Jack
The Warriors of the Whispering Mountain call him 'The Stab-Walker'. The Air Titans of the East call him 'He Who Slashes Like Thunder'. But you may call him... 'Jack'.
These are the 'few' names Jack likes to go by, and whether or not they're real, he still hides behind them. After the loss of his friends, I feel Jack began to fill his heart with the joys and stories of his past adventures.
Though, most often, when filling a void with meaningless moments can have its consequences. Jack's problems are caused by his insecurities.
Out of all people you'd think Jack would be the last to have insecurties, but you'd be wrong. Jack's a very authentic person when he's in his prime, but on a day to day basis he's just scared; scared of what God's doing in his life.
After losing his friends, who meant the world to him, he became depressed and scared. He was frightened by the world around him, frighten of adventure, frightened of... himself. What was he to do now that his friends are gone, the people who died because of their passion?
When his friends died, his love for adventure was shunned by fear and thoughts began to roll around in his head. "What if I die too?" Is what I believe he's questioned himself before going out to explore.
Since Jack has been known for years as many things to many people, feeling scared made him uncomfortable. Out of every name he told Jesse, the only thing I could hear was, "I'm Jack... the fearless." I mean, think about it. The Stab-Walker, He who slashes like thunder, those aren't typically names for someone who's scared all the time... and Jack knows this.
Now that he's a scared man, he keeps feeling like he has to remind himself and the people around him he's Jack, the Greatest Adventurer Ever. Though with all these fears and insecurities jumbling around, mixing with his legacy, it's caused issues.
We all know what happens to people when they're insecure right? They become awkward! Jack has several moments throughout the game where he portrays this, causing the other characters to give him a look. What he said wouldn't be awkward unless he didn't actually mean it. Even though you can't hear it, you can feel the sense of his desperation around him, thus proving he's just insecure and afraid. Afraid of taking risks and adventuring, but trying so hard to relive his glory days.
I'd like to take aminute to review his relationships with Jesse and Petra, please. With Jack trying to be the fearless adventure he once was, being surrounded by blind fans like Petra makes him feel better. With Petra to focus on what he has done, she can't see the fear inside Jack and judge him for it. Plus, whever Jack is near Petra she can't help but fangirl and praise him, causing him to forget his issues in the moment.
Though with someone like Jesse (whether it's male or female) he's a bit more afraid but honest with them. Since Jesse is the main character (and also a celeb), they can tell what's going on with Jack. They see the fear in his eyes as he struggled through the Sea Temple and beating the Admin.
Jack knows that Jesse isn't to be underestimated and shouldn't attempt to lie to or else he ends up looking stupid. So, whenever Petra's not around, Jack's able to just be himself and tell Jesse the truth.
Though since Jack's been honest with Jesse, whenever Petra's around, he becomes stiff because he knows Jesse can't be fooled, but also doesn't want to Petra to see him as himself in fear of her seeing his true self. That's why half the game Jack comes off as a little odd and awkward, becuase he's trying too hard not to feel but doesn't want to seem like a heartless person.
Even though Jack had rough moments, he begins to heal towards the end of the game. After having someone like Jesse psuh him out of his comfort zone, and for a fan to see who he has become. He began to mold back into the adventurous caring man he once was and was loved for. Saving a town and going out again as a hero began to heal the wounds left by the death of his friends. Also Jack made knew friends who care for him and wouldn't let anything happen to him; Jack feeling the same towards them.
I like to believe that Jack feels a better connection towards Jesse in the end of the game because they were one who help him see it's ok to feel and be scared. That's why you don't see him going off on an adventure with Petra. Also, he knows that he only started to have a friendship with Petra because she was a fan who was feeding him the garbage he kept allowing himself to eat.
In the end, the old authentic Jack came back. The adventurous soul who was worthy and deserving of those *cough cough* cheesy names. Jack's always been a good man, he just forgot that about himself for a little. But now everything's back to normal, ready for the change and new challenges ahead.
The End
(A: N) *Sniff* I keep forgetting how sweet these Character Talks are... I need to do this more often. Hope you enjoyed. (Also this could have been longer... but I'm too busy with schoolwork and the CAASP testing coming up (I think that's how you spell it) )
Have a good day (also I hope these character talks are helping you at all, either with seeing these issues in mpoeple and resolving them, or just seeing as MCSM more than a game and as a good story.)
Bye!!!
