Actual backstory(kinda long)

Disclaimer: This story that I am about to tell you is heavily based off of the world of the book "The Giver" if you don't know what this book is that's fine but just know there are a lot of similarities of this world and that world, tho it's mainly just the traditions. Also! Note that this story is like 100% Mary Sue territory so, you have been warned!

I remember it all. I remember my whole life. I always have. Not many can recall distance memories such as these. Tho I'm not normal. I'm different. Which isn't a good thing.

The town I lived in was very, interesting. We had certain traditions, different from those of now. I guess I should start from the beginning.

It was the day that all the new kids would be turning one and be given to their "parents". The date was December 15, I was about 7 months at the time. Standing on the stage my curious eyes wondered over the crowd, searching for what might be my "family". I remember being walked to the center of the stage by the Admin's assistant, thy called out "Gracelyn, daughter of *error*!" I watched as a could walked up to the stage, I was handed to them. These were my "parents".

The day I was given freedom was a different story, I was 10 at the time and had visiting hours to help out with any task that I wanted. I would normally do a little of everything, I just wanted a bit of variation.

This day was the scariest of all, the day I turned 18. I sat with all the other kids that were born in the same year as me. We were seated by last name alphabetical order. I was seated next to my friend James. I glanced around the room looking from my other friends, Xara was sitting closer to the front in the C section, I was currently seated in the I section. I looked behind me to see my other friend, Romeo, seated a few rows behind me in the M section. He waved to me and gave me a nervous smile, I had returned this smile and tuned back around in my seat.

Soon the Admin walked out into the stage, they wore a brilliant white cloak along with the usual everyday attire, at the moment we were all out of attire, at the moment we all wore white, dresses for the girls, button up shirts for the boys. I stared at the Admin in awe, this was the first time we had all seen the Admin. We worshipped the Admin every morning when we woke up and ever night before bed. We had to show are respect, after all the Admin gave us life and intelligence.

They stared the opening ceremony and called up the first child. I was nervous, lost in my own thoughts, before I knew it my friend James, who was sitting to my left, stood up and started walking to the stage. I watched intently as the Admin spoke the same words to him as all the others and soon gave him his forever task. He got the task of a RedStone Engineer and was handed a red button that he pinned to his shirt, the Admin closed off James' ceremony and then called out "Gracelyn Iris!"

I felt uneasy and stood up, my lefts were shaky and my feet felt heavy as I walked to the stage. Standing before the Admin I felt their powerful presence around the air they stood. They started my ceremony. "Gracelyn Iris, what do you wish for your task to be?"
I froze, I knew what I wanted but I had practiced saying it so much that I completely forgot, I stood there nervously, "I-I uhhh w-well you see....I-I know what I w-want it's just t-th-" "You forgot?" I looked up at the Admin, ashamed of myself, "Yes, I apolig-" they raised their hand, causing me to stop talking, they silenced me, not physically, it was just a commanded that we had learned in school.

"Do not worry, you do not have to know what you wish to be for so little of you actually know, you were a very tricky one, always willing to try something new which made it difficult for the Guild to choose, so they left the choice, to me" I nodded my head lightly in a respecting manner, "Gracelyn, I have chosen you to be a Time Keeper" I felt my face turn pale, glance at the crowd, they all had the same expressions, a mix of fear and worry. My eyes meet the Admin's and I felt my blood run cold, they gave me a calm smile, trying to get me to relax. They turned to the case, pulling out what looked like an amulet, no wait, a locket. I stared at it in amazement as it gleamed lightly in the light, they carefully placed it around my neck and it hung lightly. We both turned towards the crowed and I felt them place their hands on my shoulders, it felt weird, almost like-it's hard to describe. "Gracelyn Iris, Time Keeper!" The crowed applauded as equally to all the others, the Admin handed me a folder and I walked back to my seat and sat down, fiddling with the locket I was given.

I was so mesmerized that I was snapped out of my thoughts when I heard Romeo's name being called, I turned my head to the side and watch him proudly, yet nervously walk down the aisles to the stage. Moments past slowly but it was still very quick, next thing I knew he was walking down the aisles back to his seat, where a new medal that was pinned to his shirt, he was Assistant Admin. I saw his "parents" over by mine almost practically freaking out over their "sons" accomplishment in a very high rank.

To put it on a scale, from highest to lowest: The Admin, Admin's Assistant, Elders, Assistant Admin, Assistant Admin's Assistant, Time Keep, etc etc. I had gotten a fairly higher rank then most, reason being is that normally the "older" ones got higher ranks then the others.

Most of everything after that was just training and preparation, tho two years after that was when the 20's got their spouse. I sat nervously in my knee high white summer dress that all girls were issued to wear on this day, as well as the white flower crowns. The males sat on the right of the auditorium, wearing the white button up shirts with a single white flower pinned to their shirt. People couldn't chose who they were courted with, the Guild watched who you interacted with the best and made them a possible match. Frankly I knew almost anyone and everyone, so I was fine with whoever I got. They called up the boys first then called the girl who was to be courted to this boy. I sat impatiently, fiddling with the top lace trim of my dress, I looked up when I heard my friend Xara name being called, she was being courted to someone I didn't recognize but she must have knew him cause she seems existed about it. Again I waited, snapping my head up when I heard my name called, I hadn't heard the name of the male but when I looked up, I knew exactly who it was. "Romeo" I whispered lightly, he just stared at me, standing on the stage he seemed tense.

I slowly stood and made my way to the stage, he extended his hand to me like all the others and I slowly took it. I could tell he was nervous, I could feel his tense he was, I light squeezed his hand in a reassuring way and he glanced at me. We did as instructed and turned to face each other, I hadn't noticed this be he had change a bit, the tips of his black raven hair had started to fade into a vibrant red and his left eye was red and yellow busted if the original glossed over sky blue liked his right. I stared it his eyes and he stared back, I could almost see my reflection in his eyes.

We repeated the same vowels everyone has to say to one another and Romeo's assistant brought out a small case and handed it to the Admin's assistant, I wasn't expecting this, everyone got the same ring but then again, Romeo had the power to be the next Admin if need be necessary. I glanced over at my "parents" and my "father" nodded his head, I felt the cold band of the ring slide onto my finger, I looked back at Romeo and he looked down at me, he smiled shyly, I couldn't return the smile, this felt wrong yet, no choice or decision was ever wrong.

We both walked off the stage, holding hands as you had too, and took out seats in the middle of the auditorium. On my way there a few girls gave me blank looks, probably wanting to be courted to Romeo only because of his rank and future power, I just looked at my feet as I sat there, getting a glance if the ring that fit my finger perfectly. I felt someone grab my right hand, looking to my right I saw Romeo, he looked worried, whispering lightly so he wouldn't interrupt the others, "Hey, are you ok?" I stared at him for a bit before nodding my head lightly, "Y"yeah"

I sat there the rest of the time, Romeo holding my hand the whole time, probably feeling nervous. After the ceremony my "parents" found me in the crowed and congratulated the two of us, but then again you have to do that anyways.

Tho, I remember the one day that everything change, it's so clear that it will forever burn in the back of my mind, he will forever burn in the back of my mind.

I was outside, the wind blowing my hair lightly, I heard the fallen leaves of fall crunsh below someone's feet, Romeo. We had both changed, his hair was almost that completely vibrant shade of red and his eyes were both red and yellow, I knew soon he would take control, even if it was by force.

"Hello Romeo" I said blankly. It was quiet for a bit before he spoke in his accented voice "Hello Gracelyn" I chuckled a bit, the whit cloak flapping lightly in the wind, "Don't call me that". I heard him sift slightly, "Gracelyn, you know what I want" "Don't call me that" "Yet you won't give me what I want, Gracie, why is that?" I knew he was smirking, he wanted a reason to fight me and wanted me to take action first. "It takes a lot to make me hit first, if you trying to get me to fight you, it won't happen".

I heard the sound of a sword being drawn, I turned, lifting my hand up, my cloak flipping slightly, a time rift blasted in front of me, pausing the sword right in front of my face, "It takes more then a sword to kill me".

I remember so much yet, I can't even explain it. The easiest thing I could say is:

What do you think happens when two mortals with god like powers fight to well, the death?

I'll tell you what happens.

Destruction, lots and lots of destruction.

So many innocent people died by our hands that when I had stopped to think about it, Romeo did the most selfish thing he could ever do.

I felt weak, my eyes going blurry as I fell onto my knees, almost gasping for air. I turned to look at him, my vision still fuzzy making it hard to define currant elements. He walked up to me, a sadistic smirk on his face, "You won't be needing this anymore love" grabbing onto my locket he snapped it off my neck, I winced, "No". Rolling his eyes he snickered, "Like you can do anything to stop me" he turned, starting to walk away.

I grabbed the end of his cape with as much strength as I could trying to hold him back, he looked down at me his eyes glowing with curiosity, "Your still trying? If I were you I would have just given up already" I tried to steady my breath as best as possible, "I will never give in.....I will stop you" he smirk, "And if you don't?" I stayed quiet, then spoke, "Xara will take care of you"

I heard his sadistic laugh sound through my ears, "She can't do anything now! She's just as useless as you, hmmm I wonder, no, your too good for that place. Oh well, have a nice life love" he tugged his cape from my hands and turned away, taking a few steps before vanishing.

I later there on the ground thoughts racing through my mind, I wasn't a Time Keeper.

"I'm mortal now"
