looking down at the newspaper clipping again. She felt overwhelmed to say the least.

"It might not feel that way now." Lukas said gently. "You're lost and confused, I understand. But underneath, you're a hero."

Jesse didn't say anything. Her eyes closed slightly, tears brimming the corners.

"I want to know so bad." she said, trying her hardest to hold back a sob.

"You will." Lukas said, wrapping one arm around her. "But for now, while you're still feeling lost and afraid... just know that you're strong, you're brave. You changed the lives of everybody."

Jesse leaned her head against Lukas, allowing him to bury her in a firm, but gentle hug.

"I'll try." She said softly.

"If you stay strong, this will all be over soon." Lukas reassured her, hugging her tightly. "I promise."

Jesse nodded, closing her eyes and resting her head against Lukas. His left hand was gently rubbing her back in a comforting matter, his right hand's fingers intertwining with her own. Jesse gave a contented sigh, feeling a lot less afraid than she had since she woke up two days ago. She felt safe in his arms.

"It'll be OK." He continued to whisper as he held her close.

"It'll be OK."

___

4063 words!
Eyyy, my second one shot to cross 4000 words!

I hope it's OK, I've been having no desire for writing one shots the past few days xD So hopefully it isn't too bad.

I feel like I might do I rewrite of this one day. I'm not 100% happy with how it came out, but I don't know what about it is actually bugging me, so eh. I like the whole plot idea however.

Also, I hope that little hint of LukasxJesse at the end was enough xD This is a ship I'm much more comfortable writing, than the ship requests I got in the past. So, yay for trying xD

Lastly, oml as I went back to your request just to check your name to put at the top of the one shot.. sfkjhgd you said meeting back up with Lukas and Radar.
-Faceplams-

Sorry, it seemed to have slipped my mind that Radar was meant to be apart of this xD Whoops.

Anyhow, enough rambling on my end, time to go!
If you haven't seen already, I've created a separate one shot book, where I'll be doing a one shot every day for the month of July. So, just a fair warning that this book might get a little quiet as July rolls around!
