Part 4 (Lukas, Jesse, and Petra)
Lukas
Lukas seethed, "What did that THING do to Radar?" His bow was drawn, and now he just waited for his cue to shoot. "I'm not sure." Jess said glancing at the pathetically torn Radar, knelt on the ground, crying from his lime-green infected eyes, "But from the sounds of what he's saying, that slime from the spider is probably making him live his worst nightmare." He called so everyone could hear.
"That would make sense." Jesse called back, "So whatever you do, don't let its goop touch you!"
"Let's take this thing down before it can get another one of us. Who knows how long it will last?" Petra yelled. "NOW!"
Lukas released his arrow, hitting the beast square in the metallic forehead, Jesse chucked an ax, chopping off one of its robotic legs from the root, and Petra and Jess climbed up it's legs, then stabbed two different spots on the spider's back. It screeched an awful sound, causing the four of them to wince before roaring angrily, and trying to buck Jess and Petra off of it. "Keep fighting! Get more weapons, whatever it takes!"
Lukas pulled back his bow, and this time aimed for the tarantula-like giant's mouth. If the cyborg upper head didn't work, maybe he could tear through the flesh of its jaw. As he released, the spider spat the acidic substance. It caused the arrow to drop to the floor instantly, and continued towards Lukas, hitting him square in the face.
He shrieked. Pain soaked into his eyeballs. It felt like the time he accidentally got lemon juice in his eyes, but worse. He suddenly felt overwhelmed and dropped to his knees. Then he could see again.
What was I doing again? I feel like I'm supposed to be doing something, but I just can't seem to remember.. He looked around. He was in a hospital room. But he wasn't the one in the hospital bed.
Jesse lay, panting. Wiping her forehead. She just gave birth. He thought. The doctor and nurse standing on the other end whispered to each other before the nurse approached Lukas. She pulled him into the hallway, "I'm sorry. Your baby was stillborn." She said, but she lacked any emotion. Her voice sounded familiar, very robot-like. "What?" Lukas gaped, "No. Our baby was healthy, how could it die?" He forced the door back open and raced in disbelievingly. He ran to the doctor and stared at his newborn baby.
It's chest didn't move. It was tiny. It couldn't be any more than three pounds. It looked so fragile. Lukas ran his hands though his hair, "No, this isn't happening, our baby!"
Jesse
"It got Lukas!" Jess turned to Jesse. She gasped and jerked her head in her husband's direction. He, like Radar, was on his knees, but wasn't yet melting down. He just had a blank, creepy expression. She was panting as she turned back to the spider. We can't let it get all of us. But I'm at a major disadvantage. She put her left hand over her stomach protectively. I can't move the same, and I don't want to risk any damage happening to our baby. So what should I use?
Petra
Petra repeatedly drew Miss Butter from its spine, then stabbed it back in. She was furious. Not only did it take Radar, but now Lukas. She glanced sympathetically at Jesse, who was clenching her stomach as though she might get sick, and stared in shock at Lukas. She looked lost.
Petra was about to ask her if she was alright, but the beast leapt into the air, and twisted so it would land on its wounded back, but at least get Petra and Jess off in the process. Jess boosted forward off the abdomen of the spider, and shoved Petra on his way out. Petra flung forward, but managed to twist herself enough to roll safely into her landing. She turned to see Jess wasn't as lucky. He winced, laying on the floor for a moment. He was right in front of the beast. Seeing an opportunity, the spider quickly flipped over. Petra raced forward. He saved me, now it's my turn. She stood over Jess protectively, "Jess, I know you can defeat this beast!" She glanced over her shoulder, smiling supportively at him. He gaped, "No, Petra. Don't!" The spider spat on her face. She screamed in pain, but continued, "Give it a nice finishing stab for me with Miss Butter." She dropped her sword, and fell forward to the ground. Her eyes stung like no other pain she'd ever felt.
What was she doing again? She opened her eyes. She lay in a bed. Jesse walked in. "Good morning Petra. Are you ready to get dressed?" She opened Petra's drawers and shuffled through her clothes.
"I can pick out my own clothes." Petra mumbled, and tried to sit up, but she could hardly move more than twitch her fingertips and inch her neck. "What's going on? Why can't I move?"
Jesse held an outfit in her hands and turned. What was with her face? She looked creepy, and empty inside. She spoke, "Silly goose. Did you forget about the accident?"
"What accident?" Her words slurred, she could hardly form the words in her mouth. Petra was unnerved and confused. This wasn't Jesse. She sounded like a bot, and stood with the face of those creepy dolls on movies. Jesse continued, "Remember? After the accident, Jess died, and you're paralyzed. You never got married. And you will never do so much as lift Miss Butter again."
Petra gaped, it couldn't be true! She strained to move, but pain seared through her with the unsuccessful effort. Jesse's words echoed repeatedly in her head, but in first person as tears dropped from her eyes. She couldn't even wipe them away.
I never married Jess.
I will never fight again.
I will never even have control of my own body again.
Jesse
She watched her brother and Petra fall to the ground after leaping off of the monster's back. Petra landed smoothly into a roll, while Jess wasn't so lucky. He flopped on the ground. The spider flipped over and prepared to spit. Jesse screamed, "Jess! Watch out!" She started running forward, but Petra beat her to him. She started saying things to Jess as she stood bravely over him. Jess gaped, his head started shaking in disbelief as he said something back. He scrambled to his feet and went to move her, but the spider got her. Jesse continued running. Petra screamed, "Give it a nice finishing stab for me with Miss Butter." She dropped her sword and went limp. Jess caught her, "No! Petra! Not you too!" He clung tightly to her, his chest against her back. He buried his face in her neck mumbling some more.
"Jess!" Jesse grabbed his hair and yanked his head back, "She's not gone! Now get up before it gets you too! We can beat this together!" The spider was salivating, but luckily it seemed to take some time to get a good enough amount. Jess nodded in understanding. He lay Petra on the ground, and took Miss Butter in his hand. The twins snuck behind the spider. "It doesn't seem to have a weak spot." Jesse stated, "We've tried everything." She whispered, "Any ideas?"
Jess tapped his chin, "The only place that didn't land a hit so far was Lukas' arrow in the jaw. It's a risky spot, but it may be it's weak point."
"It's worth a shot." Jesse drew her sword and some ender pearls. At least she could use these instead of run a ton. "I'll distract it. Keep your promise to Petra and finish that sucker off with Miss Butter."
Jess nodded. The spider finally turned to face them. "Three." They said in unison, "Two." They offered each other supportive smiles, "One." They nodded together.
"GO!"
