Slow Your Roll (Fem! Price and Fem! McKinley) pt 1

Heyo my dudes I got back from vacation so I can right a bunch now! I've just been reading fanfic the enter vacation and drawing crappy Book of Mormon and Dear Evan Hansen fanart that I should probably burn. I'm getting really into the ships Kleinsen and Sincerely Three so idk I might make a book of that. Who knows or cares?

So anyway this is a genderswap AU. I really really really really like genderswaps, so expect plenty of these in times to come. Anyway, this one is pretty basic. It's like the events of the musical genderbent. Thanks handy Book of Mormon script book! Also I don't know anything about the Mormon religion so I don't know if they have female missionaries. I changed Elder to Sister because that's what they did for females in Tomorrow is a Latter Day so I'm sorry if it's incorrect! It's for the AU so *shrugs*.

Anyways I'm really boring so ignore me and enjoy the story!

Kellen's POV

I sigh, savoring the moment. I was about to be given my mission companion and location. The place and person that would be with me during the most important time of my life.

I couldn't wait!

All I can do is send a quiet, quick prayer to Heavenly Father. Oh, Heavenly Father. Please send me to my favorite place in the world.

"Oh boy!" I say, unable to hold in my excitement any longer. The others look over at me, grinning as well. "Oh boy, this is it guys!"

"I can't believe the day is here!" Sister Young says giddily. "We get to go out and see the world!"

Sister Smith steps up to me, her face inches from mine. It's an odd position, but she seems to have no problem with it so I pretend I don't either. "Do you have any idea where they'll be sending you Sister Price?"

"Well of course we don't really have final say over where we get sent," I say, feeling my stomach twinge with dread as I address the group of excited new missionaries. "But I have been praying to be sent to my favorite place in the world."

Elder Grant pats me on the back. "Well, if you prayed for a location I'm sure Heavenly Father will make it happen! You're like the smartest, most deserving Sister the center has ever seen!"

"Aw come on you guys," I say looking down, my cheeks coated with the barest blush. They're confirming everything I've been told over the years... and yet, how come I don't even believe them?

I stand in a line as the sisters begin to be chosen. I watch as Sister Young and Sister Grant are paired together to go to Norway. Sister Grant and I were great friends, and I must admit I'm slightly disappointed she isn't my companion. But I know I'll have a great one nonetheless. One that will give me a chance to prove myself.

Sister White and Sister Smith high five as they're assigned France. Sister Cross and Sister Green are going to Japan. I'm happy for them of course... but I quickly murmur another prayer.

"Heavenly Father... please send me to Orlando." I smile softly, thinking of my favorite place in the world. Sea World... Disney... and putt putt golfing.

"Sister Price!"

"Yes sir!" I practically scream, sprinting forwards and straightening my skirt. This is it this is it this is it this is it

"Your sister will be... Sister Cunningham!"

A smaller girl with black curly hair and glasses sprints over to me excitedly, jumping up and down. "That's! That's me! Hello!" She gets up in my face and I stare back. This... this is my companion?

"Oh, hi..." I murmur.

"And your mission location is..." I grip my fists with nerves. "Uganda...!"

I think my world has stopped. A giant gong came and smacked me upside the head. I come spinning down from whatever Orlando high I was on, and now I'm in a Dumpster marked Uganda.

"...Uganda?" I manage to get out.

Sister Cunningham claps her hands. "Uganda? Cool! ...Where is that?"

"Africa!"

"Oh boy!" My mission companion says, eyes widening. "Like Lion King!"

Sister Cunningham moves around, talking with all the other pairs about our missions, but I can only stand still. Uganda. A country in Africa instead of my dream location. The place I've been dreaming of returning for years. Just like that, a switch was flipped and I was thrust into disappointment.

After the other sisters leave and it seems pretty clear that I'm shaken, my mission companion comes up to me. I look her up and down, trying to take in my new partner. She seems pretty average, nothing totally special. She doesn't seem to know how to tuck in a shirt properly or nicely tie a tie...

"I'm SO STOKED that we got paired together Sister Price!" Sister Cunningham says happily.

"Yeah," I say slowly. "So am I. This is... fantastic."

"You know what?" Sister Cunningham says, and I tiredly look over at her. "I prayed to Heavenly Father that we would get paired together. He really does listen!"

I look at her with a look of barely concealed shock. "Oh." I look away bitterly. "He answered YOUR prayer. Huh." Why her and not me, Heavenly Father? What has she done to deserve her prayers more than I do?

"Yup!" Sister Cunningham pipes, clearly oblivious to my thoughts. "My mom always said if Heavenly Father is proud of you he'll always give you what you ask!" My eyes widen and I grind my teeth. "YOU AND ME, FOR TWO YEARS IN UGAN-DAH!"She cheers giddily. "THIS IS GONNA BE AWESOME!"

"Yes," I say, forcing the word out sourly. "I'm sure the Book of Mormon will do those Africans a lot of good."

Sister Cunningham guffaws loudly in my face as I look at her, confused. "AHA HAH AHAHA." She stops for a moment, before quickly leaning down and squeezing my waist in a very aggressive form of a hug. I stare at her until she pulls away. "Well, see ya tomorrow companion!" She exclaims. "And like my mom always says: Tomorrow is a Latter Day!" She skips off happily and leaves me here, alone in the missionary training center.

I swallow bitterly. Right. No Orlando. I'm going to Uganda for two heres, forever accompanied by that dimwit of a companion. I'll have to adapt. Overcome. I'll have to be the best missionary the Church has ever seen. Then maybe... maybe Heavenly Father will prepare Planet Orlando.

~~~*Time skip brought by me not realizing that they said "laughrica" in I am Africa and then cry/laughing whenever I hear it*~~~
I clutch my suitcase in my hand tightly, squeezing the handle as my mother straightens my skirt and tie. My hair is perfect, and my shirt is tucked in. I'm as physically ready as I'll ever be.
"Goodbye, Kellen, we are so proud of you," my father says, smiling stiffly.
My sister steps up and gives me a frantic hug. "I can't believe Kellen is going to Africa for two years! I'm going to miss my sister so much!" I pat Jackie's head.
"You know, I'm going to miss you guys too! Maybe we should see if there's any way I can get assigned somewhere a little closer to home." I look down my shoes. "Like, um, Florida, or..."
Dad laughs. "Don't worry! Heavenly Father has a hand in everything." He points up to the sky, and I look up gingerly to be reminded of everything I've done to fail my prayers. "He knows what's best! He always knows."
I curl my lip slightly before smiling.
Arnell's POV
I stand with my family as my mom continuously wipes her nose with a handkerchief. I don't care about the melancholy that fills the room- I'm bouncing on my heels with anticipation.
"Alright," Dad says, putting his hand on my shoulder. "Remember, just do whatever Sister Price tells you. She's a great Mormon." He turns away and slightly lowers his voice. "The kind of kid any parent would be proud to have."
I smile. Sister Price really was an amazing Mormon, and I'm happy to have her as my companion. "Right!" I exclaim. "I'm a follower!"
"That's right," my dad says, nodding. "Maybe your new companion can help make you not so weird." I nod.
"Yeah, we're going to have the most amazing time together!" I stare off into space, lost in excitement. "It's like I'm finally gonna have a best friend..."
"And remember, Arnell, what we talked about in regards of your little problem."
"Don't worry Dad!" I say happily, tugging on my backpack straps. "My little problem is in check! Not gonna be an issue!"
Kellen's POV
My eyes widen and I walk over to Sister Cunningham's family. "Uh, what's the 'little problem'?" I knew there would be no more hitches.
"No!" Sister Cunningham's dad says frantically. "Uh, our little Arnold can sometimes be...well... he has a very active imagination."
"I lie a lot!" Sister Cunningham shouts, stepping up to my face. I stare at her. Of course she does.
"No!" Her dad says again, even more weary. "She-she just makes things up when she doesn't know what to say."
"Bishop Donahue says it's because I have no self-esteem and desperately want to fit in with my peers," Sister Cunningham says casually.
"Well, alright!" My dad says, coming over and patting my shoulder as I continue to stare at Sister Cunningham. "I think it's time we leave these two to their work! That's right, you girls have a lot of catching up to do now that you're companions! This is it Sisters, you're heading to Africa!" And with a wave, our families disappear to my dismay. And I'm stuck boarding the plane with a very excited companion who continuously turns and accidentally smacks me with his backpack.
 My mission companion is a compulsive liar. Of course she is. Uganda with a faulty companion. I can't wait.
1637 words! It wasn't going to be a multiple-parter until I got to the end and went huh. So yeah, second part tomorrow!
Request are bon!
